Was there on February 14, 1976 Spectrum, Philadelphia, PA (Rory Gallagher, Black Oak Arkansas, with Back Street Crawler - with Koss on gtr). Koss was so high he couldn't play. 2 fingers on his left hand were in a splint. He kept playing ever after the songs were finished, The rest of the band stood away from him. He kept asking the roadies for a beer and kept staggering around. Their other guitarist played all the solos. March 19, 1976 one month later Kossoff dies. Saddest thing I've ever seen. I was such a fan of Koss too.
@cornholio1962 Yes not too long after that show with Rory Gallagher and Black Oak did Kossoff die. I liked his playing and the first 3 studio albums of FREE are outstanding. Ritchie Blackmore was a huge fan of Paul Kossoff. He praised Kossoff's guitar playing in interviews back in the 70s. ..
No mistaking Koss. Lucky to have seen him live with Free, loved him, it's just a pity he's not here now. Massive loss to music and so sad. Love ya Koss.
i had the pleasure to see Free when i was 15 , i stood just near the stage a few meters from Paul Kossoff , OMG what an energy, till today i remember this gig as it was yesterday , such an impression he made on me.
You re a bit younger than me luc. I saw Free in Croyden at the Fox and Greyhound when All Right Now was in the charts. I must have been about 18 then. Absolutely unforgettable. These were the good old days when you could walk around most parts of London in relative safety.
I’m a big Skynyrd fan, I saw an interview with Gary, they asked him about his influences, he said Duane, Ry Cooder and Paul Kossoff, I had heard of the first two, I looked Paul up, damn I’m glad I did 😊
@@carolpattison608 very true, but he did not get the recognition he deserved. He was superb with free. B.s.c. were a great band, but never got the recognition on the radio at the time. P.k will always be up there with the best in my eyes.
I went to one of his speeches at the last drop village in Bolton years ago what a great night that was must be one of the worst things losing a child what a legend .
Good frontman with good voice....met him in 1974 at a party...my gf att was Terrys sisters best mate ...he just had 'it'...had good bit banter with him as I was the only guy there (besides him) with long hair & into rock & blues! PK was a great guitarist ...cut short!
If i'm not mistaked photos from Liverpool Empire gig I was at 1975....Koss apparently feind passing out then played his ass off and the crowd went wild great memories...btw he was on blistering form thst night..
The pictures at 5.30 seem to show Koss in pyjamas in a hospital bed, flanked by band members. How moving, he looks so happy. He was successfully treated for his first heart attack, and discharged , before succumbing to a second, months later.
Yes. Paul was taken to Northwick Park Hospital in North London where he recovered. The band bought him a new acoustic guitar as a birthday present as he celebrated his 25th birthday on 14 September 1975 while in hospital. 6 months later on 19 March 1976 he would leave us.
@@BigSky1 brings back vivid memories, seeing the band in Manchester a few months before, when he was playing brilliantly. Then a poor show in London, when he wasn’t fit to play. Finally meeting his dad on his ‘alright now’ tour celebrating Paul’s life.
@@martshankleman One of my big regrets is being too young to see and hear Free live, Born in 1961 I was just too young. Paul s place in this band was filled by an extremely tasty guitarist called geoff whitehorn. Check him out on the two albums by a band called If. I think they are on CZcams.
Try the wonderful Geoff Whitehorn on Roger Chapman - The Unknown Soldier. The one where Chappo is wearing the pink trousers. He is also on Roger Chapman’s most recent video: Playtime. Hope you enjoy them! 🎸
@@jimstewart8759 thanks Jim. You ve reminded me that I ve got a Roger Chapman DVD somewhere that I will have to look out. Back when I was in my 20s I dug out everything I could with Geoff on it. I've never heard Koss Kirke Tetsu Rabbitt. I'm afraid of something I don't like. He was so much into dope and I want to remember him as THE KING. Manchester 1970 is one of the best shows ever for me. On tube of course. I was 7 those days
Highly Underrated guitarist! The tone and style is incredible. Free was still better. Probably the best blues rock band form the UK that never really made it.
Loved Kossoff..Kirke..Tetusu..and Rabbit..That record is so great..Loved Back street Crawler also..Of course Free..Koss was so talented..RIP Paul 3/19/75..
Koss is amazing with those hanging vibrato's. that every guitar player wants to copy. I don't hear That Vibrato very often if at all. Bonamassa gets very close though.

Same as me. 4 ft behind him. Rock god! He hated his inability to play fast. He didn’t know how good he was.

Such a sad and tragic loss. So young. F****ing drugs!!!! 😡😡😡😡😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
Koss was a guitar God, it’s so sad how his drug addiction led to his death at such a young age.

I was lucky enough to see Free twice best group I saw live
Who remembers Kossoff's dad?
Yes David I attended one of his anti drug shows about 1980 in London
I sat behind David Kossof at a free concert he was dressed in Suite and dicky bow with I gather family and friends great times !

Wish we had been able to still Have Paul among us
The BSC catalog needs remixing to push the guitars up in the mix
Some fab guitar on this one👍😊❤️
