My next door neighbor Bruce Wright had a alcohol rail sand dragster called X rated then his Jeepzilla based on a funnycar front engine style. Those days were one of the best memories of my child hood. I have so much respect for the Men and Women in the sand dragster community, the respect and sportsmanship is incredible. God Bless you all!
In the 70s it was different. My step dad was the quickest man on sand. Top fuel had 4 tires on the back and the motor was 80% nitro. This kind of racing scared me. Only because of the one accident in 77.
These guys are running alcohol. The record for Top Alcohol Dragster is a 2.369. The fastest man on sand is Dennis Rieck with a 2.208 in his Top Fuel Dragster.
Me too. We ran low 3 sec passes in 300 feet back in the late 80's with blown injected small block chevy. And we did add nitro to the alcohol. But I remember a guy with a big block chevy blown dragster went into the 2 second range. I also saw a top fuel funny car bolt on a set of duel scoopers on his car and went 1.9 in the 100 yard dash, it was amazing.

Top fuel is a nitro/alky mix with a blower, top alky can be either blower with alky or n/a with a nitro/alky mix
