    • @TheThaiLife
      @TheThaiLife Před 5 měsíci +4

      That's an interesting decision, I can relate to liking the S5ii. I didn't do that because of the lens selection, the auto-focus is still quite a bit behind Sony although it's at least in a similar ballpark now. The only has a 33mp sensor vs the 24mp in the Lumix, which for me as a Hybrid shooter is helpful. But the S5ii's 6K video resolution is pretty cool. The A7IV has 7K downsampled which I thought wouldn't look as good but on side by side I like the way it looks more. However; the video formats and menu and just general friendliness of the Lumix for me still makes it tempting.

    I've gone from the A7iv and R6 ii to the S5ii. Don't need the advanced X video specs. The user experience, the menus, custom setup, af(almost on par with Sony), real time luts, Vlog, and the rest are fantastic. I prefer the Lumix out of the three. Can't go wrong with either of them but imo the S5ii is the overall best camera for hybrid shooting especially if you're into video. The S5ii(x) is Pannasonic's revolutionary Sony A7iii.

      Agreed!!! I'm surprised Nikon didn't release the Z6III last year. Obviously they had the Z8 launch so that might be why but the Z6II was a VERY minor update from the original Z6 so and obviously the Z8 is a massive step ahead so they need to filter some of that tech down the line. With full frame 4k60 and over 12fps they could blow away the A7IV in specs if they wanted

      So much times AF on S5 ruined some footage, despite I know I can't rely , but sometime for example in a crowd and I want to shoot someone walking on stage, and I can't have my hands on the lens (because I step up the camera using a t ripod ) over the crowd , and just af was so ... tilting. • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I have not personally experienced it but it's not a camera issue...it's because the S5IIX no longer has an anti aliasing filter. That filter has been removed from almost all cameras 24mp and more because AA filters can have a negative effect on sharpness and detail. So it's something new to Panasonic users because they have been used to lower resolution crop sensor cameras but most high resolution full frame cameras will also have this issue if they don't have an AA filter

    • @GODlikeTeaching
      @GODlikeTeaching Před 2 měsíci

      First of all thank you for making me build this
      I am also considering this option 20 40 60 mm is very nice starting range but that 3.5-5.6 is the only downside… will have to always check iso and the change in dof in kit it comes to 350$ so is a deal if buget is restricted at first… that for 6k mode 24-30fps, for 4k 60 you will have 1.5 crop, so it becomes 30 60 90mm, in this mode you will need a lens 11-20mm or something like this,
      In my mind i always think of this full frame mm (14 24 35 50 85mm)
      For sony ff i have 17-28 f2.8, 28-75 f2.8 70-300 f4.5-6.3 (at 275mm it stil has 5.6f so is like 1cm dof and 2mm 100% focus)
      Now for lumix s5iix
      On the cheap side in 4k apsc mode you have sigma apsc 18-50mm f2.8 (apsc 28-75mm) 550$,
      Summary:
      Option 1: 1lens 350$ in kit f3.5-5.6 (ff 20-40-60, apsc 30 60 90mm) this will get you started only, considering the rest of accessories we need to buy)
      Option 2: 3 lens 1550$
      (ff 6k 20-60 f3.5-5.3, apsc 4k 15-75mm F2.8
      Panasonic 20-60 f3.5-5.3 (30-90mm) 350$
      Sigma apsc 10-18 f2.8 (15-32mm) 650$
      Sigma apsc 18-50mm f2.8 (apsc 28-75mm) 550$
      Option 3: 2 lens 1800$ kit f2.8
      (ff 6k 16-70mm, aps-c 4k 24-95mm)
      Sigma 16-28 f2.8 900$
      Sigma 28-70 f2.8 900$
      Option 4: 2 lens 2700$ kit f2.8
      (ff 6k 14-70mm, aps-c 4k 21-95mm)

      Sigma 28-70 f2.8 (apsc 42-105mm) 900$
      Option 5: 5 (3+2optional) lens 4720$ (2020$+2700$ optional) kit f1.4
      (ff 6k 14-24-30-50-85, apsc 4k 21-36-45-75-127)

    I hate to resurrect this comment section, but I have a question. I current shoot on the Canon EOS R, but the recording limit, 4k crop, hit-or-miss AF, plus no 3rd party lenses makes me wanting to move to a new platform. I have rented the R6ii, A7iv, and the Lumix S5iix. I am still on the fence between Sony and Lumix. I do about a 70/30 split leaning towards video over photo and AF for objects (ex: pocket knives) is very important to me.
    My question is, if you were starting from scratch would you go Sony A7 iv or Lumix S5 iix?

    • @learningcameras
      @learningcameras  Před 3 měsíci

      It's a tough choice. In almost every way, the S5IIX is a better camera (the exception being autofocus) but Sony has more lenses, accessories, and is the easier bet in the long run since Panasonics system is newer. I fully expect Panasonic to commit to full frame, it's just that most of their current full frame cameras are gen 1 or gen 2 so they are behind. So if you don't mind taking a bit more risk and if perfect autofocus isn't crucial for what you do, I'd go Lumix

And if Panasonic wanted to go all out, it would be a stacked CMOS sensor with fast read speeds for very little rolling shutter. I do expect a Sony A7SIV in 2024 with a stacked cmos sensor but I highly doubt Sony will go open gate

      As long as your exposure is good, you shouldn't have an issue. I used filters. But remember, the autofocus system "sees" what you see so if the image is dark, what it sees is dark making it difficult to focus. Even with phase detection autofocus, I've noticed the AF algorithms on the S5II series are still very contrast dependent so if you take away contrast or light with filters, it will have more issues locking focus so things like mist filters that reduce contrast might also reduce autofocus performance

      The rolling shutter isn't good but it's on par with other cameras in this price point. This sensor is based on the Sony A7III and the Sony A7IV has worse rolling shutter because it went higher on MP without increasing scan speeds. To get better rolling shutter, you either need fast scan speeds or low megapixels. I find it amusing to see people here who can flit from one camera lens mount to another. Especially now that Panasonic offers a decent lens lineup.
      Remember, this is the FIRST updated phase detection AF camera from Panasonic and the first 2nd gen full frame camera..They still need to update their entire lineup which doesn't happen overnight. Well, full frame 4k60 isn't NEEDED by everyone. And this has the advantage of being significantly better for things like interviews, wedding ceremonies, or talking head like youtube videos. It's still usable in 4k60, it's just APSC. The S5 line from Panasonic is also a lower priced line than the R6II. The S5IIX adds a little cost because of the extra codecs but Canon doesn't offer those either. But I personally use 4k60 often as well so the R6II is a great option for that...at least until Panasonic releases a new S1 body which should have FF 4k60

      Lol, I'd take my S5 ii over the R6 ii any day.

      @@learningcameras I hear you, but the projects these types of cameras are used on slow motion is almost always needed. For tripod work cameras half this price are more than enough. Cropping for slow motion doesn’t work because your framing always changes when you switch between photo and video. I’ve tried this and it’s hell. The new S1H will be amazing for sure, but that’s another price category jump up compared to these cameras. I’m pretty sure the S5s could do 4k 60 full frame, what’s a good reason to leave it out? Huge miss from Panasonic.

      The sensor is not fast enough to record 4k 60 without a crop otherwise it would have it. We will see if Panasonic makes a faster reading sensor.
