I agree and with some humour too haha, I was thinking of getting a Soundbar like a Sony or Yamaha thinking it will sound fantastic compared to my old work of receiver and save money and no. Hopefully some vids on brands. Great information on this site

Thanks you really make this stuff palatable for a noob like myself. A month ago I was shopping for a sound bar, then after seeing your first two videos on how to build a system under 999 then 1500 ... I decided to go that route. Now after seeing this video I understand why people go to that next step with multiple amps, a rack system away from the listening environment and all the other items, I didnt understand their advantages until this video. It didnt inspire me to expand my build or change a single thing, as I live in a small apt, BUt when I buy a house in a few years, I will then consider that expansion and move my current set up to my new living room but build a dedicated theater room in another part of the house. the system I am putting together has me pretty excited right down to the speaker wire and banana clips I am using, or the AVR cooling unit, etc.. I feel like for my space, budget and experience I am building my dream set up at this level, in part, thanks to you. Keep them coming I enjoy learning about this stuff. I spent just under 7k on this set up with a lot of savings, it easily could have been 9k had I not shopped the heck out of everything. This budget included a 77" Oled tv and Xbx Series X as well. I am building a 7.2.4 / 9.2.2 Denon x3700H/Klipsch reference + 4 r-41M surrounds,/ 2) SVS PB-1000 Pro subs, Nimbus Monoprice wire, Sewell Banana clips, AC Infinity cooler, etc...that I am 100% positive is going to be the best sounding HT we have ever heard or had.

It’s been a process to try and decide which topic to tackle next, so I’m very grateful for comments like yours that validate that I’m on the right track so far. 😀🙌 Just FYI, I wrote a disclaimer in the video description of my “$3,000 setup video”, but the X3700H can actually only handle 7 ear-level speaker assignments. So having a 9.2.2 isn’t possible. Whoops. I’m learning as I go, too. 😄 But it CAN handle 7.1.4, so you’re good there. Denon just wants you to pay more $$ for a more expensive AVR to have your “wide” channels. Go figure. Your system sounds like it’ll be just insane, tho. Good for you, being a price-watch hawk and deal finder. That’s the way to go. I’m excited FOR you, once you get that dedicated theater room. 💯🤘
I had been running a 5.1 set up for over 20 years (with the occasional AV receiver upgrade) and was really happy with it. However once Atmos content started to become more available, I felt it was time to upgrade. I’ve recently managed to squeeze a 7.1.4 setup into my living room as part of a downstairs renovation which included adding some additional sound dampening layers and ceiling isolation. I’ve had to make some slight compromises on speaker placement, but overall I’m really happy with the result. It’s as close as I’m going to get to a home cinema with the size of property I have. My next move is to add a dedicated 4K blue ray player (currently using PS5) and then I may look at a dedicated amp for the front 3 speakers. Though space and plug sockets is becoming a real issue 😱. It is so tough to find decent media units that look nice, I’ve had to modify the one I’ve had but it is at max capacity already.
Imma be honest with one thing. "Balanced" XLR is just snake oil. If you're hearing interference in your speakers, just get shielded speaker wires. Don't have to unnecessarily break the bank on a pre-pro with XLR.
I plan on getting a stereo receiver as a soundbar replacement. 99% of soundbars under $400 are only stereo anyway, but with less proficient drivers, aren't two-way, and can't stereo-image properly because of the fixed nature of the left and rights channels therefore they have to employ psychoacoustics which most TV's already have built-in anyway. So that's why I'm opting for a stereo receiver. Plus, I don't have the need for the many HDMI inputs, optical and coaxial inputs, and phono outputs of an av receiver. And a lot of lower tier av receivers have various HDMI problems anyway or you have to wait on "promised" functionality, so why bother, especially seeing as I'm not setting up a 3/5/7.1 surround system.
So according to this I’m at the top end of tier 3. 9.2.2 Dolby atmos receiver (pre outs)with a dedicated 3 channel amp for my front three. In an apartment. Yeah I’ll pass on stage 4 for a while, I don’t want to get kicked out, I actually chose my apartment to be a corner unit on the ground floor for this reason, I share 2 less walls for people to complain.
Good information, I am already at the big leagues , I’m running a av Marantz 8805 + 2 8077 power amps going separates, it was the best decision I ever made I know they’re expensive but they worth it every penny
Got that right. They are very well made and a great sounding speaker the Wharfedale Diamond Range.12.3 maybe better sounding for the money against their bigger brother the 12.4.
Hi Ealan. I enjoyed so much your CZcams videos. I recently purchased a Wharfdale Evo 4.4. I am planning to just setup a 3.1 system. So I already am planning to get an Evo 4.C as my center speaker and a subwoofer maybe on Black Friday, lol. Now, with all those speakers, can I just hook them up on an AVR or do I need Seperates as you discussed on this video. This is for music and movies to relax after stressful day at the office. Hope you can help me.
Yes, you can definitely just hook those up to an AVR to start with, since the recommended amp power starts at 25 and 30 watts respectively for those Wharfdale speakers. BUT…the 4.C can handle up to 150 watts, and the 4.4 can handle up to 200 watts, so I would have an eventual goal to utilize external amps that can truly push those speakers to where they shine. But I get it - everything is so expensive right now, so one step at a time. 😁🤘
That’s what I did with a Denon 5.1 at receiver and infinity speakers on sale all less than 600$ 100 times better than any sound bar and better than any speakers I’ve had in my entire life plus 5 year warranty. Saved all the boxes too just in case.
I have a Yamaha 7.1 bookshelf speaker system at home and it sounds great for movies and music. But for everyday watching TV I use my Klipsch SoundBar 40 with subwoofer. It sounds so good I often think I have the Yamaha on. What I really like about this soundbar is that on the remote you turn down the subwoofer ease so if you want to watch TV and NOT wake everyone up you can do that. So it goes really low in volume or very high with good base from the sub. Its only an 8” sub too, But sounds good. Just like My Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 for my computer.

Yeah, just buy a good soudbar with dedicated sub and surround speakers and you'll get 95% of the home theater experience for a fraction of the price. Edit: having said that, I love to learn more about this stuff and would love to one day have a dedicated system. For now I'm waitinf for a Samsung Q950A, hoping it will give me a nice experience in my small apartment. Just subed to you channel so keepmthe videos coming

Hi, Love your content. Just wondering if there is a conversion device that can convert the height channel audio to be played to the surround back channels of an older non-atmos receiver? I have an older Pioneer SC LX72 and prefer to keep it if there's such a device rather than having to upgrade.
No, sorry. The receiver itself will need to show the Dolby Atmos logo on it to be able to decode Atmos metadata properly. And I don't know of any device out there that could "upgrade" a legacy receiver to be able to decode Atmos.

For movies I have a blu-ray player to play DVDs hooked up to a 5.1 surround sound system. Today, I find myself watching more movies through streaming services. I am ready to upgrade to a Denon AVS-760h. How do I connect my soundbar and the speakers to the receiver if I wanted to operate the speakers separately? To watch regular TV using the soundbar and be able to switch to 5.1 speakers when I want to watch a movie.
Hmmm...well, you could send 5.1 audio to your sound bar through your TVs optical (aka Toslink) output, since almost all sound bars have an optical input. So when you're watching TV, make sure and choose the "optical" audio setting. Then make sure your Denon S760h is connected to your TV via its ARC/eARC HDMI input. When watching movies through your smart TV's streaming platforms (Netflix, etc) make sure you choose the ARC audio setting, instead of Optical. Make sense?
I need some advice, Am pretty new to Home Theater, I have The Denon AVR-X3700H, I am running all 9 channels, I do think the Denon AVR-X3700H is alittle under powered at 105 watts per ch, I was thinking of either Returning the Denon AVR-X3700H and getting the Denon AVR-X6700H, Or should I keep the Denon AVR-X3700H and get a external amplifier which will be better?
Well, the X6700H has more power per channel, can handle front “wide” channels, slightly better processor, can process 13 channels instead of 11, has Auro 3D support along with Atmos and DTS:X, and other little bells and whistles like SiriusXM, Pandora and more zones if that’s your thing. But if you don’t care about all that, and just want to use it for movies and music mainly, I’d definitely go for external amps with your 3700H. Even the 6700H will benefit greatly from using external amps. It’s just a matter of if you care about Auro 3D or maybe someday having the option of a monster 9.1.4 system, etc. Then go for the 6700H. But I think the 3700H with ext amps is a better bargain. 🤘

I want a soundbar for simplicity but there isn’t one I’d buy right now. Some might sound good but they are all bug infested. Plus I’d really like to watch my DTS blu rays and there are very few eARC TVs that will pass through DTS via eARC.
Omg why can’t literally ANYONE explain it like this. I swear most home theatre enthusiasts are the most smart ass people who will laugh when you ask you ask the basics. I’m a newbie to the sound systems. The best way to kill a hobby is to be rude to the newcomers. Makes sense why people are getting into sound bars even though AVR is superior.
