- There was huge drama in the Dwars door Vlaanderen as several of the big hitters were involved in a "nightmarish" crash, including Wout van Aert (Visam-Lease-a-Bike), Mads Pedersen (Lidl-Trek) and Biniam Girmay (Intermarche-Wanty). Van Aert required medical attention after hitting the deck and was forced to abandon the race.

Hearing Wout cry makes me sad.
Nightmarish indeed. I'm absolutely gutted for everyone involved, especially knowing how in good shape those riders were. Chapeu to Jorgensen for staying composed and delivering an impressive result regardless.
Idk I don't like him so much tbh
@@Lion-wd1px You don't have to like him to applaud his achievement :>
@@marius3552 ur right negativity gets me nowhere actually
@@Lion-wd1px Indeed :D
Wout crying, so sad.

0:24 the realisastion of the visma/ lease a bike rider who's trying to grab his hair trough his helmet, knowing WVA crashed horrible
i've done my collarbone and it f&&king hurts, I was quiet but the ambulance man said there were tears streaming down my face and gave me the choice of having morphine, which took the edge off. If I hit the deck the speed Wout was going and lost as much skin as he did and broke my collarbone and ribs believe me I'd be bawling for my mother.
I'm sure it hurt like F but I'll bet he was crying due to his main season goal going down the tubes... all that effort and build up... poof gone.
@@johnandrews3568crying of pain
I'm so sorry for that. Really horrible crash. Wish all riders to recover and be healthy.
I watch all these races to watch Wout trying to win. Such a great competitor. So sad. There's always next year . . .
He will still race later this year but sadly his Classics season is over and possibly also he won’t be in the Giro.
@@epincion So are we expecting Vingegaard to take over giro and go head to head with Pogi?
@@gerdkerman9849 no
No. Wrong. That’s not wva way.
This year: this yr he has oly worlds vuelta
Do you give up too easily ?
@@paulsolon6229 He has a fractured collar bone, fractures of 7 ribs and a fractured sternum. That will take time to heal and trying to ride competitively too early will delay healing
Sinds Paris Roubaix of last year I couldn’t but help to think about the morality of cycling. Knowing the work and sacrifice the Reinders put in for the race, for the fans knowing the risk they are taking. Sadly Gino has shown the no one is safe from the ultimate price of the sport.
When looking at races such as de Ronde or Paris-Roubaix it does feel like watching gladiolus not only competing against wacht other but also battling faith itself. When I saw the image of the fall of dwars door Vlaanderen I could help to think about all the loved ones watching their partner, sons and dad screaming in tears and gasping for help. I wish everyone a good recovery and mental strength to overcome this day.
broken collarbone is painful. I wish Wout a speedy recovery.
It's much worse. Also 7 broken ribs and broken breastbone.
@@TheMusicGuard Damn. I broke 6 ribs in multiple pieces and punctured my right lung when I broke my right clavicle 5 years ago. That breastbone is going to hurt sleeping. I am keeping Wout in my prayers.
I broke mine in two places..it stuck out three inches...did not bother me at all...todays riders are just spoiled

@@TheMusicGuard if that is the case I doubt he will be back and in shape for months
Broken collarbone and fractured ribs. So tough for Wout, as he will be out for a while. Hope everyone else is okay and can get back to it soon as well.
OMG nasty crash today 😢
😢 Speedy recovery to all....
Falls at all times and with all cyclists are unfortunate.
Now will come the cheap comments about ketones (food supplements) and Visma. Matteo Jorgenson was already very notable in Movistar, important escapes in high mountains where he did not reach him. If he went to Visma it is because he was mentally prepared to change, improve and learn the committed and professional way of training that Domoulin spoke so much about. In addition to not paying from their salary for material, recovery and correct professional nutrition.
Just as today Tiejs Bennot helped him in a great way for the victory, and Wilco Kelderman supported him in Paris-Nice, it is something that he would never find in the Telefónica team. I am happy about Stefan Küng's podium because he is always on the run but very rarely has rewards. Unlucky to give in at the most important moment was Alberto Betiol.
Damn that really sucks.
Shit... well no more point to watching Spring classics... see you back in a few months WVA
Any word on Pedersen, Stuyven, Philipsen, Girmay etc?
Stuyven broke his collar bone too pedersen is ok grimay couldnt talk but i think he broke nothing
Phillipsen didn't crash. That was one of his teammates.
@@Tibovlthat’s a shame . He’s 5he worst rider of them all.
@@Tibovl Gianni Vermeersch, they said.
@@peterneumann7145 If you wish for people to crash you don't deserve the air you breathe. Disgusting.
Horrible for all involved in the crash, particularly Wout. Heal up fast, guys! But WTF to Eurosport for an interview with Kung and yet you ignore Abrahamsen's second place, an amazing achievement for Uno-X. C'mon man
Tiesj Benoot thought he took Wout down but the crash happened a bit behind and the flying bike hit his rear tire.
Tiesj didn't cause it.
The road was not even - like a sloping gutter.
Right away I saw that and figured that is the cause
Dam man you got to feel for him, his had some bad falls!!
The guy wins Paris-Nice and it is not enough to qualify for the Olympics. Coming from Vanuatu, with no racing experience, you might. What an interesting world we live in.
WvA unlikely to be a factor at Il Giro
I expect him to not go to the Giro.
thats very sad...the classics need Wout van Aert to be in it as a superpro!
I hope he can come back soon van aert.
Unless he’s careful and forces his breathing those fractured ribs won’t heal rt and he will have diminished lung capacity.
He’s come back already once from massive injury to his leg on stupid dangerous tour fence w legs that jut out.
Now he crashes here in part of course precisely where there was crash last year, and this year pre race discussion to alter course there. But they didn’t, they left it in
😢😢😢😢
Wout vanart sorry 😢
Gate wall soon Wout vanart you're the best
Next time you ride your bike, imagine what it would be like going 40kph (30mph) and flipping over the bars wearing a thin lycra suit and hitting the deck. Oh, the pain!
II’d bet it’s more so the disappointment and emotions knowing that his classic season is over and all his preparation was for nothing having even giving up on his cross season for it.
It looked like they were pushing and it was flat so 50+kmh maybe
@@IsaNiklison9850 They were on the descend and were going aprox 65 kph, absolute horror and wish everyone involved all the best.
more like 60km/h
@@JazzyJeffr0yeah everyone even says between 70-80
Wout 😢😢😢
This was a bad one man
Jonas Vindegaard has benefitted massively from this as WVA won't make the Giro, he'll recover and go TDF in support of Jonas.
It’s shit now Flanders and roubaix will not be anywhere near as exciting- don’t know why he had to do that stupid race
Can you blame Van Aert ? He wants to reach goals, which is a mindset of life.
Noooooo!!
💔💔💔
If MVDP does not win Flanders this Sunday, it will be the biggest letdown in history. He just had the race delivered on a silver platter.

A rider can’t stand up when in a pack!
Oh, f*ck! 😮
Disc brakes grip faster and more quietly than rim brakes; just one tight grip can bring a follower into the rear triangle of any "brakeman" ahead.
We haven't heard a cause yet, but I've read enough comments from racers, pro or amateur.
A bit of a ridiculous comment to be honest.
@@dermotbarry-murphy9451
"Valentin Madoaus: "Since we have disc brakes, you can't see the danger coming because we're always going at a speed higher than 60 km/h, so close together. At the smallest mistake, it's sure that we're all on top of each other."

(After yesterday's carnage in the Basque Tour)
@@ZENmudI get that but the ridiculous part for me was this comment was made with zero knowledge of what caused this specific crash.
And to be honest someone grabbing a handful of a rim brake in the dry could be just as consequential.

Yes, also out for roubaix

Broken collarbone and multiple broken ribs, so yes, he's confirmed out for all remaining Spring classics. I would be surprised if he can make the Giro as well. At this point, it's just about recovering and hoping to make something of the rest of the year.
About two or three weeks ahead of Tadej's wrist last year; he didn't race until TdF or something in late June...
They need to start requiring football style shoulder pads!
I know there are cycling helmets on the market that have airbags in them for a few years by now. Always wondered why they don't use them in the peloton. Maybe the pro riders descending speeds are too high for the airbag which may set them off, Idk 🤷♂

What a pointless and avoidable and stupid crash. Plenty of road... dry weather... WTF? They need to start analyzing these videos and finding the culprits and suspending and/or banning them from races for reckless behavior. Careers can be ended. Lives can be lost.
noob comment
they want to be as close as possible to the riders infront so they get maximum draft, they take the risk on purpose to save energy but any tiny mistake and they all go down.
You do see the road riser that caused the crash, yea? It was pretty tall, there wasnt enough time to see or react to it that deep in the peloton and was more than enough to send you flying if you hit it wrong. Bad luck, certainly understandable why it occurred though.
Lastimável!
