For anyone wondering, this song is about separation. Nanna, the female singer, has stated that it is about her brother - the king, and herself - the lionheart.
According to an statement from OMAM, "The song was written after her brother left with their father to Canada, leaving her and her mother behind in Iceland. She missed her brother and wished they could’ve grown up together."
*So i take it that the official video, in a fantasy, world depicts it.*
The kingdom falling apart - as the divorce of her parents.
The girl running after her brother - as how she missed her brother.
The monsters and bad guys - they could be negative emotions that appeared after her brother left *or,* a way to show how the world felt "evil" after she split up with her brother *or,* just be there as characters in that fantasy world.

Back when the top of the comments had the poor couple who lost a child to a heart defect. I'm not sure how comments work on CZcams but who the hell wants to knock that story down a peg?

Such a sad topic :(. My heart goes out to Ms. Nanna. I have had similar struggles with my divorce and with my relationship with my children. I cannot pretend to understand what it feels like to be separated from a sibling. My children were my life, and when I choose to give up custody of them, it broke something inside of me (soz for venting). There is a saying that your sibling/s is the person that you will know the longest in your life. I choose to move away from my family of origin and am now living back with them to take care of my parents. I am now getting to know my brother after being gone for over 20 years, and we are very different people. My hope for you is that you are able to continue being you. My prayer for you is that you be the best you that you can be, and my wish for you is that if you ever meet your brother, you treat him with love, kindness, and respect.

K so here is the rub I have now been up to date with Icelandic music for a while now though bjork jonsi/Alex now of monsters and men I can say I personally know descendants from Iceland I know that they have few things to fill their time and music and art are in abundance their I love and respect their culture and would love to just sit and talk to them!!!

After two siblings have been separated because of a divorce, they try to reconnect with one another. They insist that they're still the same people they were before the divorce but as the sister grew older, she changed (which is what I believe those floaty animals represented. Since she lost her animal and her brother didn't.) Because of this, they are unable to reform the bond they once had.

She then finds a monster which she didn't kill because she knew that was his brother (or son), you can tell because she was happy to see him and she didn't kill it off.
but this song is about her brother, most of people know about it. if you check the lyrics, she is telling about the folklore you can hear in Iceland, in the same time, you can notice she misses him and even far away, she won't leave or forget him

I lost my brother to a freak accident in August 2017, it’s coming up on that time of year, the Holidays always hit the hardest without him and my Grandmother. This song brings memories of 14 year old me struggling in secondary school with self confidence and finding myself, just fighting through everyday and holding a fake smile to get through - I remember playing this song and ‘Little Talks’ after school all the time and it made everything so much better, still gives me chills hearing it now🙌🌟

They seriously don't have a bad song. Lol I saw an article called "where are they now"....you know like they do for bands from like the 80s lol. Their last album was in 2019 and was great. Somehow their music just feels Norse inspired, I can't put a finger on it but even without the imagery of their videos it feels Norse Pagan. And I love it. And they have the emotional storytelling that I am.just stunned by, especially not being American they speak to a lot of emotion that comes from the despair of being American.

In my somewhat cynical view of the world I think it may involve a fancy musical note algorithm ran on a bank of supercomputers inputting sounds to a bank of disembodied human brains. The real genius to the whole diabolical scheme is to accurately track higher levels of dopamine in the brains(disembodied and all) when a favorable note sequence is found. They say imitation is they highest form of flattery. I disagree I think being compared to the diabolical schemes fueled by corporate greed is the highest. :-P

I have a daughter and a son. My daughter, now 13 was stricken with the most severe form of Autism there is. My son was given all the best gifts life has to offer. My daughter will never speak. The bad guys in this video was the bad hand she was dealt. My son is her king, and she will forever be his Lionheart. Even if she never breaks free.
This song is meant to be about a brother and sister who were separated during a war. The older sister goes to look for her brother after she escapes her prison. She finds out he has been killed (the thing taking him away in the music video) and accepts that she is going to be killed and reunited with her brother. (This is all assumptions I think this is what happened)

I read a theory online about how the Little Talks video is a continuation of this, years later. The two had a metamorphosis that I suspect comes with their species and the sister is the main spirit/entity that guides the four men across the lands and away from danger. Then she is reunited with her brother who has become a giant beast thing because of whatever happened on that ship...but anyways they're reunited. I like to think some backup for this claim is that the sister's clothing makeup and look is similar to the spirit in the Little Talks video.

I remember that my daughter was about 12 when this first came out, and we were dealing with the total breakdown of our family, so to try to soften the pain of our situation, we spent a lot of time together, reading, listening to music (the discovery of OMAM was one of the brightest lights during a really dark time), and I watched her play a lot of video games. I remember how much I used to think of ICO when this would come on, especially when I saw the video. It still can make me cry because I know that nothing is forever, but it makes me feel brave as well because I have faced that too and mostly prevailed.

I can understand the divorce metaphore and the siblings being separated. In the minute 1:46 it shows the fight between the men of the same army and the boy looking sad and dissapointed, as a kid would look at their parents when they argue. The first time I watched this video I automatically asumed they were brother and sister, it just gives that feeling.

My father showed me this song years ago, and we listened to it like crazy. But times changed. I lost the song after a while. It's been years since I've last heard it, and I only ever remembered the music video until today when my father showed it to me again when we were in the car. I immediately looked it up on CZcams and realized what song it was. I've never felt like I've known a song my whole life and never listened to it before, but I did today. I forgot about the lyrics and beat of the song, but when I listened to it today, it felt like my whole soul knew this song like the back of my hand. It was honestly kinda magical.

After learning this was about her separation from her brother just...made me tear up so much. I was also separated from my brother with special needs after a divorce and only within the last year have learned about him. I wish we could have grown up together, too. He was so special to me, even though he isn't able to speak well or behave similarly. He's the whole reason I decided to work in special ed; to help kids like him.

I lost a lover back in 2015 due to his family’s disapproval of me. They didn’t agree with their son dating a single mother of 2(at that time 5 and -1 years old) He left for the military and never looked back. I heard this song around that time and I mourned for him for years on after :(
Unfortunately I’m back in the same boat with a different lover. His family also caught wind that I’m a single mother of two and they instantly shunned our love for each other. He is also leaving for the military and I am now in a new understanding. I deserve someone that CAN defend me and my children’s honor. There is nothing wrong with having a past. It does not define who I am. Whatever belongs to me will come to me and never leave me alone. This music is extremely beautiful and feels so nostalgic to listen to. I love the video because I perceive the girl and boy as friends (rather than siblings idk just bear with my analogy) and these two friends are trying so hard to be united again they jump off cliffs for eachother but at the end somehow remain distant.
And this personally is some type of allegory for what's going in my life (college wise) my friend and I are trying so hard to go to a university in the same country at least but nothing's working out. And so I'm left to watch her leave while life (similar to the evil creatures in the video) drains me down.

I remember watching this music video (I am 99% sure it's the music. It matches what I remember somewhat). I miss the times when the only way I was able to find music was either through people I knew, radio, or music videos on channels like (MUCH and MTV. Unfortunately, I never bothered to write those songs down. Took me years to find most of the songs I listened to when I was 10 and under.
Off-topic. Bothers me how I remember doing all these things as a child, taking them for granted. I never thought in those moments,
I would still remember them. Too bad I don't have more memories of people who passed away in my life. I am worried when I am older, (70+) I will just end up looking back at my life regretting things I did and taking things for granted (already do that now at 20. I can't imagine the emotional pain that awaits me at 70. It would only get worse from there). I swear these thoughts only occur to me at night. Going stop myself from going on a long tangent.

Ever since 2018 I play this this song during take-off every time I fly from my home country to where I’m living now. Even after 5 years I still keep doing this. My family and especially my mother were my lionheart, they raised me, made me the man I am today and got me ready for the life abroad and how to settle in a new life there due to how bad life is in my home country. I start tearing every time I hear this song during take-off because I know I’m alone out there now and I have to be the lionheart this time and face all the struggles life throw at me. It makes me realize how unfair life can be when it forces you to be away from your loved ones
