    Very nice video Bill. I've been looking for a Habring2 ever since you brought it to our attention a while back, but haven't pulled the trigger on one. I had no idea Tudor had done this well in the GPHG. Well as always another great subject and video. Love your content Bill.

      Hi Matthew! Thanks man! As for my Habring2, all I want is another Habring2 - The Doppel Felix. It's rare that you can find an affordable hand-made watch by a master watchmaker like Richard Habring. Cheers, Bill

    Another fantastic video Bill. I always look forward to Friday and Sunday mornings because I know there will be another interesting video from you. 2018 was a big watch buying year for me so I’m going to have to be good for a while, but I still have my sights on a Habring2 Felix. What a fantastic watch. Hopefully one will come my way in 2019. I hope you and your family had a great holiday season. See you Sunday.

      Hey Bruce, thanks man! You will love the Habring2 Felix. An affordable hand-made timepiece. A true connoisseurs' choice...and the most consistently accurate watch in my collection! My busy year was 2017, and so I didn't get much in 2018 that I didn't make myself. Cheers, Bill

    Hi Bill, great video, I do enjoy looking at the archive from the GPHP awards, and see the innovative beautiful watch that were contesting and winning. I do own the Tudor BB 2013, so i have an award winning watch :D and i really want to get a Harbring2 someday to add to my collection. I think that is a great to get a grand Prix winner watch, as it reflects how watch experts opinions on the best watches on that time period. I think its great to find deals on those previous winners, as it has the horological pedigree and the price to make the watch perfect. Best, Abdul

      What's most amazing to me is that this little watch company in Austria can win 4 Grand Prix awards and keep their prices low enough that a lot more of us can afford what amounts to a hand-made watch by a master watchmaker! Enjoy your Tudor and good luck with a Habring2 in your near future! Cheers, Bill

    Happy New Year, Bill! A criticism that Hodinkee laid at the feet of Habring2 was their lack of finishing. How would you respond to that?

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  Před 5 lety +2

      Happy New Year to you too, Mark! There's no lack of finishing; there's just a lack of finishing in a certain style. What Richard and Marie Habring did was to have circular polishing on the top plate that included a bridge and even 3 spokes have the center wheel. It's very different from the typical finishing, but it's not lacking in finishing. As a result the movement plates/bridges have a single polished pattern unifying the entire back of the movement. Cheers, Bill

      The lack of finishing allows Habring2 to sell watches for a relatively low price. It depends on what you are looking for. Let's be honest here if you were looking for fine finished movements you wouldn't be looking at Habring2 and under $15K. I own a Habring2 Felix, it is a quality timepiece.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi WS&T; do you think more finishing would add an additional $5,000? I don't. We're in agreement that H2 Felix is an outstanding watch, but if they added Geneva waves, some beveling and maybe a little pelage ... how much could that be? Anyway, I'm glad I have a Felix, and I hope I can get a Doppel Felix. Kindest regards, Bill

      @@watchartsci Hello Mr. Sanders, the answer to your question is Yes. As Ian Skellern puts it " ...to the untrained observer a nicely finished movement in a $5,000 watch can look very similar to a superlatively finished movement in a $500,000 watch" I would recommend to you and viewers interested in this topic to read Ian Skellern's piece titled 'Why Do Ultra-High-End Watches Cost So Much? Hand-Finishing At Romain Gauthier Sheds Some Light' for Quill & Pad. A good overview in my opinion.
      Again, I own a Habring2 Felix and prior to this watch I owned a Habring2 Jumping Second, so I appreciate the brand, their technical achievements, and the company's values, but let's not get confused here. Research is important for all of us to have a rewarding conversation.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  Před 5 lety

      @@watchshowandtell7138 I understand the value of hand-made watches and hand-finishing and can tell the difference between a machine-beveled bridge and one done by hand. (I was instructed by a master watchmaker in that matter.) I can also tell the difference between no-finishing and a smooth-finishing done with skill and care. If you take a Lang & Heyne watch, not only do you see the kind of finishing beyond most watches (and makers) you also find exhibition-worthy engraving with all of the movement held together with a trigonal bridge to best reveal the movement and finishing. By making a leap from Habring2's skillful but plain finishing to curved chamfers by the only two watchmakers have mastered the skill (Philippe Dufour & Romain Gauthier) you've made a leap that was not the level I implied. If you take a $10,000 watch that claims and is acknowledged as high horology, you can expect some kind of finishing-perhaps on a Vacheron Constantin FiftySix with their movement made by ValFleurier and with finishing touches by VC. The skeletonized gold rotor is a nice touch with some little beveling and the main plate has the Geneva waves. The stainless steel version is $11,900 ... slightly more than than the $5,000 added that I mentioned and you can add the automatic winding for the extra. However, on close examination you can see that while the finishing isn't bad, to me, it's not $5,000 better finishing than the Habring2. Anyway WS&T, I don't mean to pick nits, and I believe you and I are on the same page ... only on different paragraphs. There never was any confusion about the value of research, and I appreciate what you have done to add to the discussion and further out mutual fascination with mechanical timepieces. Kindest regards, Bill

    Unfortunately, not all brands participate or are considered (brands must submit watches to the competition). Otherwise, it would be a more realistic grading resource.

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  Před 5 lety

      Hi Watch Show & Tell ... yes, not all brands do participate. Nobody stopping them, though... so, I consider it the best resource available for brands judged by experts; not by hyperbole. So, like you, I too wish all brands would participate. Cheers, Bill

    Bill need information abut Concord - Saratoga Automatic, Pink Gold / Steel

    • @watchartsci
      @watchartsci  Před 5 lety

      Hi Alaa, I could find no movement information on the Concord ref. # 0310831, which is the stainless steel version of the pink gold version you're asking about. Sorry, man, the stainless steel version is available for around $1,700 but the gold one is over $10k. If I had to guess, I'd say it was an ETA 7750 with the DD module for chronograph, but I really couldn't find out. Sorry man. Bill
