    Nice exercise - If taking it to a wargame club or show you could always put a big German rail gun on it (they hid them in tunnels) - Set up the table for Anzio or Sevastapol and have the gun on another table at the back of the room then (keeping a straight face) insist that this is an important element in the game

    Great to see one for us railway modellers! I have not tried either of these tips, but how about using a 'Grouting gun' to accurately apply the 'Lukes modelling compound' and drop some food die in the mix, it will bring out the difference between the plaster and modelling compound to easily see which is which (that would be a great benefit in the video for the viewers)

    you did a lot of this the way I did my Dio. the foam and modeling compound and the carving of the plaster.. made it so much fun to get the details.

    For track ballast, I used would land scenic, pour if over, use 1” paintbrush to even it out into place, secure it with this mixture : 50% isopropyl alcohol (90%), with 25 % pva glue, 25% gloss acrylic medium. The research for the acrylic medium it secures the ballast, it gives flexibility if you move the layout around. I use a dropper and just drop it down, on top, it pulls itself into ballast. Btw used this to base my miniatures.

    Thank you Luke, I've been wondering about creating rockfaces using plaster so this has been a massive help! Much appreciated as always.

    Great video and nice to see you venturing into another realm of modelling.The rock faces on my layout were made from Das modelling clay mixed with a little PVA. I scribbled it with a junior hacksaw blade.

    I love building small dioramas to display trains. I used to build them for Digitrains, which is a model train shop. I'm loving your work very much.

    Very interesting video. I like that you show that getting the foam perfect etc. is just not necessary!

    Balls...
    of scrunched up tinfoil pressed onto the plaster really add texture to the rocks.

    Would be awesome if you could do a video on making fish tank backgrounds. Be sweet to see that type of design in terms of natural looking rocks but on a larger 4 ft wide by 2 ft tall.

    • @givman2004
      @givman2004 Před 6 lety

      @@GeekGamingScenics worried about materials getting wet in the tank. Mains things I am not sure on is coating it with some sort of sealant that would protect it from being submerged. That or fibreglass and painting but you can't work fibre like you can with plaster. Hate the stuff lol.

    One of my biggest problems, if it’s actually even a problem, is trying to make each step into the finished product. It’s really hard to do, maybe I have a mild case of ocd, never been tested...

    dont remember the name of the channel but some railway guy is using similar method but he is cutting everything with exacto knife. Just random cuts and stabs. looks very realistic.
