What you carry, and how you carry things could play a huge role in how your trip goes. Let’s start with backpacks. I’ve been using the Peak Design 30L Everyday Carry V2 Backpack. It’s my favorite bag because you can access it from 3 different sides, compress it or expand it, water resistant, and has these dividers that you can use to compartmentalize the bag. It’s aimed to be a camera bag, but, It can be used to separate your camera, clothes, or other electronics away from each other. It’s got a luggage pass through so you can attach it directly to your luggage, making it easier to just roll around.
This is the away bigger carry-on. It’s a carry-on that Away made slightly larger than your standard carry on, to make use of the little bits of extra space most large airplanes have in the luggage compartment. It has a TSA lock. Oh, and stick in a tracker in each of your pieces of luggage, backpack, carry-on and checked bag. It gives you a second layer of security that your luggage isn’t lost.
In my tech kit, I bring one of each a single lightning cable and 2 usb-c cables so that I can charge any devices I might have, this Anker MagGo magsafe battery pack and I also keep this synology beedrive in my bag. Basically, this is a super portable SSD but it has a really neat feature. You can transfer files from your phone or tablet to it wirelessly through the BeeDrive app. That way, I can back up my photos to the bee drive, free up space on my phone or camera, and continue taking photos and videos on my trips. I also use to back up files from my computer as needed. Overall, I think the additional features I get from this portable SSD vs just a standard SSD. Because if I don’t want to use those wireless features, I’ll just use it like a regular SSD. One caveat though, is currently, you can’t use the back-up features on Mac, but you can on windows, android and ios. But you can still use it like a regular SSD. I also keep this anker 65w GAN charger in the pouch. I use this anker 3-in-1 cube to charge my iphone, apple watch, and wireless earbuds when traveling. This lets me have a compact charger that enables me to charge my main devices at once, through a single USB-c port. Instead of having a mess of cables to charge all my different devices. This also leaves my other usb ports on my wall charger open for anything like my battery pack, camera, or tablet.
I’m into cameras, and you gotta be if you’re trying to make some fancy CZcams videos, but there’s a time and place to bring your camera. When I’m taking trips where I get to explore a city, or go out into nature, I bring my Sony A7C, because it’s compact but is still a full-frame camera for higher detail, and it’s just a pretty camera to look at. The load out of lenses I chose are also portable, between a sharp 24mm and a versatile 28-70mm.

I have an AER day sling (I think is the day sling) and I have been struggling when I travel and want to take my sony camera and a few lenses. I don't use it or carry it all time when I travel but I want to start bringing it more. That peak design sling might be perfect.

The problem with ear buds is pressure on descent in a flight. Good ear buds seal the ear and ears cannot balance or equalize. I like the way you pack and using different pouches.

Neat that you carry the PD sling but it’s just too bulky same reason I opted out on Patagonia atom and went with ultralight black hole sling.

Hey thanks for suggesting the Synology BeeDrive. Now I have something else to consider. I alse like taking a DSLR on a trip but like to know that I can offload my data to an SSD. What I was planning to use was a OTG Hub that will allow my phone to facilitate transfers from the SD card to larger thumb drives. But I like how small the BeeDrive looks. Oh, and nice editing. You have a chill vibe but still very engaging.

If I am flying, yes, noise-cancelling headphones are a MUST HAVE… But… I have found that the earbud route is not what I prefer. First, they aren’t as good at noise cancelling as a full set of cans. And that is compared to a set of older Bohm B-76 cans! Second, people do not look at your ears to see if you’re engaged and just start talking to you. When you have a set of cans on your ears, they notice. So I tend to take my full cans…

I recently took my Canon R5 for a trip, and I'm thinking about leaving it behind next time.
It's just too clunky and cumbersome for off the cuff photos while traveling. Not only is there all that time and effort to get the settings right, but also there's a new threat of theft. If you're not using your phone -- you can just pocket it. But you can't pocket a 5,000 dollar camera, and you have to set it somewhere if you don't have all the straps. It's just another thing to worry about.
I try to keep my cellphone upgraded almost yearly to have access to the best camera tech, and my last trip, 80% of my photos were taken on my phone.
That's not to say the Canon R5 was a waste of a purchase. I get lots of use out of it in the office at home, and for product photography where I can control all the settings and I own the building where I can store all the equipment. But for travel, it's a real pita.
I like to think of myself as a photographer, but I'm never going to be the kind of techie who carries a bunch of camera equipment.

For a previous job as a photographer and filmmaker, I traveled 25 days a month for five years. What I've learned is to have redundancy, get rid of unnecessary weight and have a backup plan in case you are forced to check a bag (small puddle jumper planes require all rolled luggage to be checked as there are no overhead bins).
Currently, I use a ThinkTank Roller Derby as my carry-on roller. Combined with a Peak Design Large Camera Cube for storing my camera gear. I use a Peak Design 45L Travel Backpack and all the packing cubes, tech and wash pouches similar to what Jimmy mentioned in this video.
If I'm required to check-in the ThinkTank Roller, then I swap the contents between the backpack. It takes less than 10 seconds. Then I carry the camera gear in the backpack with me on the flight.

With the camera, can't you just send the photo to your phone from the camera? I can do that with my Fuji? I have definitely seen more people start using dedicated cameras more than just their phones, and I've been asked by family to get nice photos as I have a dedicated camera

IMHO 20L is a much better size for travel, that and a carry on with proper packing can last you months. I travel extensively for work in aviation often with two laptops work and mine with an ipad. One laptop goes in sleeve in carry on the other and iPad goes in 20l every day. Also in there is a down puffy, rain jacket, belroy toiletry pouch, sunglasses, etc. Less is more.

      @thepkeezy Před 6 měsíci

I bring a 40 liter Patagonia Black Hole bag as a “carry on” all the time. No one has ever told me anything. However, do not confuse that with the 2nd item that many airlines allow you-which is the “personal item”, that’s very different. 20 liters is about the max for a personal item, you could maybe get away with 30, but I don’t have that experience. I have experienced times where airlines were super strict and actually had to check people bringing the appropriate sized bags.
