    Beautiful charcoal of Smeaton’s Pier and of course I love the pastel winterscape. Watching you draw with the charcoal is like watching magic happen. One second it’s scratches with a stick on paper then it simply morphs into a beautiful vision.

    Lovely charcoal drawing and pastel snow scene. Beautifully simple views captured with great tone quality and colour luminosity in the pastel study. Particularly like the sharp detailing around the end of the pier. The combination of the sound track and the sound of the working drawing coming to life with the placing of the figures was quite moving. Glad to hear you are staying clear of sharp blades. Cheers.

    Lovely drawing Andrew, you captured the scene perfectly. I like the tones and textures you get with the plywood and charcoal - good combination. Love the pastel too.

    Love your charcoal drawings, I’ve been experimenting with them… if you ever need material for a video could I request tips on drawing with charcoal? :)

    Both fabulous pictures Andrew. Quick question if I may… do you use a spray fixative on your completed charcoal drawings? If so, does it damage (smudge) any of the fine detail? I’d be interested in watching you demo your fixative application at some point, as I’m sometimes disappointed with the after affects of fixing my attempts. Hope your fingers heal up quickly. Best wishes, Mick.

      Hi Mick
      Thank you 🙏🏻
      I don’t fix these charcoal drawings anymore as I found it altered the marks too much. Storage is a problem though because they are so delicate

    Lovely little Drawing Andrew what do you use to fix the charcoal with when you frame them?

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thank you Keith. I won't fix it this time, it will go straight into a frame and be available for purchase at the Pastel Society exhibition in London January 2024 in a Sealed Bid Auction

    Hi Andrew ... charcoal is a messy endeavor ... like all the subtle details and good composition ... is it harder to work on board instead of paper? ... anyway the snow scene in pastel really nice with bluish purple tones for the shadows ...

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks Nancy - yes it harder to work on board but I like the effects. Paper gives a 'softer feel' which I also like for some subjects

  • @InkNSap

    Hi Andrew do you gesso the panels with something specific or buy them ready to paint?

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  Před 5 měsíci +1

      This was with a homemade chalk and glue gesso - I think a white gouache paint might work as well

      This particular drawing is on gessoed plywood. When using paper I like Arches hot pressed
