- After much hard work and planning, Tyseley based immaculate Ex GWR Castle 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe re-enacted the famous 1950's 'Bristolian' Non-Stop from London Paddington to Bristol Temple Meads and return. We see the train arrive 10 minutes early at Temple Meads, before it departs to Bristol St Phillip's Marsh for servicing The maroon vehicle behind the loco has been converted as a water carrier, which means that long runs can be made without a second tender. Finally being towed in by Tyseley owned 47480 County Of Essex, the train is seen departing Dead on Time from Platform 1. Not much action, but a detailed look at this superbly turned out locomotive...enjoy.
Very nice movie with a superb quality. Thank you Bob. Philippe
Great video BOB, that is an awesome locomotive. The fans there really come out to see the show.
So far as train videos go, You have that magnificent entrance to the station, an absolutely mint looking engine complete with coaches plus the sun is shining making it a gorgeous day, and to cap it all off, we have a very experienced filmmaker with an eye for detail in charge of the camera...!! What more can I say.
This film ticks all the boxes Bob, you did it proud.
Absolutely superb camera work from start to finish... 10* from me :-))
Oh well Thumbs up then. :-))
@Bobcatonline It was less of a spectacle than I was expecting Rob, and with a tripod in use, being in the middle of the action was not an option, so I stood back and used the lens to get in closer...Thanks as always for your support...Bob
@railwaychannel My pleasure Mark, this is one of the best solutions to date to solve this water provision for locos, and is what you've come to expect from the Bob Meanley stable at Tyseley. Thanks again for your kind and appreciated comments...Bob
@Bevoin1970 You're so kind Paul, but to be honest, this is one I wasn't even going to upload...so your support as always means a great deal to me...Bob
@JimTLonW6 Thanks very much for your much appreciated comments Jim...Bob
@jonh9754 Thanks very much for your kind and greatly appreciated comments....This was indeed a magnificent event ....Bob
Lovely compilation from Bristol, of a special occasion. The Earl looks immaculate! The GUV looks to be a useful item for future runs. Thanks for sharing Brian
@stephengthompson Thanks Steve, your kind comments are much appreciated...Bob
@PhilbruProduction This was a recreation of a Top Link Express that ran in the 1950's Philippe, thanks for watching...Bob
I dont think you could of asked for a nicer day Bob. What a beautiful loco in perfect condition, the 47 livery is cracking also. thanks for sharing it with us...................Martin
@GJDobbzy You should have said hello Gareth, it would have been nice to meet you..another time maybe...Thanks for watching....Bob
@SteamSeeker I see that the Welshness in you hasn't been lost, the ability to give warm and flattering comments is still there....many thanks....Bob
@rab4472 It certainly does Mike, and congratulations to Bob Meanley and his team for such innovation...Thanks for your kind comments...Bob
Raised many happy memories - I was the NR rep on the train ringing our control and signal boxes - especially on return to London, for a good run - signallers and loco crew did well. Driver Poole saying he'd never had every signal green Bristol to Padd! Many thanks for posting P
It's always rewarding when a piece evokes happy memories for the viewer. It was a memorable run, and with Ray Poole at the controls.....it was a winner all the way..Regards...Bob
@GreatWestern175 Thanks Ry, not the best day I've had filming, the train arrived at plat 10 which isn't the most photogenic, it came in 10 mins early and caught many on the hop, and there was very little excitement at the arrival or departure, with just one brief blow on the whistle and gently away, so it left me with the only option of capturing all parts of the loco....Bob
@pwalpar There are always crowds whenever there's a steam hauled train out Walter, this loco was just a rusted chassis, wheels and boiler for many years...hard to believe when you see it now...Thanks as always...Bob
Hi Bob, In my home town on this one mate.Templemeads is my favourite station of all as I come from Bristol. Its amazing to know that just only 8 days ago you were in templemeads!!! I would love to model templemeads maybe one day in the future!!!! Thanks again Bob top video
@bikerarni Thanks Mike, it's a supreme example of locomotive preservation, it's hard to believe that this was a lump of rusting metal not that long ago...Bob
@whitewingsrich Thanks very much for watching...Bob
@S2RUF You're obviously a man of great perception Stu, and thanks as always for your much appreciated support...:o) Bob
@782sirbrian Thanks Brian, Bob Meanley and his team at Tyesley are to be congratulated for such superb work...Bob
very nice video bob. I thoguht i seen you at temple i was right beside you at one point and did think shell i say hello or not. was nice to see a castle non stop from london to bristol and return again.
@imautuber444 My pleasure Martin, and thanks again for your support...Bob
Great footage of the superb Earl of Mount Edgcumbe Bob! I have to admit I go a bit goggle eyed when this loco is around! Well captured as always but when compared to your recent work it just shows what a superb piece of kit the x920 is, and that's no detriment to this video. Thanks. Ken
Totally agree Ken, it's a fantastic piece of kit in every respect...Best wishes....Bob
Wonderful. Something tells me that you are really at your best with steam? What a sight for sore eyes was that loco!
Alan
Excellent video it was a beautiful day & The Earl looked great. Brilliant departure.Nice to see you once again (C&A) 5*
Superb video Bob, great to see the steam engines
@grannysam123 Thanks Sam, what a lovely way of putting it, it's much appreciated...Bob
Great vid Bob. The Earl looked as good as always and that water van is a great idea (same it's in West Coast maroon!). I believe Tyseley want to convert their own at some point. Well done.
What a lovely steam locomotive, you are really lucky to have steam on the mainline! A big thumb up!
@Jonern67 Thanks Jonern, they've done a magnificent job of restoring this loco, for years it was just a rusting frame, wheels and boiler.....Bob
Another well captured look at a double chimnied Castle. I didn't think you was gunna get it that day. Nice day on getting it too. I too got it twice but cocked up!
@NN2Blue I can always rely on you Mike, to give a truthful evaluation, and that's greatly appreciated....There was just something missing compared with previous workings at Temple Meads....Bob
@60103Henry Thanks for your kind comment....Bob
@berwickspotter Thanks Gareth, glad you enjoyed it ....Bob
Looks like another good day out! Excellent and very enjoyable video of a great loco. Bags of steam and atmosphere. You seemed to be joined by a great many fellow enthusiasts. One thing that struck me was that, unlike yourself, so many of them got so close to the loco that they couldn't see it properly! Nice one again Bob.
@cuzinitr It certain is Rich, the people who own it have done a magnificent job of restoring it....Bob
Love the Castle Class. Great engines
This is as good as it gets...Thanks for your comments....Bob
Robert Masterman
you're welcome
@acw71000 I'd travelled up from West Wales by train Austin, which restricted my movements, and I was hoping for an arrival under Brunel's overall roof, but it came in on Plat 10, it arrived at platform 1 for the departure, but again they didn't start from under the canopy, so I was disappointed in that respect.....so all that was left was to film detailed shots...Thanks as always...Bob
Excellent work Bob. I heard today that she was 10 minutes early into Reading. Apparently she was looped to let a 125 HST go through. She was 3 minutes early to me at Didcot though. 5* (or liked)
Amazing footage
@NwsNoaaChaser I would love to have seen this at speed through open countryside, but it appears that the runs were magnificent....Thanks very much...Bob
Nicely filmed record of the days events Bob ,Sometimes its nice to just watch the station activity and close shots of a well turned out loco and crew. The Castle is a credit to Tysley along with their imaginative thinking with the GUV. Certainly looks better than the infrequently used water carrier for the King. Mike
Didn't need to guess where you were going Saturday! LOL! I sense from some of your other comments that you were a bit disappointed with the way events turned out. I think this video is one of your best where you have attempted to squeeze every last ounce of creativity out of difficult circumstances. A definite "Favourite" and the last award of 5* I'm ever making!
These weather conditions have lead to stunning imagery over the past few weeks. Jet aircraft screw up the atmosphere!! - LOL! Mike
@SteamSeeker Thanks very much, I try and produce work that gives a sort, not just a record shot, and shall try and continue doing so for a few years yet. I'm pleased you're getting pleasure from watching....it makes it all worthwhile...Bob
Nice work Bob! What a beautiful locomotive! 5*+
Rich
Can anyone wonder how the GW retains its appeal 60+ years after it ceased to exist? Excellent video!
@Framptonjoe Thanks Joe, it's a superb loco...Bob
@1adamstephen Thanks Adam, the 47 is based at Tyseley. so the whole train and both locos are all based there...Bob
@EMuksteam Thanks C, I was a little disappointed, at Temple Meads as there wasn't much of a show put on for the gathered crowds.....Bob
@balmesh I totally agree Alan, I often go to these events without my tripod, and that gives more flexibility, but had to plan differently on this one...Bob
excellent video as always bob!
i was up there too
saw an xc hst for the first time lol,
i was expecting the train in at 4:45, but it got there earlier(as i was on thebus back to temple meads)
so i just saw it leaving
then i saw the 47 leaving,
also, i saw you get off the hst in port talbot :),
keegz
Thanks for the info about the maroon carriage - honestly didn't know that and it seems an obvious thing to do now - paint it in GWR colours and who would know? Perfect conditions and great video (yet again!!) The usual 5* . . .
@itfcsam I've seen your footage Sam, you did well, it caught many people out coming in 10 mins early...Bob
@ervans Not as large as your Giants Ervan, but a magnificent sight all the same, thanks as always...Bob
@Firrboxfryup Thanks Jamie, I agree with everything you've said, this is a magnificent example of how a Castle should look...Bob
@Keegz2k7 Thanks Keegan, sorry I didn't notice you.....Bob
Great vid Bob. I think this vid shows that you don't have to be at the platform ends to get some great shots - sometimes you can be too close to the action. Stu
Driver Ray Poole doing his magic again!
Indeed Harold, Ray Poole and Ray Churchill are a wonderful partnership.
@@robmasterman I'm a lifelong model engineer having built 6 passenger hauling steam locos. My father was a driver on the LMS for 47 years.
My step daughter is Cambodian and in 2017 when visiting UK we had a day out on the Shakespeare Express with 5043 and Ray as the driver. Ray invited my step Daughter, Ying 26 and myself onto the footplate. Ying was so happy, it gave her such a lot street cred when she went back to Cambodia!
@@haroldpearson6025 What a wonderful experience for you both Harold, and one I'm sure, that Ying will never forget.
@hornbachhh Small world isn't it Andy, it's sad to see that Bath Road is just a flat piece of land now, but Temple Meads is still on of the Great Brunel legacies....Bob
Once again Bob, superb footage, it was nice to see 5043. May I post my video as a response? Liked & Faved.
Fred
@MG06ZT I'm not sure Keith but I don't think the GUV ever carried the Chocolate & Cream Livery...but I may be wrong...again !!..ha..ha...Bob
To robmasterman
At least, Bob, with diesels there is less hassle from the public. Stations must be about the most difficult places to get a good clean shot.
Alan
@nxea170202 Thanks Fred, and of course you can post a video response...Bob
@balmesh Thanks Alan, steam is far more dramatic, you have to work so much harder to get good shots of diesels...Bob
