第一次中東戰爭，是由於1947年由聯合國大會181號決議所引起的矛盾衝突。從1948年5月15日凌晨開始（衝突從1947年11月開始），為爭奪巴勒斯坦，以色列和阿拉伯國家之間發生了大規模的戰爭。它使以色列成為獨立的國家，將巴勒斯坦英帝國託管地的剩餘地區分成分別由埃及和外約旦控制的地區。戰爭中有96萬巴勒斯坦人逃離家園，淪為難民，戰爭激化了阿拉伯國家和以色列、阿拉伯國家和美、英的矛盾。戰後劃分的巴以停火線（“綠線”）使得以色列領土比分治決議規定的面積擴大了6200平方公里，這條分界線也逐漸被國際社會乃至阿拉伯世界所認可。
