I think one of the determining factors I don't hear being talked about are mistakes. Last year's team was legendary in that they didn't commit a lot of penalties (I believe 3/game) and didn't turn the ball over. It's hard to believe this year's team will come anywhere near duplicating that kind of consistent discipline and/or luck. That in itself can determine the outcome of 1-2 games.

Mark is spot on here. Warren deserves the backup role due to his ability to run the offense, throw the ball accurately and effectively, as well as for his outstanding character, resilience, classy demeanor. He's a Michigan man. Tuttle is a transfer who couldn't do anything at Indiana, as Mark pointed out.
Mark is also spot on with Edwards. His "up and down" tendency is a little scary. You can't have "one of those games" as Michigan's top running back in 2024. You have to be a beast every game, every play, like Haskins and Corum were. Mark pointed out the great depth of the RB room. I agree. It's so strong that it would be a shame if they force-feed Donovan if/when he's slightly underwhelming. If he's "the top Heisman candidate from the Big 10", as Steve projects, then fine. Run him into the ground if you have to.
But I'm thinking a RB by committee, led by Donovan Edwards, is Michigan's best chance to win this year. I want to see at least 3 backs getting substantive carries every game. The bonus for toning down Donovan's role is the development of others for the future. They have 3-4 incredible backs in the wings behind Donovan and there's every reason in the world to get them on the field sooner rather than later.
I think they'll go 10-2 or better. Orji will "shock the world" and be outstanding. Warren will come in once in a while as a change-up. Edwards will lead one of the best rushing offenses in the nation and they'll win at least 1 playoff game.

I think that Moore is confident in Orji! There are so many things that can’t be accounted for until someone is actually facing live bullets. Orji deserves his shot, he’ll take his lumps but that upside is in the stratosphere! His Milroe comp is by no means an insult. I thanked the Almighty that Bama couldn’t snap a football to him to save their lives because he gave us a fit in the second half. I see a Cam Newton-esque RPO concept looming in our future. This is a 10+ win team with Orji moving the chains, chewing clock & protecting the rock! What they did at penn state last year can be duplicated & equally effective.
Orji has to be coached to his strengths, make timely throws & stay out of the defense’s way. Do that & we can go toe to toe with any team!

Your analysis is always thoughtful and generally pretty close. The idea the Washington game is going to be in question is just silly. USC also is not ready for the Michigan defense. Michigan will lose to Oregon because they can't keep up offensively and they'll barely lose to Texas or Ohio not both. They'll win 10 games or 9 if they lose to Texas and likely make the playoff again. Oregon is going to beat Ohio. So Michigan will not have to rematch Ohio.

I know the programs down here more than I want to. Quinn ewers can't hit the broadside of a fucking barn half the time if he has pressure. I trust Michigan if they turn that into a boxing match to squeeze by in that game. Ohio has had no problems in recruiting or buying fancy toys. Their problem is exactly the same. Culture and offensive line. Their qb this year certainly isn't better than CJ fucking Stroud so if Michigan doesn't completely shit the bed along the o line or at qb that game should go basically like the last 3. Michigan only needs a 21 Cade mcnamara year out of its qb room and I think every qb in that room is better than him

Everyone seems to be underestimating the fight in Michigan. Tony Alford was on another Channel and said the Michigan running back room is tough and plays hard, in two or three different ways. He did not say tougher or plays harder than his former team, Ohio State. This is a damning statement that Ohio State does not play hard and is not tough. Ohio State should beat all the weaker teams, especially their weak non-conference schedule, and cruise into the Michigan game. However if they are still not playing hard and are not tough, they will lose for the fourth year in a row. Enough on Ohio State, another post for michigan.

Tuttle was a backup at Indiana and was sub-par at that. I'd rather develop a guy who can be here next year and beyond than watch a mediocre, 7-year, career backup guy like Tuttle. The coaches will make the call based on who they think gives them the best chance to win. If it's mop-up duty late in games, then the coaches will go with a developmental player. I'd be shocked if Tuttle gets anywhere near the starter. He's a solid #3 at best in my book.

I believe Steve is underestimating Coach Moore. I think that the past this time will not dictate the present. Because I don't believe that Coach Moore is tied down by Michigan traditions or it's past. I don't think Harbaugh was either when he became Michigan's HC. I believe Harbaugh's success and lack of success was due to him running the Progam like an NFL operation. Which is why the team descended to a bunch of individuals. Sherone Moore was one of the catalysts along with the players to change the culture to what it is to do. That's why I also believe that Harbaugh told Coach Moore at the beginning of the season that he would be the next HC. Because I think Sherone changed Harbaugh. I believe Sherone Moore is more akin to Mark Dantonio and Kirby Smart. What I mean by that is his connection with his players. Not to mention a great recruiter and evaluator. So I don't think he would start anyone based on being a safe bet for the beginning of the season. I believe he's going to roll with the players who commands greatness and the team. So I believe that this team will be hard to beat because of their, culture, belief, focus, and drive will be unmatched.

    My five predictions :
What McNamara/ JJ McCarthy duet was in 2021, expect Orji to be starter , with either Warren/ Tuttle getting several strategic snaps per game , early on,especially.
2.IF Michigan goes 10-2 in regular season or better, they are definitely in Playoffs. They might get in at 9-3 because they have the toughest schedule in the nation, they are Michigan, and because they are defending NCs.
8-4 gets them a nice bowl bid .
    3. Michigan's best Heisman hopefuls are Edwards, Will Johnson, Grant/ Graham with ....possibly Orgi only IF it turns out he can pass, too!
    4. Ohio State will win the national championship . They might win the Big Ten, as well .
    5. The Michigan new offensive line will pleasantly surprise.
Add on: Michigan's Defense will carry the team and is the best in the nation yet again.
