    I'm migrating into wheat bourbons, from scotch or whiskey. I find they have more flavor, less bite, delightful nose. My rankings are fluid but current favorites from your selections are Redemption, Larceny, and Makers. Old Elk is pricey here, beyond my budget.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Před 8 měsíci +1

      I found that wheated bourbons have a "softer" feel on the palate and that's a good thing for me sometimes.

    Absolutely wonderful lineup Peter.
    My go to wheated Bourbon is the Wyoming Whiskey DOUBLE CASK. It's a stunner at 50% ABV and finished in PX casks..!!! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. 🥃
    All Weller expressions are ridiculously overpriced in SoCal. Even the low end Special Reserve sells for over $100.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Před rokem +1

      Currently, I am obsessed with the Old Elk Double Wheat. I have only seen the Wyoming Whiskey Small Batch and the Single Barrel. The Double Cask sound delicious. I'll keep an eye out for it. Weller is out of control as is most Buffalo Trace products. Thanks Lorenz! Cheers and have a great weekend!

Hope you get to 2k subs, Peter, you deserve it! My 6th special bottle would be Rabbit Hold, Cavehill, but I'm not sure of the mash bill.

    I was sold a bottle of Weller Special Reserve to start my whisky journey (the bottles of Jack downed during college don't count) so Weller has always held a special place for me. I picked up a bottle of 107 before I could really appreciate what I had. I'm now looking for it again, but you're right, it's impossible to find. It's one of the few bottles I would overpay for.

      I have about 1/3 of my bottle of 107 left. I'm happy I got the bottle, but I'm not happy with the price I paid for it. Won't be doing that again. Emotional bonds with certain bottles make them taste better 🙂

      I was just over in California and picked up the Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Series (it is not distributed in Arizona) 68% corn, 20% wheat, and 12% malted barley and it blew me away. If you can get it in your market I would highly recommend it. Probably my new favorite wheated bourbon. Cheers!

      @@whiskeyisajourney I’ll pick it up. I got the Wyoming recommendation and love it. I am just starting our in Bourbon but it’s strong and delicious. How should one move up the Proof ladder or ranks? I am excited to try the cask strength bourbons but I don’t want to get turned off by the high proof.

    • @whiskeyisajourney
      @whiskeyisajourney  Před 12 dny

      @@Elricky124 time. It takes time for your body to get used to the proof. It's different for everyone. There's a "ABV wall" you need to break through. Once you break through that wall it opens up so many different flavors. I truly did not appreciate the taste of bourbon or whiskey for that matter until I was able to break through my ABV wall. It's a game changer. Just be patient. You'll get there!

    Bourbon, Scotch, Irish, so far I've enjoyed everything with added sweetness. Natural fruit spirits like Wine, Tequila, and Gin? No siree. Definitely prefer wheat over rye, though I take my coffee black so who knows.

    Great video, Peter! Really enjoying this series and your insights! That is a great list. I’ve only ever had the Larceny, Makers 46, and Weller 107. All three are great bottles. As I thought about it, 5 wheaters with this criteria is tough! Looking forward to the next series…curious if we’ll see Larceny Barrel Proof or some of the higher proof Makers products.
