  • I've been using this Sound System for my SOLO gigs for the past year or so and these are my thoughts... If you have any questions feel free to ask.
    PS when ever you hear me saying the word 'satellite' I'm talking about the top speaker column that goes on the extender pole.

    This guy is cool. Sounds excellent and not pretentious. With hair he's got the Bublee look and shaved the young DMB look. That RCF is a bit pricey for me and heavy. Plus they really don't carry that brand around here. Went from Yamaha stagepas 1k (sounds great. Still use for blues band main) to JBL EON ONE MK2 for acoustic gigs. Stagepas is over 50lbs. Was too much in 95 degree heat with stairs, dolly, etc. JBL is lighter. Has battery and on-board digital mixer. Real sub. They all sound similar, it's just a matter of what features one needs for one's own situation. How many trips from the car can I avoid??? That 87A mic sounds good for him. I tried it. Great at home, but live outdoors maybe I didn't know how to dial it in. It's hard to get it all right live when one a "solo" guy. No one to ask so you start to look for subtle clues from the audience. Not the drunk lady yelling for hotel california. The subtle foot tap under the table is the one I watch for. If a majority of folks are moving their feet under the table its sounding good and tips flow. No foot movement. I've screwed something up. I think guy would sound good through anything though.

    I have a pair of the Evox 8's, the first generation which have 12 inch subs in wood cabinet's and have been using them for about a 1 1/2 year's. I use a Presonus 32r stage box run wirelessly using a router and my iPad and run a full 5 piece rock cover band. This system can kick at 1400 watts a side they can get loud if you push them. I was told that you want to set the subs at about 2 o'clock, not wide open. I also do a duo act with our keyboard player and I just use a di box with my Taylor acoustic and it sounds great! It takes me about 15 minutes to setup our whole system. If the subs are boomy just use a high pass filter on the subs and roll some of it off. Will clean up the muddiness of your mix!

      Now that's makes a lot of sense, I am very skeptic when it comes to pa systems, for last 8 years I have been using the Dynacord P5 system, with my 4 piece band, the tops speakers come with 400w cones which I exchanged for 800w in each cab, great sound but man I'm getting old and sick of hauling gear and heavy pa systems, from what I'm told the best of goods comes in small packages, the system jmix8 sounds very impressive and well sold here, above all other line array evolve 50 etc I think it's the one I'll go for, and sell the Dynacord Power max P5
      But I'm afraid if I get a wedding of over 300 guests indoors jmix 8 will not handle it, especially with bass and drums of the keyboards going through it,
      So yes I'm still in limbo here on what to do, technology has come a long long way over the last 10 years since the power max 5 by Dynacord,
      Perhaps the jmix8 set is actually better than it, so many ????? hang over this big step to take or stick with what I have, your set up sounds amazing especially a 5 piece rock band, so it can't be all that bad 🤔👍

    • @stuartreeceband
      @stuartreeceband  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Julian, I have not used the EV myself but have heard it’s top class. It is more expensive but The ‘top/column’ height can be an issue because its a fixed height. (You can’t raise it higher when you to get over people in a crowded room) That being said I don’t think you’d be dissatisfied with the EV. It ticks all the boxes. I have been using a Bose L1 Pro 8 for 3 months. For what I do I don’t think there is anything better

      If I had to choose 1 I’d choose the Jmix. It’s louder and having a quality mixer built into the column gives it 2 up on the HK. That being said I’d be happy with either. I’ve never used the FBT but I know its a quality brand.
      TurboSound iP1000 or 2000 are also good options to consider. Let me know what you end up going with 😎

      That said, I'd be more than happy with 1 JMIX8 if that was my only choice.
      It's got a more versatile mixer with more channels and in a rowdy environment it will be a lot louder than 2 x S1's.

    • @stuartreeceband
      @stuartreeceband  Před 3 lety +2

      The Bose sounds ‘better’ for guit and vox only - more natural and clear but its not that powerful. I’d say its good for background music / lite entertainment and busking where the Evox is powerful and can handle much bigger spaces and more instruments comfortably. (And also sounds great) . If I could only choose one, I’d take the Evox.

    What pedal are you using for your kick drum

    • @stuartreeceband
      @stuartreeceband  Před 3 lety

      I'm using the boss RC30 Loopstation. I saved a single kick drum sound to one of the patches (You can do this by plugging it into your computer, opening the loop station storage and adding the WAV file of your choice)
      Here is the trick, I made that particular patch on the loop station a 'one shot playback' meaning every time I hit the play pedal my kick drum sound plays once.

  • @davem5403
    @davem5403 Před 2 lety

    Thank you for the info. Next time could you use a quality digital recorder for the sound test portion?
    Use the 1/4" monitor, headphone or XLR output and record that since we really can't tell anything from a cell phone recording in mono that isn't designed for high fidelity. Like using a VHS VCR to review HD or 4k movies. That gives us a clean original signal to compare to.
    Then switch over to the live sound version from the speaker and record it on a decent mic /stereo digital recorder or
    or use one with it's own mics such as a Tascam Tascam DR-100mk3 (Zoom or others with good mics) placed 5-10 yards away. That Tascam has XLR inputs, 1/4"inputs and and several sets of mics onboard that work quite well.
    Then we'd be able to really hear what it sounds like vs the source signal.

    What drum set up do you have

    • @stuartreeceband
      @stuartreeceband  Před 4 lety +3

      I have a kick drum sound saved as a 'one shot playback' on my loop station. The One Shot Playback Setting means it will play the loop from start to finish only once. IE Every time I stomp on the loop pedal the loop is triggered to play once, and in this instance it plays the kick drum once. If I stomp the pedal again it starts the loop again and plays the kick drum again, but once. So if I continually stomp the loop station over and over it continues to play the kick drum over and over. You can save many different kick drum sounds or other percussive sounds. Perhaps I should do a short video on this as well...
