Correction: The gavel doesn't hit the lectern, but rather a small block of wood called a "sounding block" First, because it's usually specially made of hard-wood which gives a louder sound, but second, to protect the underlying table so guys like McHenry don't totally destroy the place with his mini-Mjölnir

    • @vforwombat9915
      @vforwombat9915 Před 7 měsíci +48

but is the sounding block part of the lectern?
is a horn a part of a car when it is installed?
is it even installed, or does it just lie on top, waiting for one errant hit at the wrong angle to send it flying into the face of some innocent lectern bystander?
at what point do we define 'lectern?' which parts of it are lectern and which parts are not?

they never say they pound the sounding block.
now, we cold get into colloquial versus technical usage and semantics.
this is a hive of scum and jackals, after all.
or we can discuss if colloquial usage, which is clearly implying said sounding block is part of said object it is resting on, irregardless of whether it is attached or not, is incorrect.
the problem with calling colloquial usage incorrect is ofc that words' meanings are defined by usage.
if 99-99.999% of people de facto identify the sounding block as part of the lectern, then it becomes part of the lectern semantically.

Correction for one of these corrections: Not all gulls are herring gulls. There's a lot of species of gull, from tiny little ringbilled gulls and mew gulls to great big herring gulls and glaucous gulls. There are even many gull hybrids, such as the Olympic Gull found in coastal western Canada, which are part herring gull and part several other species of gull. Also, seagull is a perfectly valid slang term for gull, since you often see them by the sea, and everyone knows what "seagull" means.
Did the ornithologist mean that the specific gull shown was a herring gull, or were they not, in fact, a gull expert and more focused on, say, passerines?
Disclaimer: I'm not an ornithologist myself, but I do have autistic perseverations on birds, taxonomy, and etymology. And cats.

Fun animal fact: Platypus mothers don't have breasts or nipples. Instead, they sweat their milk from their mammary glands. This may seem weird, but mammals started off that way-- lactation precedes breasts, nipples, and even mammary glands. Therapsids, Cynodontia, and Mammaliaformes (precursors to mammals) secreted milk from cutaneous glands (similar to sweat glands). Eventually, mammals (from the Latin "mamma" meaning breast) evolved into three subcategories: Eutheria (placental), Metatheria (marsupials), and Monotremata (egg-laying).
Another fun animal fact is that monotremes (egg layers) have ten sex chromosomes (Xs and Ys), which is another thing that sets them apart from all other mammals. “Them” because the platypus isn't alone-the echidna also lays eggs and is equally strange.

Animal Flubs returns! :D I loved the platypus solo, from there to the end I just dissolved into hopeless giggles and tears, this "boring stupid show" is the best and I'm so glad y'all are back :D

Yes, the return of Animal Flubs! That segment makes me laugh harder than possibly anything else on CZcams.

Holy crap, that Animal Flubs got me. An earlier episode had a chain going to bring it back, then I went down a rabbit hole, gophered up some old episodes to hawk the old flubs, and then Seth dung beetle rolls this out at the last second for us jackals. I love corrections so much.

I learn new things every time I watch this show. For example, I didn't know I needed Animal Flubs back in my week. This boring stupid show is the only thing on YT that makes me laugh the way my friends make me laugh. So now I also learned that my friends are boring and stupid. Thanks, jackals.
    Corrections, so glad you're back.

So, Sal is in the pay of big Teleprompter. I am only glad that Seth's time in Impression Camp helped him to give us the essence of this effete scalawag, even through we love him otherwise.

What the heck is this stupid boring show? Only the best thing the Elders of the Internet have ever bestowed on us! I missed this so much. I know it's only for a small audience but I'm so grateful you guys do this for us. ❤
