If someone keeps on playing with someone else‘s emotions just because they have trauma does not make it okay and if they themselves are not able to stop toxic behavior like that it’s okay to distance yourself for your own sanity. I‘m not saying people struggling psychologically should be systematically excluded, but be smart enough to let someone else walk all over you just because they themselves are hurting.
@@gone6975 I have read the second and third books and Jeremiah does increasingly get worse for belly but I think the real reason is because she always loved Conrad and will always love him. I know the Jeremiah cheats on belly in the third book and it’s not good. But in the first book and TV show I just feel like Jeremiah was the better option and he treated her better.

And honestly Jere basically just saved there relationship because most likely Conrad would’ve ended up doing something stupid screwing up the relationship anyways. Dude also liked Belly for years now. If you would actually watch the series you would know that. He would never purposely kill his crush or brother. Sure he gets mad at him but never go that far and you know it.
Reasons I'm on team Jeremiah:
1. He did like Belly before the summer she "turned pretty" because at the pool scene he said that he was waiting for her but there was always Conrad and how this summer there was Cam.
2. Belly seems more comfortable around him. And when they kiss it's more natural and passionate. It's even more romantic. But at the end of the show Belly was just a little hesitant to kiss Conrad since he says that he needed her. But after he said that Belly corrects him and says how she doesn't want someone to need her she wants someone to want her (Jeremiah wants her so badly and doesn't need her. But Conrad needs and somewhat wants her. Conrad seems to have doubts) But after Belly says that Conrad is like "I do want you". But you also need her soooooo.
3. Jeremiah has always been upfront with Belly. He didn't have any doubts that he loved her.
4. Sure, Conrad has some communication issues (like when he and Belly were talking about almost kissing) but if you've known someone for that long you shouldn't act like that around them. I know Conrad was dealing with stuff though, but he could've told someone.
5. Jeremiah treats Belly like a literal queen. Can we talk about the car scene for a minute? Jeremiah asked Belly if she was sure about the hand placement and everything. Then, when Belly gets out of the shower the next day Jeremiah tells her that he doesn't want to rush her or anything.
6. When Jeremiah was talking with Belly about the Deb. Ball and after he said that he will be with her the whole night, he spins her and then they kiss. When they kiss it isn't a slow and unsure kiss.

What bothers me about many shows/books is that no author/producer ever considers that, no, in real life it is not always your first love you end up with. Sometimes people fall in love with the idea of being together and never fall out of that. But you change. The other person changes, too. Sometimes you also need to let go. I think that's a life lesson that everyone should be reminded of. It's not like I do not think her love is not real. I just hoped sometimes authors would consider that there may be other persons that will make you happy. The "first lead win" will mostly imply that you will never be happy without that person... Let's see whether they will change that in the live action adaptation. They already changed a lot to make it 'up to date' so, I hope that they will also portray about untypical happy ending instead of an obvious one.

Belly is like Joey from Dawson's Creek, she obsessed over Conrad the same way Joey did with Dawson, but at least the writer of that show was smart and made Joey decide to not end up with him.
Programmes have a responsibility to show that making the tough choice to walk away, is at times the best option. Suffering for a lifetime, in disfunction, most certainly is not.
One of the few times I’ve seen this done really well by an author was the Georgia Nicolson series by Louise Rennison. Dave the Laugh is still one of my favorite book characters.❤
OMG!! JEREMIAH is soo SWEET. He's always there for Belly and treats her the way she should be. Conrad literally throws her to the side for most of the season for his own reasons, yet she still kisses him. No idea why. Team Jeremiah all the way man!

And Conrad was giving belly mixed signals throughout. He was telling belly he has feelings for her only when she was with other guys and trying to mess up her relationship with them . The rest of the time he was treating her like shit. Jeremiah made it really clear from the starting of the show that he likes belly and there's nothing wrong if he just wanted to let Belly know about his feelings cuz Conrad and belly were not even a thing and belly was openly dating other guys too.

Jelly owns my heart, even from the start, you can see just by the way when they saw each other the first episode, the look in his eyes, his actions, that isnt just a mere crush, and idk about you, but it seem like love to me. As a team #Jelly, I feel the need to admit that there were some moments where Jere set up events to make things go his way. Specifically, the part where Jere intentionally set out a firework to stop Bonrad from kissing. In addition, the part where Jere also lead Shayla and Nicole regarding that concert just so they can have a double date where Conrad will be involved so he won't be anywhere near Belly. Yes, he did those petty things. However, Jere was there for Belly, may it be friendship or intimate kind of love. I still believe Belly deserves Jere so much. (I'm saying Belly deserves Jere because he treats her really good, while Belly is hoeing around🤦♀️)
Although, Belly needs to change too. She's basically the problem, jumping from one guy to another on the show.

She really ruined Jeremiah for me in the third book… I felt like they could have wrote it so that he really only loved her as a best friend, but felt like he was loosing her because of conrad, so tried to win her over romantically? I've read the first book, and heard why readers don't like Jeremiah by the end of the book series. But the show is different: new plotlines, new characters, improved characters -- all of it approved by the original author. That's why I'm fully team Jere, at least for now

I'd always choose Jeremiah, The chemistry Belly had with Conrad is of course undeniable but what they have, it isn't forever. It's a childhood crush and this dream of being with them but what Jeremiah is to Belly is something entirely different, something good. Jeremiah will always be the better one for her. They have that kind of quiet chemistry that lasts a long time where you can envision them sitting in front of their house in a bench years and years later still in love kind of thing. Their dynamic didn't seem like a 'fling' it was more of ' I want to always be with you' and everyone knows Jeremiah would never hurt her. I am still in like 3rd episode and just way he looks at her gives me butterflies.
I think people mix admiration and love. See Jeremiah admires Belly. For she is the only one who he’s really ever let himself get close to. But he doesn’t love her. He thinks he does. I think Jenny Han really went into the extent to show the difference. Jeremiah is like a Lightbulb in a flashlight. He can shine at day and night but is never super strong in either. And eventually the lightbulb will fissle out. It burns. It really is an interpretation of how we see things. The sun - conrad. Is there in the daytime, and his super strong. He makes people feel good about themselves when they’re depressed and is there for them when they need someone. But just because he isn’t present at night doesn’t mean he isn’t there. See, Belly is like the moon. She reminds people shes there, and she helps guide them through situations that others couldn’t think were possible. Each of them are strong on their own . But the sun and the moon together is a match made in heaven literally. They don’t fade out, they just compliment each other and let them have their own moment to shine. I’ve met a lot of Jeremiahs in my life and it never lasts. My boyfriend is like a Conrad. There through think and thin.

I mean, I get it's a metaphor, but don't you think it's a bit weird to put a girl as the moon and the guy as the sun? The moon that we call moon, it's only earth's moon. The solar sistem literally ALL of it, gravitates towards the sun, it's the most important element of it. And there's a lot of moons on the solar sistem and they are not only gravitating around the sun, but especially around the planets that match with each moon.
So, this is like saying that Conrad is everything in this relationship and Belly is not only forced to walk around him but change herself for his presence and her path for his, while also having to gravitate around another planet so that she can actually run with the sun, cause what makes a moon, a moon, it's the relation with the planet they belong ( kinda like moon and sun are not a match, the moon it's a match with Earth). So this whole thing it's kinda messed up, the moon can literally not shine without the sun, but if the moon died, earth would be affected and people's lives would be affected, but the sun wouldn't see any difference cause it doesn't need this moon at all.
I'm not talking about Conrad and Belly's relationship especifically here btw, it's more about how the metaphor doesn't really work unless we're talking about a toxic relationship, where whoever is the moon has no choice at all, cause in the end just matters what the sun wants them to do.

It doesn't excuse the way he treated the other girl he was dating and the way he treated Belly has nothing to do with it.
But when Jeremiah found out about his mom he immediately wanted to talk to Conrad.. i think this says a lot about who he is. Conrad keeps his feelings down, he doesn't know how to express himself and ends up being toxic and treating people poorly because of it. Jeremiah is the best choice but i just know somehow they're gonna have to make him dirty on season 2 otherwise there's really no reason for belly to end up with Conrad other than him being her childhood crush.

All of comments are more of Jeremiah, some were right but love isn't perfect at all and Conrad is just waiting the right timing. Remember, love is patient. It doesn't rush things. Conrad just waiting the right time but something came up with Susannah that make him confuse if he is deserving to pursue Belly or not. But one thing is for sure. I agree. In my opinion, it’s hard to choose just one brother, but because I also read the books, I thought Conrad was better. Then I watched the show and Jeremiah was spot on. I think it’s really dependent on who people think is better, but is frustrating that if for example I say I’m team jelly, I automatically have to hate Conrad. I love both the fisher brothers and can’t wait to see what happens. Both ships are adorable and whatever happens in the show happens, but like you said, people need to stop hating on one character, because both those actors and characters are wonderful
