    Very interesting video Andy , myself and my wife were hoping to retire out in Tenerife/ Spain in about 6 years time so we are desperate for something to happen regarding the freedom of movement rule by then . I did kind of get the vibe that the other guy seemed quite happy that we could only come for 90 days at a time , I’m sure it would be a different scenario if he had jump through the hoops we currently have to . Keep up the good work 🤙

    One thing about Brexit that wasn’t touch on was that the British have moved on to nicer and better places where they are treated better, there is also better places to buy property rather than the canaries or in Spain as the bureaucracy and over complicating things, it’s more expensive for flights as well plenty of discussion left I thank. Brexit didn’t kill the canaries

    Brexit is a typical discussion topic over a drink so quite apt that you interviewed at the Vault. Shame it wasn’t live though and as you would have got many drinks ordered for you! Interesting and good information.
    Sadly, Brexit was miss-sold and miss-managed with a lack of information of the true impacts in lots of things and many people voted to leave not understanding the long term impacts to their own travel freedoms and choices. I’m sure many regret now. It has also crushed opportunities for youngsters in the future wishing to experience work and life in other countries. Thanks for sharing.

    A point worth mentioning is that if you exceed the 90 days in the last 180 days (assuming UK passport, ie non EU) you are tantamount to being an alien (illegal immigrant) in Spain. So I would strongly warn against anyone trying to go over the limit. You might get banned from entry for 2/3 years.

      Non EU citizens such as UK, Canada, USA, NZ, Australia can retire in Spain. Best type of visa is called Non Lucrative Vias (NLV). With NLV you cannot work in Spain and must have enough pension, rental and/or investment (passsive) income to meet the NLV requirements. I believe for a single person its about €27k perb annum. Also for NLV you need private health insurance. The NLV is valid for 1 yr initally with two subsequent renewals of 2 yrs each. After 5 yrs on an NLV visa you can apply for residencia de larga duracion which is valid for 5 yrs and basically is same as any EU citzen living in Spain.

    English tourism was the highest a few years ago, so I recognize thanks to some English, we saved our economy a little when the big crisis came, and more things similar. You should rethink about a 'Brex-in', now that Elizabeth 2nd has passed away (she was for staying in the EU), RIP.

    I think the origin of the problem with FOM was it became very imbalanced especially after the former communist countries were allowed access to the U.K labour market ,Depressed wages and rocketing house prices and rents meant lots of families at the lower end of the pay scale struggled to afford a house let alone a second one in spain.

    • @tsuchan
      @tsuchan Před rokem +2

      And yet the UK is economy is still suffering from a shortage of staff. Their economy can't grow, because there aren't the people to do the work. British companies are importing more because they can't get the staff to do the work in the UK, or get drivers to deliver it to their customers. In some farms, food has been left to rot in the fields, while in other cases farmers have just reduced the amount of food they grow and livestock they rear. The NHS and social care providers can't get the staff they need either.
      The reason for rocketing house prices and rents (and for that matter shortage of schools, surgeries and utilities) is because the UK government has not managed the provision of housing stock and services; and yet they have successfully sold gullible British people the yarn that it was the fault of immigrants. I would give a hug to every Polish, Bulgarian and Estonian worker for coming to the UK to work hard, pay their taxes and help to build the British economy. Now, more-and-more of them are doing work that benefits EU Members instead, where they get a welcome and can work easily.
      And plenty of British employers, like myself, have relocated into the new borders of the EU, taking away the jobs and the tax revenues from the UK and bringing them to the EU... increasing UK imports, increasing EU exports. Is that a good thing for the British economy, would you say?

    So far I have not seen any benefits of Brexit, there have only been negatives. Boris Johnson signed off on the Brexit agreement and there are issues with the NI Protocol; so much so that power sharing can't commence in part of the UK. Many employment sectors can't fill the job vacancies they have as they are unable to find staff from the UK willing to do the work. And it has affected a generation of Brits and future generations who would like to spend their retirement in a warmer climate having worked for decades.

    • @tsuchan
      @tsuchan Před rokem +1

      Yes, but there are benefits from Brexit... you're just considering only from the British side. There have been lots of Brexit benefits for the remaining EU countries (although whether it has been a _net_ positive is arguable). I think it may well be. It also improves the chance of Irish unification and Scottish independence, which many would chalk-up as a positive. It has definitely resulted in the EU being better understood and valued by citizens of every other Member state.
