USA Hockey Will Beat Team Canada At The 4Nation Faceoff...

  • Earlier today, the four nations competing at the 2025 4Nation Faceoff announced the first six players of their rosters. Canada's roster is absolutely loaded with star talent and their final roster may rival the 1987 Canada Cup team. However, one competitor may upset the Canadian dream team, The United States. Their first six players announced are all superstars, and they have one massive advantage over the Canadians. In this video, I discuss this advantage and how it may derail an entire generation of Canadian talent.

    There's no bigger USA hockey fanatic than me. But predictions like this are silly. USA could win every game or lose every game and get killed. All four teams will be stacked. In a one-off tournament, anyone can beat anyone. All it takes is a hot goalie or a bad bounce etc... Honestly, I think USA would struggle to beat Finland, let alone Canada. Why? Finland, despite not having the most impressive roster, always play as a TEAM and sacrifice for each other. Same with Canada. Wearing that maple leaf seems to give them an extra gear. The problem for American star players is that they know they're good. Imo, that's a negative. It's better to stay humble and keep your expectations low. Impossible for this group of guys.
    I've been watching hockey since the mid-1980s. The only time USA managed beat Canada's best in a game that actually mattered was in the 1996 World Cup. USA did so because they played as a team. Since then, USA has always...without exception...FAILED to live up to the hype. For whatever reason, they've always disappointed. I don't care how pretty their roster looks. Until they actually win another best-on-best tournament, I'll remain skeptical. Show me!

    In terms of overall development the US still isn’t close to Canada, imagine a tournament like this but with countries 2nd teams Canada would absolutely dominate and it wouldn’t be close. Other countries may be catching up with the top international level talent, but they are miles behind Canada in terms of depth. That’s also not mentioning no other country produces Generational talents like Canada, Crosby, Bedard, McDavid all in the span of a decade and a half compared to the rest of the world maybe two in Ovechkin and Matthews(?)

  • @stephane8621
    @stephane8621 Před měsícem +1

    Couple of things to mention ;
    Brad Marchand is extremely well rounded forward (asides from playing well with Crosby) . He also plays left wing, a position Canada lacks depth on (so the decline would have to be drastic) . As a locker room hype man , I think having Brad as a leader is a good decision.
    Yes the US should be the favourites . But mostly due to overall depth (offence , goaltending but especially defence) .
    Goaltending;
    Stanley cup winner Binnington who also handle prime Colorado in the playoffs two years ago is good for the job . I wouldn’t say there’s a massive difference . The guy just hasn’t had a chance to play big games due to the Blues falling off . A .915% for last season on a very weak team is pretty exceptional goaltending imo. Especially when your team isn’t playing for anything. As mentioned, the Stanley cup winners (Colorado) were relieved to see he got injured in their series. Also the depth in this department doesn’t matter nearly as much , this is not an 82 game season with a rigorous playoff schedule . So it looks like a big lead for the states on depth , but they can only choose one net-minder.
    As for the 1-0 win in 2014 . It was Babcocks strategy to play defence . If you watch the game , the Us was never a threat . That previous Us team should therefore not be mentioned. Funny you didn’t bring up their more recent best on best performance in 2016 😂. Probably had a lot to do with them upgrading / revamping their program .

    Most Canadian players (dads) play and have kids in the US. Those kids develop and play for the US.

    Any one of them can step up like Hill or Skinner.

      "The reason why hockey development in the US has gotten better is because of Canada."...I see this type of salty comment from Canadians all the time. It's designed to make yourselves feel better inside whilst diminishing American hockey. Canadians make such statements because their pride doesn't permit them to acknowledge the accomplishments of the U.S. program. Simply put, USA hockey is a threat to Canada. Canadians feel the need to belittle by saying the U.S. owes it all to Canada. Canada is A reason...not THE reason that USA hockey has gotten better. Take an inventory of USA's best players and research how many have zero connection to Canada. The overwhelming majority of top U.S. players have no such Canadian Dads of which you speak. Cherry picking a player here or that is not reflective of the whole. I can just as easily point to the ever increasing number of top Canadian players that choose to play College (NCAA) hockey and say they owe their development to the U.S.
      "Canada has 33 Canadian born goalies in the NHL the US has 20." Quality...not quantity of goalies is more important. I'm sure you can understand this. Want to talk quantity? I have some stats that should scare the crap out of you. In the 1983-84 NHL season, Canadians represented 77.4% and the U.S. only 10.6% of total players in the league. Today, 40 years later, Canada has dropped to 42% while the U.S. climbed to 28% of the league. (QuantHockey dot com). See for yourself. The numbers don't lie. Canada and the U.S. are on opposite trajectories. It will take a few decades, but the U.S. will eventually have a quantity AND quality advantage over Canada. Truth hurts sometimes.

      @@odoaceroftheneoromanempire7178 I bare you no malice at all. But, it's clear to me that you're salty. Your mention of captains was just another predictable way to belittle American hockey. I couldn't care less about how many Cup captains are Canadian or not. If the quantity of Canadian and American Cup captains were to become level in the future, you'd simply move the goal posts and point to another irrelevant factoid. This is what Canadians do when they're afraid of losing hockey supremacy. Most amusing of all is how you mentioned population size...as if it's THE factor that determines sporting success. By your logic, India and China should be the best at hockey. Interest in the sport is far more important than population size. Hockey interest in the U.S. is increasing steadily, as evidenced by the quantity of registered ice hockey players. The real reason why you pointed out population size is because Canadians will eventually use it as an excuse if/when the U.S. surpasses Canada in hockey. Is this guaranteed to happen? No, of course not. Honestly, I think it will take another 30 years for the U.S. to unequivocally surpasses Canada in hockey. Canada still has plenty of time on top, so you can relax.
