Great job man!! Saved me a big PITA. I noticed my remote start taking longer than usual to start my truck. I tried to start it last Friday and it wouldn't start at all. I know my ignition key had been getting unusually warm recently, so I assumed it was an ignition switch problem. I ordered a new ignition switch, then I saw this video. I pulled the relay and was getting ready to jump across the connections, while watching the video on my phone, then tried the trailer relay and my truck started right up. Thank you!!
Oh man, this saved me $350 and a few hours of fighting with a new starter! Truck wouldn't start this morning so I pulled the relay and used the wire to jump it and it turned right away. Swapped the relay and it fired right up!!
Thanks for helping me diagnose my no start issue. Being able to test the starter without potentially wasting time removing it first made me feel better about what the true problem is.

Its a great way to pre-oil your motor before startup after a rebuild, or in my case after turbo replacement. Let it crank until the gauge shows pressure for a few seconds, do it twice then fire her up with full confidence that everything is lubed and ready to run.

@@12riveradavid I just figured out my work truck, the fuel pump prime relay wasn't making contact. Pulled it out halfway and it made contact, allowing engine to start. Fuse panel must need to be changed from moisture/salt causing corrosion.
2018 chev silverado. Needed a boost day before. Then had a new battery installed. Drove all day, numerous starts. Sat for an hour after dinner, clicking sound... no start.

This was great info. My problem is switched relays and no start. Hot wire jumper at relay terminals as shown in video and engine turned over. Then I replaced the relay and truck started repeatedly. Any idea what was the cause for the original no start
Hii...hey i saw your video because a little problem with my 2018 chevy silverado 1500 5.3L hybrid....the starter wont stopped turning....i was checking the pins as you explained on the video....but in the white pin it supposed to carry power to the stater....well in this truck that pin have ground all the time and i can't figure out why....the other three pins are the same as you explained but this one...i changed the starter by a new one and still doing the same thing
Having an issue where sometimes it will start sometimes there’s nothing at all, weird part is if I roll the window down and back up it will start 99% of the time, have a feeling it’s the bcm FML
Having the same problem, it will start sometimes then randomly won’t start with no crank or nothing . Then go back hours later and it starts right up . Have you found the issue ?
I get how you tested it, but I can’t get over the fact that you seem to be connecting pin 86 to 87. From everything I read, pin 86(red) is the one that would receive power when trying to start the vehicle. So I’m not sure how your test works but I know it does because I saw another video do the same thing… so confused.

@@jasonprather1736 yes I did thank you it ended up being my starter and then today I took and had to replace the battery I had lost a cell in the battery and I was getting the same occurrence as before sounded like the starter was engaging but would not start power throughout the whole thing my initial thoughts were the starter again I ended up getting the alternator battery and the starter tested this time and it was a battery due to a low cell
@@jasonprather1736 I do know I was told check out the crankshaft position sensor that's right above the starter you had to take the starter off to get to it fortunately I did not have to go that far they are relatively easy it's just getting to it it's a pain in the butt
I have the same truck and the same issue - ended up being a battery that wasn’t producing enough cranking apps but still powered everything else normally. That was two years ago and today it wouldn’t start again. I tested this method and changing the relay didn’t help, fuse is intact, so it could be the battery again.

Here's one for you sooner the better response.... I've got a gmc2500hd 2018 pickup remote started fine this am. U locked it and hopped in tried to turn key and was hard as a rock can't turn it like something's locked it... Remote started again was fine.... What the hell is going on the steering wheel lock mechanism is fine as removed top cover and lower steer cover??? I've about tried everything and still can't get the key to go anywhere have original and spare.. same thing with either of them... Please help I'm out of ideas....

probably wont get an answer before i get home from work today but i have an issue where i have 12V+ in my batter (seen on my voltmeter in my dash), go to turn the key and everything dies. not sure if im looking at a starter issue (normally theres a clicking with starter problems and i dont have the clicking sound) or if its as simple as needing a new relay. ill check when i get beck to my truck but ive never encountered a full dead reaction when the battery isnt actually dead...
My problem is sometimes it cranks and sometimes it’s great. It started doing this after charging a tool in my accessory outlet on the dash. I thought maybe a cell was bad in the battery but 75% of the time it’s great. Acts as tho the starter is engaged by a capacitor that’s charged to engage the starter but may be going bad because of not turning over at times. Could it be the relay?

@adamwhatley1120 I did! It turned out my starter was bad. Then, In the process of replacing it, I somehow damaged the plastic wire connector that connects to the starter. It had no visible damage, and still connected fine. I think the wire must have gotten pulled back or somehow wasn't making contact. I found a video where the guy said the plastic connectors fail/break constantly. He went on to show how to do-away with the connector, and add a basic terminal ring connection instead. It was very easy to do. So turns out my starter failed. Then I broke the plastic wire connector. I cut that off, added a ring terminal connection. New starter. Back in business. Good luck!

So I assume that the battery is dead. Took it to get tested, they said it's junk. So I bought a battery, same issue, just clicked. So I found this video. Tried the first thing, that didn't work. Jumped the relay and it clicked. So I just kept doing that like 5x. Bow it turns and starts. Probably the starter, right?
This literally happened with me. Everything you stated. I got home with the new battery. A few hours later, I remote started my truck (2017 Silverado) and it had a slow start but it started. I thought that was interesting, so I turned off the truck and tried to use my key. Now all lights come on but when I got to turn it. Just a click and nothing else...
@Kingdom_Comics yep. It was the starter for me. Literally when it did it the 1st time I had 37000 miles on it. Gm said, we don't cover that. I have random screws falling out of the dash and I think the trans gonna give up soon

I took it to firestone to get tires on it when I went to pick it up no crank no start they put a new battery in it and they said the starter was bad they put a new starter on it I drove it home the next morning got in it and tried to start it no crank no start again I know the battery is good and the battery took out was good. 😮do you have any suggestions.

My starter connections were loose 2018 Silverado 39,000 miles.would not start, pulled back the wheel well and tighten the connection with 13mm.

All my fuses checked out so it must be the park sensor. Put it in nutural and it fired right up. Oh an the alternator had went out at 20k miles wtf?

Switched my ground wire to the one next to it. Had to pull the bolt and attach it in that empty spot. Started up immediately. How silly

Wow my spare tire is not hooked up to tire pressure and.myctruck is having trouble starting but when I jump it it starts.
