  • I discovered this method of tying a banded hair rig while watching a Paul Holland video and I've used the same way of tying ever since. The hair comes off the back of the hook really nicely and the band itself seems less likely to split.

    Check out his website where he also explains how to tie with larger diameter lines.

    Great knot and explanation much better than the one I use. I tried/tied it for the first time today, I think I may have accidentally made a slight improvement (it may have been done before) Before the whip I folded the tag end back to try and make some more room for the final pass through the eye and whipped over it along with the loop, the tag end is cut off close to the hair/loop rather than at the eye. I think it locks the loop with no chance it pulling free and the tag end is barely noticeable. Sorry if that's a bit long winded. Geoff

    Brilliant!!! Well explained. I’ve just tried this and done it first time. Thank you.

    Great explanation, I found for size 16 hooks, holding the tag end with forceps and letting them hang allows a gap big enough for the third pass through the eye.

    I've just tied some up this way using, hybrid power mono in 0.16mm or 6.60 lbs , Guru barbless size 16 QM1 hooks, Small Middy Latex Pellet Bait Bands 6mm to 14mm pellets, would recommend using these tackle items, great video guys 🇬🇧 ✊🏼

    Will it make a difference to the bait presentation or to the fish if I put a tiny bit of pole silicone rubber over the knot/eye of the hook to help the angle of the hook

    I just tied it using 0.17 guru Ngauge line with a 16 guru pellet waggler hook, and although it was finnicky, i did manage to pass the line through 3 times. It is def a lot lot neater with a 6mm coppens pellet in the band.thanks for the info.

    My goto way of tieing bands/quickstops now
    Works perfectly with Preston KKM-Bs and any diameter line (I use Matrix Power Micron X upto .018mm)

    I can't quite see which way you pass the line through thev2nd time, is it always through the back of the hook ?

    HI David, good video pls are the scissors any good for cutting braid if so where did you purchase them ,regards Terry.

    • @towyangling
      @towyangling  Před 6 lety

      Hi - I think they are an American fly tying scissor called Dr Slick. But I think braid scissors need to have a slight serrated edge to the blade so I do think they'd work. I've got an pair of ridge monkey braid scissors that are OK.

    I learned this method of tying watching Paul Hollands' video.....how do you pass the line 3 times through a Guru QM1 hook in their smaller sizes? I find twice is difficult!

    • @towyangling
      @towyangling  Před 5 lety

      Patrick walker it's not easy!! With the very small hooks there will be a limit to the diameter you can get away with

  • @tomspotley5733
    @tomspotley5733 Před 4 lety +1

    Is it possible to achieve this without passing the hair loop through the hook eye twice? Can you keep one end loose held against the shank of the hook and trap it with the knot less knot?
    Only reason I ask is that the eyes on my hooks are small and only allow the line to be passed through twice total.

    I think you would have to sacrifice line diameter to be able to use this rig.

    I've seen different sizes of bands, what size pellets would you use for the band you have in this video? i've seen much smaller bands.

    • @towyangling
      @towyangling  Před 6 lety

      cns180784 hi - these are 4mm diameter bands. You could hold 4mm but I tend only use 6&8mm pellets. I got them off eBay so not 100% the make.

      Cheers. which hooks of size 16 would you recommend i use for tying these banded hair rigs? would you say the Guru MWG barbless ones would be good? i have those but in size 14 for hair rigs that i tied (normal hair rigs without bands).

    • @towyangling
      @towyangling  Před 6 lety

      The MWG would be fine. I use the B911, QM1, pellet waggler or the LWG

      Cheers. We have some freezing weather coming this weekend. I plan to fish next Wednesday, it should start to get mild by Tuesday do you think it'll be tough? and would it be worth taking pellets? I'm thinking just bread, pinkies and sweetcorn but I'm not sure. Looking to fish a very small one acre lake only about 5 foot deep at the most. Theres' another lake which gets to about 11 foot deep so I'm not sure what to do.

    • @towyangling

  • @MrUpinthewater

    I notice you are using 0.13 line. This way of tying a band would be very difficult when using 0.19 and 0.22. I use te same patterns as you, and find it a bit hard getting the line through twice on the diameters i just mentioned, but on a positive, this is the first time I seen it done this way, and it is def a lot lot tidier..

    *Perfect size hook for hatchery catfish that weigh between 3-5 lbs. my lip hook almost all the time unless your bait is very much desired by the fish>>> **allabout.wiki/1004** It's very durable made from hardened steel, I believe. You can use it over and over. It never rusts in my tackle bag. I use a knot less snell with a 25 lb mono filament leader line from Kastking for this hook. Its point is very sharp and can easily land a thieving fish. We landed many catfish with this hook. Best purchased in packs of 25 which should last you throughout the season.*

    • @towyangling

      There are a number of tools on the market but I trap the band against the pellet with my nail and then stretch it over.
