- Join me as I metal detect Huntington Beach, California. I find Gold and Silver after the July 4th celebrations on the beach. I find a lot of coins, a gold ring, a silver ring, a silver bracelet, a silver iphone 11 and a T-Mobile Hot Spot.

I love these beach episodes. There's a guy who covers Santa Cruz beaches and he found a solid gold pocket watch near the pier there right where I used to stand in the surf whenever I went there. He had to dig over a foot down to get it. That's crazy. I stood in that exact spot on and off for almost 8 years and right below me was a freakin solid gold pocket watch waiting for someone to find it.
Those the fun things we get to find with a detector. I have found a lot of gold over the past 30+ years. Thank you! 👍😎

Some good finds good luck. Silver bracelet just needs a little jump ring in order to connected together. The silver ring with black stone is a black onyx semi-precious Stone.

I just got back out metal detecting on the beach the other day! I live on Oahu... Waiting for the travel restrictions to ease up again so the tourists get back out on the beach LOL!

For an inexpensive UV light to test rubies, Harbor Freight has a small UV/black light flashlight. Works great, the rubies do fluoresce quite well with it.

And FYI cuz I know that you find stuff that is likely very very old, look at all of your pennies. There's a couple you can retire from if you run across them. Like the 1943 copper penny. 1944 steal penny. And I think that it's a 1958 D mint that I saw the other day is selling for around a million dollars. 😂

Thank you, yes of course I hunt the low tides. Tides actually determine my detecting schedule. But if you think the best stuff is found in the wet, I will remind you that 70% of the people who visit the beach do not enter the water.

I have been detecting these beaches for a long time so I am very familiar with the environment and it's elements so all I can do is pay attention. I do carry POM hot sauce just in case. Lol! Thank you!

I noticed tire tracks in the sand...are you concerned about these sand machines that clean up the beaches?
Most of the tire marks you see are from Life Guard Toyota pick ups, but yes - the surf rakes steal a lot of great stuff. At the same time the heavy stuff sinks deeper, Thank you 🤙

Another great video Jim. You always get gold. I'm pulling for you each video. There's a few things on my mind. One thing, I'm going to write my congressman and suggest he write a bill to make the mint stop making pennies. The U.S. could save a lot of money. I know the pull tops will never go away, but can you imagine metal detecting with no pull tabs or zinc pennies? Also, I went to the beach Sunday, and found 31 crown type bottle caps, add those to the 41 I found a week ago, at the beach, so that makes 72 bottle caps without finding a gold ring. So, with those numbers I should find a gold ring next time out? Anyways I'll keep you posted on the bottle cap finds. I've been hunting Santa Monica beach, so probably not that good a beach for gold? Maybe next Monday I'll try for the gold again, but not sure which beach I should try? Anyways, good luck out there, and I love your videos, and looking forward to tomorrow, it's "Tutorial Tuesday".
Hi Harry, Yes you are do for gold, but the game I play is I have never dug 100 bottle caps without finding a Ring. (a ring of any type). Lol! Thank you! 👍😎 and remember I dig thousands of pieces of metal & foil trash before finding gold.

Are there rules you have to follow on the beach? You said you have to fill the holes you make, I assume cuz it's a tripping hazard. And if you get garbage, u have to dispose of it, I guess. Why do the guys in the trucks not like ppl who metal detect?
Only a few beach employees whose job it is to clean the beach do not like us because they find a lot of great stuff too. You got the basic rules down, fill your holes and take the trash you dig. Thank You 👍
what kind of headlamp you use? could you provide info on it, and the shoes you wear.
I just use the cheap light on Amazon, I will find the link. It has lasted for 5 years and rechargeable. Also, I go through a pair a beach shoes every other week. So I buy also on Amazon they are 6.99 and there are so many different brands, they are almost all the same.👍
Costume jewellery earring?
Do you keep a trash bag on you to toss stuff that gets sifted with the finds you keep? I'd honestly be too worried to just dump the detritus back without pissing off some beach cop for 'littering'.
We detectorists clean the beach really well, for most part. In Huntington beach there are trash cans near lifeguard towers so it is easy to unload my finds pouch of the trash. Thank you 🤙

I keep wondering why you scoop and throw it instead of scoop, check the hole and just sift it
I find it easier for me to toss it out of the hole first, then scoop and sift. Otherwise it would be a whole lot of sifting. Thank you!
Does your metal detector uses regular batteries or is USB charging? How long does it take to charge? How long does it last in one full charge?
Minelab Equinox uses USB, lasts a very long time like 12 hours or more, charges in about 2 hours if really low. Thank you 🤙
Where did you get the pull handle on your scoop?
CKG travel shaft and I added a Motus T Grip. Thank you! greenherontools dot com is where I buy the T grips from.
What's the name you use for the melted aluminum? Trying to tell my metal detecting group and can't remember.

What sand scoop pole set are you using?
I mainly use the CKG Tank Scoop with the one piece carbon fiber shaft, but in this video hunting the dry sand I used the lighter CKG Hex 9 + Handle and Travel shaft (2 piece)
Do you try to return stuff like phones?
Yes, always try to return lost phones. I love returns but it is so rare and difficult to track down an owner, I like the smart people that track their phones and catch me on the beach as it makes it so much easier to return.
What kind of detector do you use?
Minelab Equinox 800 is what I use, mainly. Thank you!

a Ruby is fluorescent and will glow under a black light!

On July 5th every year I see a bunch of new faces, this year was a little more than normal. As for a normal weekday there is always 4 or 5 in Huntington Beach on the weekends maybe 20+, but I am including Huntington Dog Beach, Huntington City Beach (pier) & Huntington State Beach so that is several miles of beach. Thank you!

Shame you don’t pick up trash as you hunt. I believe in cleaning up as I hunt. Also not sure if you fill in holes either. Leave the place better than you find it.
I do pick up a lot of trash on every beach I detect, though I cannot pick up every piece I see as that is all I would do. Clearly you are unfamiliar with my channel or you would not have left a comment like this. Thank you for trying to shame me! But try actually watching my videos before assuming something.

U can start scraping ,save ur junk its money I find all kinds of pull tabs zoo I save them for money.
all the bottle caps, pull tabs that I bring home are recycled. Most of the time I just toss the big stuff because I do not want to carry it around for hours, I can fill a trash bag quickly on the beach. But you are correct, scraping and recycling are the way to go, especially hate throwing money away.
I lost my chain at Huntington Beach my dad gave it to me and he’s no longer here it has an R on it for his first name

I did not find any chains with a R on it, so sorry for the loss. If you have a picture I would be happy to display it on my channel so if any other detectorist did find it to reach out.
