In this Logic Pro X tutorial, I will show you some mixing techniques that I personally use to get my Kick drums and 808s to thump and knock. In trap production, it's important to make sure that your Kick and 808 are the sounds that get the most attention in your beats because that's what drives a trap beat.

Binaural panning?? Unbelievable. Had no idea my basses and kicks were being spread apart like that! That adjustment alone has suddenly made such a gigantic difference - thanks very much! The difference is night and day!
But what is the advantage over just making your kick mono?
Use the side-only EQ option without using binaural pan and you'll get the same effect and result without clipping because you still have to use compression as well...... believe me, side-EQ on the 808 or bass alone will give you more stereo space while keeping it clean and still hitting hard. It works. For the kick, do the same thing because the samples that come in packs and kits are already processed to sound a specific way. Main thing is to clean up the low sub sonic freqs under 100 Hz and keep the mids to save stereo space once you layer in other instruments, you'll be amazed how clean and hard your mixes will come out, don't forget to use your ears.
Finally a Tutorial that shows how to mix the 808. I haven't heard my 808`s on little speakers and nobody could help until now.

I'm using ultrabeat for my drumkits but it's only in stereo or surround (at least on my version of logic). Does it make a big difference to not having mono if we still apply all the tips you've shown?

Hey CJ, could you put up a tutorial on how to make kicks punchier, and how to make the choruses on a song more impactful as a result? At present I can put together a song and use a lot of automation as well, but I still fail to make my choruses sound 'larger' than the verses (if that makes any sense). Hope you'll do one on this.
Family this was great. I notice when I use my drum samples in the EXS Sampler my results vary. What plugin are you using for your drum samples?
