  • I love the concept of the boss. I hate the weather - I've lost so many no-hit attempts to lightning from behind, ice/wind when I land after a dodge. Then there's that quick attack it does when hit anywhere except six-oclock.
Can't say that my methods are consistent - I should've been hit by a couple of gambles. I gamble because this boss has a timer. After 3(?) elemental shifts, it gains the ability to use all elements in one form.
Luckily it doesn't seem to have plenty of poise. I guess most of the meta stuff will work on it (stack heave poise damage+bleed/frost.) I've personally gotten him to as low as 30% in phase 1 by triggering bleed before he gets staggered and after the critical hit.
0:25 The biggest, most consistent opening I could find in phase 1. Dodge forward, walk left, dodge forward, run to the left and attack once, jump the breath attack, then run behind for 2 attacks, and roll out. A third attack is risky.
0:50 When he raises his head, dodge forward early, and you get rewarded with an opening for a running attack.
With lightning and ice elements, it is no longer safe to dodge the same way as in base element. I swap to range attacks, but there are some openings where I swap back to melee, mostly for poise damage.
1:11 This is a godsend in any of these elemental phases. Allows me to swap back to melee to get some damage in. However, I was VERY lucky that all he did was shoot lightning after taking a hit to the face.
1:24 Dodging through this will get you hit with lightning AS YOU LAND, so I jump back. The lightning strikes seem to intentionally punish rolling, so I add running jumps when I back away.
1:55 Frost stomp can be easily jumped
1:58 I have no idea how I didn't get hit by ice after my dodge. I've beaten him with this one move as my single hit. I guess being close helps.
2:23 Wind phase is easier, but that wind can still roll-catch. This is one of the safe openings, I notice he doesn't counter right after this move.

This boss was hell to beat for me due to framerates dropping (i play elden ring on the PS4). What're your thoughts on the bosses in the dlc as a whole l?

@@yoman5029 sucks to hear that man. I hope future patches help with the fps.
I can't say just yet. I'm taking my time exploring the world so I havent met many major bosses. Based only on my experience with Rellana, Dancing Lion, and Bayle - I'm having a blast.

Dropping a line since I've beaten the last boss. Still a couple optional ones left, but I think the difficulty of the bosses in the DLC is way overblown. Some are more difficult than the ones in the base game, but nothing impossible or unfair as the people claim them to be. In my experience, I only count Metyr as borderline bad, due to normally undodgeable, unblockable, BS. Messmer seemed too weak for the hype he got, but he's one of, if not the best, fights in the DLC. The final boss was ok, but needed more spectacle.
