    These are beautiful! They look quite time consuming......I imagine it took you quite awhile to get all of those cupcakes decorated! Great tutorial, Lorelie!

    • @CakesWithLorelie
      @CakesWithLorelie  Před 6 lety +3

      Thanks. They can be Joann. Coloring the icing takes a bit of time and then bagging it all up. Once that is done it goes fairly quickly. The trick is to do one big one on each cupcake and then use fillers as I did on some of them. Also the big cactus on a cupcake is really enough. I thought about the little-potted ones that you can get at the store. They usually have a single one in a clay pot. Thank you for watching and commenting.

    Gorgeous! How long can these be frozen for? And once they are placed on the cakes, do they sweat and bleed colors?

    • @CakesWithLorelie
      @CakesWithLorelie  Před 5 lety +2

      The buttercream Cactus can be frozen for weeks. You just have to keep them well wrapped once they freeze. They don.t bleed, but they could sweat if taken from the freezer and then right into a very warm environment. Put them on the cake or cupcake and refrigerate them to prevent the sweating. Thanks Jennifer.

  • @catherinenalumansi2253

    Hi what was the butter cream recipe you used? Also can you freeze them for longer if you need to make them ahead of time? Will they soften if you freeze them longer?

    • @CakesWithLorelie
      @CakesWithLorelie  Před 2 lety

      IMBC Italian Meringue Buttercream. Yes you can freeze them for weeks even months. Airtight container. They will soften onve they are on the cake and at room temp yes.

    • @CakesWithLorelie
      @CakesWithLorelie  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes they are! Thanks so much for watching. Are you planning on piping some cactus soon? They are really fun to pipe and most are not difficult. Its the coloring of the buttercream that really helps to create the realism.

      @@CakesWithLorelie I am a Type A, OCD (lol), perfectionist... I am already practicing for a naked cake with succulents cupcakes, too... If the celebration party ever happens!!! Lol!!! They got married so we will party later as soon as it's totally safe!!! I know that I am about 2 years behind the fad but I just LOOOOOVE them!!! I am brand new to baking and piping (so the Tip numbers are invaluable) so this will be an awesome adventure!!! Thanks so much for responding!!! You are soooooooo talented and soooooooo generous to let us all be "in on it" - your tips and tricks... You have saved me a lot of frustration and wasted Buttercream!!! Thanks again!!! Stay safe!!! Lorelie can you tell me what colors you use in your buttercream. I am going to make these for a get together on the 7th of November and I may need to order the colors off amazon. Thank you and as always....BEAUTIFUL

    • @CakesWithLorelie
      @CakesWithLorelie  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Beth. Sure. I used Wilton paste food colors. Moss green mixed with a small amount of black to deepen it. In some cases red is also striped into the bag. The yellow is Buttercup yellow, not bright yellow. You could make that yellow though with a regular yellow mixed with a touch of brown I believe.The purpley grey-violet Is violet mixed with a tiny amount of black. Sometimes it's best to not mix the colors completely as they mix on their own in the bag and create more realism. For instance, the green can also be put into a bag that had some of the yellow already in it. Some of these are a mix of deep purple (Violet) and moss green striped. The dusty Rose is made with pink and brown. Go light with the pink and then add a touch of brown. I LOVE that color. I love all of these colors. Have fun and if you have more questions Beth feel free.

      Beth just looked at my notes. The yellow is called goldenrod, the dusty rose is red and brown, the greyish lilac is violet with a touch of black and a touch of white. I think it's in the video as well.
