  • The summer of 2023 I hiked the JMT under historic conditions encountering snowy passes, high water crossings, & a broken South Fork San Joaquin River Bridge.
    Mt. Whitney to Yosemite (260 miles) including starting from horseshoe meadows, a resupply at Kearsarge, & half dome at the end.

    Great video! You're absolutely right about the negative energy that people can generate wiht their fears. I totally believe that where there's a will there's a way. I'm heading NB this Summer after going SB in 2021. Can't wait to see it all in reverse!

    Congratulations! Excellent video especially with all the high water crossings to get your shots. I did a southbound JMT (Tuolumne Meadows-Whitney-Tuolumne Meadows to Yosemite) in '17, another record snowpack years. Glad you were able to end with doing Half Dome. Completing Half Dome was "the icing on the cake" to our trips.

    Okay, that's what I'm talkin about----a positive report from a positive hiker! Thanks for taking us along on your journey. Attitude is everything and I've followed other hiker's reports that were mostly complaints about their feet, the weather, the company, etc. You made the most of your trip and I'm sure that this successful trip is a reflection of your life in general. Good karma and great hike!

    Great video and content! Glad that you made it all the way! I started the same JMT NOBO trip on July 1 (a few weeks before you) and only made it to Chicken Spring Lake which was still frozen at the time. I couldn't even find the trail in a lot of places because of the snow. That with a heavy pack (and being 69 yrs old) it was challenging to say the least. There were a lot of PCTers turning back because they couldn't cross the creeks ahead because of the strong runnoff. So with that and the snow etc I decided to bag it and try again this year. I'm all set with the permits etc..... I'll start again on July 10, 2024.

    I crossed the So. Fork on 9/17. The Bridge structure's steel has been removed is set off in a pile on the bank. The ranger I talked to said the steel and other material for a new bridge were being heliocoptered in the near future. Great adventure overall.

      Thanks for watching! Ah, I was wondering when they were going to get around removing the bridge. I crossed on 8/7.

    Great video. I hiked the trail northbound in September this year. I agree about the trail changing around vvr, the miles came a lot easier on the northern half.

    • @ericsrinehart
      @ericsrinehart  Před 8 měsíci

      Thank you! I'm glad you agreed with me - it doesn't seem like many of the northbound trip reports highlight the difficulty difference in the northern vs southern part

    The fact you crossed that bridge 3 times instead of once just for the shot is craaazy. Lol

      Thanks! A lot of snow on the southern passes - muir had 6 miles or so. Forrester had 1 mile of snow. None on the northern passes

    I get the quitting a job because no company is going to give you a month off to go hiking. The girlfriend gave an ultimatum, her or hiking, clearly hiking was the choice.

    I just started the video and telling you, youre wrong about your resupply and getting upset about it, is just ridiculous.
