  • Switching gears a bit, this time we take a look at a couple older Colt AR15s. These carbines were recently traded in by a police department, and now are being sold off as surplus by CDNN down in Texas.
    Featured are a LE6520, LE6530, and the quite uncommon and unique LE6320.
    CDNN has quite a few versions and variants. Some are common and solid guns, while a few are weird and rare.
    Not sure what they have left now, but if you contact them and ask for something specific, they will look to see if they have something like it. If you call, ask for Steve. He was the one who got me this LE6320, which was the variant I was hoping to score.

    Misha is great, his videos always are slower paced and more in depth information wise which I actually like, kind of like that rare teacher you get in school where everyone wants to actually listen to him lol

    Back in 97 I bought my 1st bushmaster rifle, it was labeled Shorty Carbine & it looked just like the second rifle, A2 sights & buttstock, carbine length gas system but no threads on the barrel....I miss that AR

    Colt was probably looking to get rid of excess parts of obsolete variants of the AR15 with those models too, good idea.

    • @ozarkbeararms8840
      @ozarkbeararms8840 Před 6 lety +1

      Taking advantage of the AR's lego styling, Colt would pretty much let a customer dictate how they wanted their guns built/configured....just as long as they were willing to buy several hundred at a time.

    • @chrisloUSA
      @chrisloUSA Před 6 lety

      Ozark Bear Arms I am surprised they would keep parts for obsolete configurations for just a few hundred rifles.

      Colt's manufacturing is steeped in a bureaucratic culture. What may seem to be obvious common sense on their part is much more likely to have originated from a legal briefing by a law firm.

    My first AR-15 was a ban era Colt R6530 aka Sporter Lightweight. It had a 16” pencil profile barrel with a neutered muzzle, no bayonet lug, A2 stock, A2 upper with A2 sights, sear block, two screw pivot pin, and “half moon” BCG. As soon as the AWB sunset I sent out the barrel for threading and swapped the stock out for a telescoping carbine receiver extension and stock.

  • @calichegardener4115
    @calichegardener4115 Před 6 lety +3

    I agree the A1 sights are better combat sights in most ways. the A2 only offers quick adjustments but it's not needed. the sight pictures are the same.

    I wish you guys could get your hands on one of those Chinese AR-15s that have the ribbed handguards, curved, revolver-like pistol grip, hooded front sight, and buttstock with a dip in the middle. I'd like to get one of those to add to a collection.

      @TeCHnORiOT Před 6 lety +1

      But getting the right parts is what's difficult. Because of the '89 import ban Norinco firearms cannot be obtained legally here in the US, although I'm not sure if that applies to parts such as handguards, buttstocks, pistol grips, and front sights.

    • @WasatchGarandMan
      @WasatchGarandMan Před 6 lety +1

      Corinthian it doesnt apply to all the parts that matter. Other then the stock set and fore end cap its a standard a1 type ar

      Mishaco, I have a question for you. With your encyclopedia-like knowledge of rifles, what would be your design for a replacement of the M-4 rifle? Would it be long stroke piston, short stroke piston, or direct impingement? Polymer, steel, or aluminum? 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 6.5mm, etc.? I am curious as to what kind of rifle you would design? The best parts or aspects from the best rifles! Thank you Mishaco!

    • @ozarkbeararms8840
      @ozarkbeararms8840 Před 6 lety +1

      Honestly? I wouldn't do anything, not now at least. Anything the US gov't might adopt to replace the modern M4/M4A1 would only be marginely better at best, so relatively small gains. At least compared with the huge cost in time & money (tax payer dollars remember) that would come with a new weapons system. Its not just the firearms themselves, but also magazines, equipment, accessories/gear, spare parts stockpiles, and retraining all the armorers. And if you were to go to a new caliber, there would be even more to it all. Now this is worth it when the next rifle is a big leap forward, like say it was from the M1903 to the M1 Garand, or yes M14 to M16; but today there's really not a rifle that is vastly superior to the M4.
      The M4 is reliable, quite soldier friendly, relatively ergonomic, tried & tested, plenty accurate, easy to mount optics on, easy to reconfigure for different situations, cost effective, and most vets I know respect it & have confidence in their issued weapon.
      Hey, its a boat load better than either the L85 or FAMAS still right? hehee

    Oh, and you guys should get your hands on a La France M16K, they had a unique A1 upper that was basically the same, but at the end of the front of the upper is where the front sight was, as a result, the end of the handguards didn't have the front sight.

    Man, I finally tracked one of these AR6320's for my collection. It's a keeper. Since the Sp-1 was the only game in town when I was a kid, I appreciate the A1 sights and lightweight handling on these. So I still think these are good for KISS. i'm pretty sure this entire run came with M4 stocks, but I have a Colt Fiberlite like yours that I put on and it's weighing in at 5 lb 12 oz. I'm thinking about replacing the half moon BCG with the Colt M4 one I have in my box of goodies. I hate to bugger a limited run LE rifle, but it really needs a pinned 14.5" barrel to be perfect.

    FYI..... that is not an A1 grip. A 1 grips had no finger rest at all. True, that Some A1 grips had a glossier finish, but those were very early, and again, no finger rest. I have many early Colt AR-15's with all kind of strange variations. From forward assit oddities to you name it.

    I have one that looks like your second rifle with the fixed stock but hat colt m4 hangards. I've often wondered if it was just a mix of old gun parts left over in an armory some where. If you ever get an inch maybe you cold do a video on the "forge" codes. My upper has the broken A. Also is the door on the solid stock plastic?

    I pounced on one of the 6520s within an hour of getting the promo email from CDNN that featured them. Mine actually came with mostly dead front and rear XS tritium night sights. Any idea what departments these Colts might have been used by?? Regarding carbines with fixed stocks, I actually like that configuration and my HD AR is set up that way.
