- Here is my Yakima BaseLine Roof Rack with JetStream Crossbars. I wanted extra crossbar space for a project. This rack is very versatile, which promotes an excellent fit.

Your a good narrator
I appreciate that! There's no telling how many times I shot that or edited my cuts by covering them with B-roll! ;-) Thanks for visiting!
Looks great on the ride.
Thanks! Unfortunately, the project that compelled me to buy this rack is not going to work out. So, it appears I won't be using it as often as expected. I'll still do a long term update on it in a few months.
Good video! Nice VW.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
this helped me out in so many ways! thank you!!!
You're so welcome! Thanks for visiting.
All these racks..do they leave a mark or wear scrath where the footpads are tightened? I know just looking at my gti clear coat causes scratches.
Rob - I always wash the car and clean the foot pads before mounting the rack. The paint is also ceramic coated. I don't expect problems. If I see marring, I'll just buff it out. Thanks for visiting.
Hey I stumbled upon your channel while looking for roof rack systems and I gotta say thanks for all the great information! I enjoyed the comparison video too with the Rhino roof rack system. My only dilemma now is I don’t know which to pick lol. What would u recommend for a paddle board ?
If you don't have a need to carry cargo beyond the outer edges of the tower on the roof, then I'd prefer to use the flush bar of the Rhino Racks. I like Thule's "WingBar Edge," too. But it's more expensive. If I was starting new today, I'd probably go with Thule and buy matching locks for anything I add to the rack. Good Luck!
Have you considered permanently mounting a roof rack track system? That way instead of using the naked roof mounts, the roof rack towers would just mount to a track installed on the roof?
I considered it VERY briefly. I do not carry roof loads frequently enough to justify the expense or extra holes in my roof. ;-) Thanks for visiting.
Does the tower damage the paint of the car after long term use???
I think it does. It may be inevitable. I don't recall if my roof rack comparison video shows the difference between the feet and what I said about them. But the Rhino Rack pads are wider and wrap around and down the side of the roof a bit, even over the false "rain gutter." See a brief mention and a photo of the marring at czcams.com/video/5Bf5KM-3o6Y/video.html, if you're interested.
When the paint is marred, and I DO mean WHEN, it cannot be buffed completely because the rain gutter creates a high spot that is subject to having the buffer penetrate the paint. So, even a professional detailer will be cautious and may not be able to completely clean the area. I've even tried paint protective film under the pads. However, I removed the film because it deformed under the pressure of the clamping force from the rack and allowed moisture beneath.
I have started using my Yakima rack for some ham radio adventures. I've noticed that the pads are narrower and tend to stay much more on on side of the "gutter." Yes, the area may still get marred, but I think it will be far less prominent. I will follow-up with a video soon since I'm on the verge of announcing a few things regarding my antenna projects, which are based on the Yakima rack. Take care!
I stumbled upon your video today. I am mounting an ARB Awning to my F150 and I have to say, I am pissed that I did not see this sooner. I now have to return mounts and brackets, order these jetstream bars, which will replace my Yakima Corebars that my rack came with. The jetstream bars here will fit my current towers, so I only have to get th bars. My question is are the tbolts you have here, are they Yakima, made specifically for this bar, or did you just go to a hardware store and get tbolts washers and nuts? I'll do a video once I am done. My Yakima roof rack is permanently mounted. Thanks much.
Thanks for the comments! I'm using Yakima T-bolts. I got mine at etrailer: www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Yakima/Y8880184.html. BTW, see my DIY Awning at czcams.com/video/-qOmRwKnrNk/video.html. Take Care!
@@StealthGTI awesome..thank you for the quick response.
Ruff
HAHA! My southern friends say I have "no accent." Others recognize that I have some southern dialect with certain words, such as roof, pecan, hoof, and cement. Oddly enough, I put a cargo rack on my ruff, but hire a roofing company when my home needs new shingles. ;-) Thanks for visiting.
