How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a CZcams channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.
Ryan, I’m not a GM guy but those videos from the drone while the tractor drives by and loading the bales are amazing! They should be in a commercial! Great videos and your nephew is too cute! Good luck this year, hope mother nature cooperates.
The little guy in the JCB at 13:20 "I see we are being followed, but I'm saying nothing." 😁Cute.👍
Definitely would recommend wrapping the oats as high moisture balage.
Apparently CZcams hasn't processed this video even after several hours. Come back later to see it in it's 4K 60FPS greatness!
definitely will watch again....360p sucks lol
@@towman123 Worst part is I can't tell if it's been processed from my phone or not
I am seeing this in 1440p60 now
Wow looks good thanks for the video
They are too busy trying to ban the 'alt-right' right now.
Oat silage seems like a good idea. Dairy cows always did well on fresh chopped green oats.
I think your Dad really likes the JCB, would be cool to hear his opinion on it.
Good idea on the video update
Was thinking the exact same thing! Also think it would be nicew to here all 3 of you talk about using bale spikes on it.
Great times with uncles and grandpa. ❤️❤️
17:02 The cows are all, what a tease. Lol
Nice video Ryan! Love seeing hay made.
Thanks Tim!
Great video Ryan! I loved watching the hay bailing!! The machinery you are using is so cool. I loved seeing your little nephew Jack. He is SO adorable! Thank you!
Brings back memories. But when I was on the farm. They were square bales and all loaded by hand.
JCB with tracks and extending boom is an awesome machine. If you can keep it I suspect you will not regret it. Thanks again for your efforts and delightful videos.
What an improvement in hay wheel rakes from 20 years ago... technology!🍻
CGW116A and theyre still quite shit when you have to chop it afterwards
We made hayleage with oats and it did very well for a good winter protein source. We also did it with iron clay peas.
Great footage. I love your Golden...we had a male that looked just like him - so good memories.
Relaxing to see someone else make hay. Nerve wracking when its my hay this year. First time I ever remember having issues in July and August with rain...incessant 1 and 2" storms all summer. 1 batch of hay didn't get wet...3rd cutting to start.
We plant around 30 acres of oats as a companion crop to our alfalfa, orchard grass, and timmothy mix. We cut ours in the late milk/ early dough stage and let it dry. Cattle eat it like candy. They will pass up high quality 2nd cutting and eat it first. Make sure you have a few good barn cats because you will have mice. We normally bale around 300 5 by 6 round bales and about 5000+ small squares a year. Everything is stored under roof
Im sure something is in the works for the JCB. JCB basically gets free advertising every time it’s in a video, agree with all the others that have said it was cute to see your nephew and Grandpa working together in the JCB.
Hauling bales with an $80k truck...very nice...looks like a GMC commercial.
Thanks for answering on the JBC.
Even for rained on hay, that looks really good. Glad to see you got it all in!
Just adorable!
wowza, balsy drone work ! flying inside the beast then back out.,.. nicely done sir!
We appreciate your hard work on business videos. The jcb is awesome
Good job Travis, you're a good man to have around. 😉🚜
Very educational, thank you!!
Looks like a good hay crop. 👍👍👍👍
Your Nephew is wicked cute.
Great video something for everyone a cute baby, cute dogs, Dad for the older folks, Ryan and Travis for the younger viewer. neat equipment. No preferences, all was good. A couple shots of the baby and dogs together would be nice to see
I love how you include shots of the dog rocket!! He’s definitely a star of the show!! Keep that up
Awesome family and video have a great weekend
The shot of the 76’ unloading the bale at 5:30 could make an awesome wallpaper 😎
We've made oatlage before, cattle seemed to enjoy it. We mow it down, then chop it and pack it together with corn silage and sorghum
Great stuff Ryan, Your Dad and little Jack seem to be very much at home in the JCB :):)
Just an awesome video Ryan. I loved it...fantastic footage...just perfect in my opinion...I really, really enjoyed it. Thank you and thanks for your channel and all of your hard work....
gunna get a JCB one of these days, just using our Tractors front end loader for loading Semis but would be much more efficient with a JCB fer sure! here in So-Colo we've been doing Small bales, then fed into a Bale Band-it or a Bale Baron to make bundles w 21 small bales in them.. then load big square bales on trucks.. haven't done round bales for quite a few years ... love your videos
Nice video of raking Hay I liked the up close shots really sweet thanks Ryan
I like those old Corn Cribs. We had two on our place.
I admire the work you guys do I have so much respect for you guys too
Top vid, mate. Excellent vid production as always. Great to see the JCB still working on the farms. Hope you manage to work out a deal to keep it permanently.👍
Travis did a great job on your hair, looks good!
Goodness! That cubby hole looks like it was made just for that wheel rake. That's a tight fit. As always, enjoyed the video!
Love seeing the little one in the JCB
Yeah I ran a 535 for a few years and then tried to get the best from a BR780A but I have to admit I'm done so I hope to be picking up a 568 net/twine this week and have to say your videos have been part of the push back to green.
You have nice weather! I have nothing but rain and wet standing hay! Send me some nicer weather...
Looks like you got a future farm hand there
Hay looks good
Watching hay raking is really satisfying👌🏻
Again! Great video and editing! WOW!!
Really nice photography!
Thanks Ryan another big thumbs-up great video sounds like you know what you want to do for hay for the winter what your dad think about the JBC I bet he likes it looks like it thanks again be safe
Nice video, well put together Ryan!
Love the video Ryan I’m sitting at the breakfast table planning on going to do some farm work! Thanks for the video Ryan. Ryan we make oat silage bales every year here and they keep Great it you don’t break the bales.
Stay safe out there!
@@HowFarmsWork Thanks just down for lunch before milking!
Thanks Ryan great video
Just keeping you updated on corn in other parts of the country. Corn has tasseled and is earing in Isle of Wight County VA
This is awesome! Great video
Am seeing this more and more, running the drive shaft down the shaft of the hay rake and pulling the baler behind the hay rake. From what I’ve watched this works really well.
Amazing, video havent watched it yet. But i know it will be good
Ho Wow you have big Helper with you guy's , love the videos on hay .
Awesome video as always.
Another great video !
LOVING the videos. You should make another day in the life.
That JCB looks like a giant matchbox toy. It's so cute!
Hopefully you have the JCB this winter when you have to get those bales down!
Picture perfect! Three generations out making hay, pretty hard to improve on that.
Man the rakes space is made to measure lol
Hey Ryan!! Just buy the JCB, Travis would be sad if you didn't lol.
you have some nice hay there
I think the old man is falling in love with that JCB. Great vid I always love the baling vids for some reason.
AKA KREE. IM GLAD YOU GUYS. HAVE THE JCB. TELESKID. IT. SEEMS. VERY. HELPFUL. HOPE THE. BEST. BLESSINGS
Greetings from Poland 😀😀😀😀😀
Ryan I do hope that you buy the JCB teleskid because it looks great next to a John Deere tractor
must be a youngster, you dont buy something for its looks ,,
hi Ryan another great video imagine how many bales you could move with a flat bed trailer for Big Red
And an extra Teleskid to unload?
they also have the Bobcat so until the JCB goes back they have 2 skid loaders
Surprised they didn’t use the bobcat to unload
Good vid im from ireland cool to see how ye make hay cool to see rake working
OM AGRI VIDS would a big Irish crop of grass fit between the wheels at the back when working full width the kind that gives you 20 bales to the acre
@@claetuswoodroofe4164 if ur on about the windrower we have pto powered ones and the wheels at the back are wider but ya dependa on the crop we re having good crop this year
love the dog doing dog things
love the content you put out
Thanks Mikey!
I really like your truck. 🚚
Love the videos
Good job i like to see farm work
Thanks
@The_CEO_of_JCB... Just let them have it!! In every video it appears, it gets a good review... What better advertisement can you get? Common, what's the loss?? Give it to them!
Bale wrappers are the way to go
Making Hay sure is Fun when hydraulics do the lifting and Not Armstrong. Is chopping corn on the table för Winter feed in silo or ag bag? Best spring smell is fresh cut hay.
Nice video!! Just drop the schedule and upload if ready. No pressure needed, whe will wait 😁 oh and btw i'm a HUGE fan off your dogs 🤗👌
I was thinking when you put the small bale on top of the pile that it would be hilarious to stack 3 high with the extending boom then have to get them back down with the bobcat
Great vid
Nice truck. Duramax, my best truck.
Nice video!
I have 2 questions:
1. What is with the weird shapes of the fields? Is it property lines? Or coincidence in the planting?
2. Why not stack bales on your trailer with the TeleSkid and save some trips back and forth?
Man I think this would be a great place for a tractor and loader because now it's a three man crew to bale, load, and haul and it would only be a 2 man crew with a front loader
Make sure you roll down your window when leaving the key inside. Dont want to lock yourself out. Done it a couple times myself to learn from it.
Nice vid! Can you attach an accumulator on the baler? Less traveling on the field.we are using one on our jd round baler.we think it will help alot
this looks like a weekend of nice weather, yet here in Central WI it's been back to wet weather and there are farmers wanting to make first crop hay. I was wondering how long you'd have the JCB on the farm.
From my experience, you should stack hey not upside down but like wheels on side , stacking by that u protect them from blown rain and leaks from the roof. Water just nicelly gows down and dont effect hay. At least try stack this way in the middle.
We had to do that once and it worked out for feeding wise
Busy, busy, busy!!! Nice video Ryan. Love your content and ideas for videos. Am wondering tho, how do you find the time to get the different wonderful video shots and still find the time to do your work. Absolutely wonderful video shots.....
Thanks Cassius! Finding the time is an ever-long struggle. We’re always busy on the farm and so finding time to edit is usually reserved for my free time
that was a good video!!!!!
Looks like sombody can do some real good double tasking lol
I think the grandkid may be getting a JCB for Xmas
My john Deere baler! Enough to make a grown man cry in dispair. Two hour to clear brockage and same thing the next two bales .had McHale baler 15.000 bales and NEVER blocked up once good bales and no belts to break ( McHale 5500).....regards dave
Yes I like new videos but I also understand that besides doing videos you have other chores to do and have a personal life plus you need to have a skid steer drag race from a time or two
