@@PaulGoodeK good for you Paul. If you havent seen him before you are in for a treat. Get up close if you can. Im seeing him in Cork Ireland next January. I have the ticket already as he sells out very quickly. I think it will be about my 10th or 11th time.
I can never listen to his songs just once. I get them playing over and over and never get tired of them. Got to see him several times at McCabe's guitar shop over the years.
BTW, Jim, I can't say enough about Ashland Coffee & Tea, the listening room where I video'd this. You can hear a train passing through in the background because no one talks during the performances. The place is a real treasure.
Paul Goode I'd love to see the place--and thanks a million for recording the show and putting the songs up. Greatly appreciated. I'll bet you could hear a pin drop when Chris played this, based on my experiences at his concerts. Very few talk when Chris plays. The guy is quite simply on another level.
My pleasure! The place doesn't look like much -- there may not even be an outside sign. But magic happens! Incidentally, I used iPhone5 MoviePro app zoomed, a mini-tripod, and a pyramid built of three books that happened to be available.
Last night Chris Smither played at Johnson Hall in Gardiner. I gave him frontsies in the bathroom line, and he played this song as an encore. I figure we're even.
Creativity, artistry: take an old standard, run it through your own interpretive filters and, voila! a great performance for us all, in the style of the old school. Brownie did this, his own song, at a bit faster tempo but CS's version is just fine. Bravo.
Saw him performing years ago in Seattle- didn't know his secret was the open D tuning until I saw him doing it. One of the greats! Had the pleasure of meetong him in Canada on a couple of occasions- I am still in love with the man and his music.
There is no show like a Chris Smither show.
I get to see him next month!

This is my video, so I've been close. Love West Cork! I spent a week in Schull once. Do you ever get up to Westport?
@@PaulGoodeK Wow Paul you were close!! Brilliant video! Thank you for posting. Yes I have been to Westport a few times. Beautiful town.
What a great version of an absolute classic. Chapeau C.S.

His live album from McCabe’s is terrific.
Just a brilliant version.
Other than this being one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard, there ain't no words for this.
No argument from me. All the more amazing when you consider that this song has been done to death. Chris saved it for last, too.

In my experience Paul, you can hear a pin drop at many points in Chris' concerts. Everyone pays attention; he commands it naturally.
I just keep watching his fingers. Such fluidity it looks like he may not even be touching the strings
I recently saw him up close (15 feet) live playing this song. He is just as smooth up close - a real master.
holy moly! i'm tuning my guiar to open d

Such a deal!

love it
Having listened to this beauty, you might be primed to go find Leo Kottke doing "Corrina Corrina."
I'l do it! Thanks for the recommendation.
I watched to Leo K's 1998 performance -- superb, and I can see why Chris Smither singing "Sitting" called it mind.
and listen to King Biscuit Boy from Hamilton Canada with Crowbar- wonderful cover of Corinna Corinna,
