    Awesome vid dude!!! I love Saphir products and Venetian. Lately I've been into Smith's leather balm as well as Armstrong's products for the same exact reasons why you chose cobbler's choice as your #1! Both are made of all natural ingredients and after using them I think I've actually figured out a way to make my own version of the stuff.... which I have not yet tried on my boots, but may one day! Also yes, that Huberd's definitely darkens leather. I had good luck using it on my Truman Java Waxed Flesh pair, but it darkened the hell out of my Red Wings!!

    I really appreciate your breakdown of the ingredients. The very nice customer service lady at Bickmore called me back to answer my question about silicone - yes, Bick’s #4 has a VERY LITTLE amount. I appreciated the honesty. Lots of boot makers warn against silicone (Lucchese, of course, recommends their water-based conditioner), but many people choose Bick’s. As for water-proofing - you can get a product JUST for waterproofing, so I don’t even count that when rating a conditioner. Thank you for a great video.

    I just used Red Wings Leather Cream (neatsfoot oil blend) on my Red Wings 1907 moc toes. It didn't darken the leather and it seemed to do a good job conditioning. I followed it with Red Wings Leather Protector. My boots look great. The only downside is the cost. It's pretty expensive in a Red Wings store. I think I'll get some of that Cobbler's Choice.

    Good info. I’ve worked in the oilfield for 15 years and have gone thru so many different work boots and it’s just occurred to me to clean and condition the boots. They told us we should be changing out our boots every 6 months but that’s just not feasible even while making oil money. I was talking to someone the other day about how lucky they were that they didn’t have to shine boots in boot camp and that’s when it hit me that I could be making these boots last even longer

      You can also look into getting boots that can be resoled fairly inexpensively. What usually wears out on work boots first (especially if you take care of the leather) are the soles. But some boots can be resoled for well-under $50.

    Since October of last year, I have been using "Black Rock" leather conditioner that works very well on leather. Blackrock’s biggest pro is that it doesn’t alter the leather's color nor clog up the pores of your leather. Blackrock is a much better choice if you want to preserve the original color of your boots while giving them a little “pick-me-up.” Blackrock works best with similar oily and waxy leathers-Horween Chromexcel comes to mind as a trendy leather with which Blackrock would mesh well. Blackrock is an excellent conditioner if you want to keep your boots fresh and classy.

    I went with a homemade conditioner/waterproofer. It does contain turpentine though. The most common blend I see is 2 parts Boiled Linseed Oil, 1 part Turpentine and 1 part Pure Bees Wax. After my first shift wearing them, the leather had loosened up a fair bit and by the end of my third 8hour shift of standing on my feet they felt like I had been wearing them for years. These are black full-grain leather boots, so darkening is fine with me.

Now my Chelsea boots, on the other hand, are special ordered and monogramed by John Lobb. You're right, the Saphir Renovatuer seems over priced. But, when you fall in love with a pair of boots like I did with my John Lobb Tutor Chelsea boots, and spend $2,300 for them, believe me, nothing less than the "cadillac" of shoe leather conditioners will do. Ah.., love...

    I've just got my first pair of nice leather boots, and I've been looking for a good conditioner so I really appreciate the video/s! I think I'll be ordering Cobbler's Choice.. Have you tried Leather Honey? I ask about it because I've heard people mention it a few times online in the few searches I've made, and it seems to have great reviews on Amazon and the price per oz seems nice.
    *edit* nevermind! I just went through your conditioner playlist and I see you've reviewed Leather Honey... I think I'll pass on it. Thanks for all these reviews! Really helps me when making a choice.

    What would you recommend for conditioning 1461 Nappa leather? Is Dr Martens Wonder Balsam so great that it costs 2,5 times more than other waxes?

    I'd love to hear your thoughts as to why you chose Huberd's Shoe Grease over Obenauf's HD LP. I'm researching for heavy use outdoor/work boots.

      Rex McKinniss nothing will waterproof better than Obenofs LP. I’ve tried them all.

      I am also curious about this, I have been using the obenaufs product for 5 years now and it works very well, I also like that it doesn't make the leather hard or uncomfortable but it's probably a good idea to put some conditioner on your shoes before the obenaufs every few applications

    Nick, always appreciate your content. How does some of the shoe/boot maker’s conditioners stack up in comparison such as RedWing, Clark’s and AE? I often find myself 1 stop shopping when purchasing footwear (especially shoes). If not already in my wardrobe, I’ll pick up supplies while making a purchase in these stores. Thoughts?

      Honestly if the company is promoting their own conditioning products for their own shoes... I think it's a fine bet to use them!

      @@Stridewise So for example for Red Wings we should use Red Wing Conditioner or Mink Oil, and for White’s Boots we should use White’s Boot Oil, etc etc instead of Saphir?

    • @apilkey
      @apilkey Před rokem

      @@johnhawkins3507 Why do you say that?
      Even Red Wings recommends using it they have mink oil products they sell.
      Even Saphir who is world renown for shoe care products makes products with mink oil for Cordovan leather etc.
      …or are you talking about not using something that is 100% Mink Oil?
      Or are you just against using the animal minks for this cause you think they kill them for that purpose?

    • @apilkey
      @apilkey Před rokem

      @@johnhawkins3507 I think their Mink Oil is only for their steel toe work boots maybe for commercial and industrial construction maybe which is mainly what I’ve used it for which prolongs they life of the leather when working in harsh environments and it makes them more weather proof.
      It’s darkened my work boots abit bit nothing crazy.
      For casual boots you just wear on the street and you want them to look good then maybe you’re probably right not to use it but rather use their leather conditioners and creams.

    I have an ancient bottle of a product called 'Kelly's Cobbler Shoe Cream'. It's the only product I am currently using. It seems to do a nice job of cleaning, shining, & oiling my boots without changing their color, all on its own.
    Have you ever heard of this product? Has anyone? Any ideas on what products or steps I could add to my process to get my boots looking even better? Thanks!
