Already play P5 Royal and Octopath Traveler 1-2, is amazing!!, i also wait for SMT5 and Metaphor Re too.
People seriously need to give some love to Rise of the Third Power. It's production values aren't that high, but it's story, characters, & world-building are superb! Along with a solid turn-based battle system.
I haven't played Rise of the Third Power but now I'll definitely check it out.
I remember when i quit playing Dragon Quest 11 for a month because i couldn't defeat Mordegon. When I was ready to get back to the game, I finally managed to beat him with Erik, who was also the only one alive, with very low hp.

So I didn’t play a lot of different JRPGs growing up but I’m diving into more as an adult. DQ 11 and Persona 5 are my default favorites because I haven’t played any of the others in the franchise. How about you?

No, Fire Emblem? My Top 3 would be Trails of Cold Steel + Reverie, Shin Megami Tensei V and FE Three Houses.
It should be in here because technically it is turn based but I wanted to save it for a top 10 tactical JRPG video coming soon. That's a solid top 3 though.
I agree with that ranking!! I only played FE Three houses just this year, after I already bought it a while ago. It instantly got one of my favourites, together with Trails, SMT V

Trails is my favorite series but it really is best (though not 100% necessary) to start with Trails in the Sky. That's the best way to get the whole story. But so long as you start at the first game in an arc you won't miss way too much.
It might not be necessary, but I do think it is important. I started with Cold Steel 1&2, but I was confused at some parts of the games. When I decided to play the Liberl and Crossbell games before starting Cold Steel 3, everything just made a lot more sense.
Just start with trails of Cold steel 1. You'll fall in love like the rest of us
played Octopath 1 and I did manage to complete the game with true final boss but I struggled and frustrated with random encounter because it's annoying sometime I go back to explored area and waste too much time with random encounter. I got octo 2 but these time I quit.
I'll be very honest, I will only recommend the Cold Steel games if you don't mind current era anime tropes, waifus and harem plot-lines. the story has its high and lows and most of the payoff comes from playing the older games and catching the references and connecting the points of the greater plot, so it's very hit or miss.
Also be prepared to invest a lot of time just with the Erebonia games. Trails games are known to be huge time sinks, more than the usual jrpg
After doing some more research I see a lot of people say similar things. Like Cold Steel is a solid entry point if you care about graphics but its WAY better to start at the beginning. I just wish the earlier games weren't only on PC.
I played trals of cold steel and love it I am playing could steel 4
The Legend of Heroes sounds good, but it's too much of a commitment. They're like 3 games minimum to finish a story arc and I'm pretty sure trails of cold steel is like 5 games.
Nah, donc worry, you can play Fc and Sc or Zero and Azure
I dont care how good it is if it's gacha I am not playing it. It's a whole nother level of greed when developers design their games to suck as much money as they can from the players. I know its not compulsory to complete the game but hiding contents behind a paywall especially if its based on RNG is predatory in nature and designed mostly for children who dont know better.

Yea, that can be a con playing mobile games. They focus so hard on releasing waifu after waifu the male cast gets overlooked.

At least female characters in HSR are more interesting to me, than in Genshin. 🙈 But I still agree that we need more male characters. At least we got aventurine recently 🥹❤️
Bit of feedback. You named thie video must play rpgs but you recommend something you yourself havent played. How is it a must play? You then ask for a like and subscribe and lament the views to likes. You cant call something a must play when you havent played it yourself as this video doesnt come from the heart.

Sea of stars is not a JRPG
as Hoyoverse is not a japanese company so Star Rail is not a J-rpg 💀
Legend of heroes series is only for people that love world building over anything else
and like to read like a LOT like a fucking TON LOT and don't mind anime cliches, excessive exposition and more often than not useless and waste of time dialogue (Like genshin impact but a bit better)
SMT know for depth story telling? hahahahahha no, that's not true at all, SMT IV is the exception and even so the story is not that depth but the story goes to place, is engaging, fun and do makes you question stuff lets say is deep enough.
DQ XI no complaints just overall superb Jrpg and is a classic, but many people hate the 3rd act (post game) I have no issues but I get the hate.
Like a Dragon or yakuza 7? Sure but is a bit too grindy but is challenging enough
Like a dragon infinity wealth seems to be a mix bag, some say is amazing, others that is a downgrade to the previous one and game is not as challenging as the first....hmm I really don't know, I haven't beat it yet so be mindful.
Persona 5/Royal going to be frank Royal is a joke, Vanilla is better if you want a challenge and is the harder version to platinum, secret boss is also more difficult so is up to you.
Bravely default 2, pretty much inferior to the 1st game and Second in almost every way.
