Back in the garage working on the 6.4 SRT Hemi V8 swap for my Jeep Wrangler!
In the last video, we removed the old 3.8 factory engine and dropped the 392 in place.
Not only am i upgrading to the 6.4 Hemi, but i am also running the 8 speed 8HP70 auto trans behind it. This is possible by using the Jeep Speed Shop kit! Jeep speed shop makes a ton of DIY parts that will allow you to do this Jeep Wrangler V8 swap at home in your garage.
So far, everything is fairly easy and straight forward. I strongly believe that anyone with some basic mechanical knowledge can do this swap (Along with some help from my videos).

I am using their Hemi Wiring Harness, ECM, 8 speed trans mount, 8 speed kit, steering relocation, Camaro fan shroud and controller, and eventually their AC lines.
The JSS website can be hard to navigate, and reaching them on the phone can be hard. It is a small shop consisting of 3 people, however the kits and parts they make are outstanding, so be patient.

8 speed trans: 13-17 Ram 1500 4x4 w/5.7. this is a 8HP70
Shifter: 15-18 Challenger with any engine
Truck VVT 5.7- 09-20 ram 1500
LX 5.7 09-20 Challenger, charger, 300, or grand cherokee
LX SRT 6.4 09-20 Challenger, charger, 300 or Grand cherokee
Transfer case with 8 speed- 07-11 Auto, 07-19 Manual
Camaro Fan- 16-21 Camaro, CTSV, ATS

I hope this video shows you guys that it is not to complicated to do a Jeep Wrangler V8 conversion at home by yourself. Its not the cheapest project, however you can slowly buy parts, and do it yourself!

On the 8 speed transmission there is not alut of info and was wondering if u got to change the valve body out iv seen in other videos
@@matthewjohnson5334 you don’t have to.
But if you want the manual shift option (tap shift), then you can send the stock valve body to Jeep speed shop and they will reprogram it
I hope everyone appreciates the effort he puts into these descriptions of what you need to do depending on models, etc. Many CZcamsrs just tell you what they did with their application. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just acknowledging the extra effort here.

Okay Ben, it’s videos like this that get me in trouble. You convinced me I could do a 1 ton swap in my garage by myself, so I did. And here you are convincing me I can Hemi swap in my garage by myself... so I have to.
I’ve been building cars for a long time. Bought a 2015 charger motor with the recommended 2010 Jeep steering pump. The intake tube runs right into the steering pump. I’ve installed twin turbos on a 2013 coyote that no shop wanted ti tackle. What steering pump is correct?????

I remember watching this before, during, and after my Hemi swap! I put a 2022 5.7L Hemi and 8 speed in my 2008 Jeep Rubicon and loved the whole process. I also did in a shed, on the floor, with all hand tools. If I can do it, you can too! All it takes time, money, and determination! 😁👍

your vids have inspired me to spend the kids inheritance, lol. I got a rust free 93 YJ to modify at Christmas. Then the wife saw our son's Gladiator Rubicon when we went to Texas for a visit. When I did my LS swap I was the most worried about the wiring and it turned out to be the easiest part of the whole damn thing
I hope you didn't lose power for very long. I'm in Houston and we went almost 72 hours, no lights, no heat. Luckily we had water and none of our pipes burst! I got so desperate I was burning scrap wood in my fireplace!

Sure makes it nice to have that bumper, grill, radiator, condenser out of the way. BTW, 23 people died during the freeze last week while out of power. Several were elderly seniors without power in single digit temps for days.

Like the videos but the temps in Texas were 0degrees in much of the state. The loss of power and cold were kind of a big deal given our power grid. Nevertheless, keep up the work and the swap looks good.

I'm a little late to the party but just wanted to say thank you for all the good information you put in the videos. Always been a DIYer so they give me some new ideas.
Question for you, I have been debating how to go about this swap and I have a friend that has a dealers license that can get me into auctions for salvaged vehicles. If you had to do this again do you think buying a rolled ram with a Hemi and 8 speed would be more cost beneficial in the long run? and possibly cut down on the number of parts needed?
Yeah grab a 5.7/8speed from a 4x4 and that’ll help out for sure

How did you route you transmission oil cooler lines? Mine go right over the passenger upper control arm mount and I only have an inch of clearance at ride height.
Great stuff Ben! Spent a good amount of time thinking about LS vs Hemi swaps for my 2012 Rubicon, while keeping it manual. Is the Getrag238 the best option for the 6.4L Hemi?
It’s pretty much your only option. Lots of manual lovers go that route and from what I’ve seen a lot of them regret the decision and wish they went auto.

Couldn’t you snag the back part of the connector off of your old engine harness instead of gluing?
On the one I am doing I rotated the fuel rail. Now the fuel fitting is on the passenger side.

I would, with the 5.7 you would be ok depending on tire size though. At a minimum, throw some chromoly rear axle shafts in

There might be a difference between the 3.8vs 3.6. My 3.8 manual mount worked
My is an '08 manual. So I guess I'll try my existing mount.

Ben I was curious how you were going to modify the stock battery tray, looks like you decided to go Barnes 4wd. Is this because it was a pain to modify the OEM, or does the OEM flat out not work, Thanks.
All covered in the next video! The OEM will have to be modified to fit with the hemi. Since we are cutting some of the OEM tray, we need to add something better to make sure our battery is secure. Of course another option is buying a full steel that is bolt in for the hemi swaps
