    - Oud & Lute - King of Instruments -
The origin of the oud belongs to the ancient times and similar instruments were used by the Babylonian and ancient Egyptian. Until today, oud is played as the "king of instruments" in Arabic culture.
The oud found his way to Europe in medieval times and it became "lute". During the Renaissance the lute was also regarded as the "king of instruments".

Naochika, tenderness and sentimentality are waning in our hyper drive civilizations, the over compressed hard beat driven music that the majority of the population is fed by the music industry makes it difficult for them to appreciate music that requires thoughtful listening and touches the soul! Thank you for your part in keeping this reflective music alive!

I fell for oud and Arabic music when I was 19. This year I am 72.
You have the gift of leaping from culture to culture… I do too. I am a German American woman raised in Southern California. I met my first spiritual Arab Iraqi there in socal at the beach; Laguna Beach. 1971.

I've listened to Lumiere and I agree, it is fine art. I'm Hungarian and we become familiar with lute music in primary school, Tinódi Lantos Sebestyén was a famous poet in the 16th century who performed his poems with the lute. I will definitely come back to see the effects on my everyday life

I'm an amateur Oud player from Syria. I've come across your videos by chance and what a lovely chance it was!
I'm very surprised to see a Japanese man playing the Oud. I immediately went to listen to you playing the Bayati Maqam, which is a quintessential Arabic Maqam, and I'm not gonna hide it, it sounds different from when we play it. However, I'm not here to say you're doing anything wrong. On the contrary, I'm very curious to see how musicians from other cultural backgrounds might use this instrument, and you're doing a great job. Your music is very calming.
Looking forward to hearing more of it on all the Maqams.

    • @NaoSogabe
      @NaoSogabe  Před 10 měsíci

Even though it says Bayati on the title, I don't play the whole piece on this maqam. I change constantly from the maqam to European or Japanese tone system and return. As I said in this video, I don't play Arabic music, but I express my own music as a cosmopolitan.

Your information on the different string instruments is amazing. How did you ever learn about the dulcimer? As far as I know the dulcimer is only found in the Appalachian mountains in the USA. The sound of the lute and oud touch my heart and soul.

Hey, im a huge music nerd. My main instrument is the acoustic steel string guitar. But i can play many instruments, especially stringed instruments. I love your channel and what you are all about!
I found you through your video playing the oud. I really want to buy an oud and learn to master it since its one instrument that ive never played or even seen in person.
I just subscribed to your channel. Id like to see more of you discussing instruments. I love to learn how certain instruments are unique compared to the more common stringed instruments i am use to (e.g. guitar, banjo, dulcimer, ukulele, bass guitar) and the history of these instruments.
I came here to ask you a specific question that is sort of off topic... But still music related.... Are you familiar with the _"Japanese"_ video game series called Metal Gear Solid? Its targeted to Americans but it is very much Japanese in its development team and is spearheaded by a very unusual and controversial artist named Hideo Kojima. Anyways, the nusic in the entire series is absolutely amazing even if you dont care about video games at all. In particular when you play the oud it reminds me of a specific song/melody which is present throughout the 4th game in the main series. Metal Gear Solid 4. Its the nain theme melody that can be heard throughout the game in different ways.
I cant post links but if you search CZcams for the video with the title _"MGS4 Start Menu title screen in HD"_ The melody starts around 23 seconds in, i had to learn it by ear on my guitar. It would be really cool if you could comment your opinion on the song and tell me what instrument you think is being used to make that sound. Is it an oud? And maybe you could do a cover of the so g. But i know that is asking a lot from you. Lol. Any reply would be greatly appreciated as a new fan of your channel! Cheers, from the Appalachian mountains of Virginia! Keep on spreading joy through music!

I just subscribed recently when i listened to one of your songs on your channel, hearing your music talents on the electric guitar and bass guitar are super cool, but hearing your mastery of the Oud and Lute are amazing works of musical art, you are like a Samurai master that knows the way of music, Sensei Sogabe I look forward to hearing your work, to give me motivation to play music. I just recently got started on jazz guitar lessons on acoustic guitar and hopefully soon play jazz the alto Saxophone once more like I did in school, I may not have any musical talent but at lease I can try to understand music, hopefully be a good jazz player one day.

Thank you for watching my channel! In learning to play the instruments, try to communicate with the instrument. This means not just commanding the instrument, but listening to its feedback. In this way you will have a lot of fun while making music.

I think I understand, when I played saxophone years ago i was able to connect with it quickly, not just by using my hands to play the notes, but most importantly using my breath and was able to hear how it was singing to others. So i have to find out how to connect to my guitar differently, not just how it sings to others but how it sings to me, I have relearn music differently. Thanks you for your insight Sensei Sogabe. @@NaoSogabe
