I’m not hating but a lot of people dislike him because of the whole tainted meat situation or he avoid Black fighters like Charlo or Andrade and also has a couple of controversial decisions like the first fight with GGG and the Lara fight and how that one judge had it a draw in the one sided Mayweather fight

He has been hanging out with a lot of Americans nowadays so he can’t always have a translator specially when hang out with friends. Man is amazing learning how to speak it after years of only listening to it.

Its scary to speak language you’re just learning. Wether you’re the p4p boxing champ, or an average joe - no one wants to embarrass themselves.
I've worked in many countries, including Mexico, and most non-English people would constantly apologise for their poor English, despite me telling them that their English was good and I had no problems understanding them. It actually became an annoyance that I always wanted to learn the local language, but the locals always wanted to practice their English on me lol.
There are very few people that aren't self-conscious when speaking a second language, and those that aren't usually lived in that language's country for a long time. I read the comments before watching the vid (who doesn't?), and expected half-baked phrases that Canelo has learned, but the guy can hold a meaningful conversation in English.
If the boxing doesn't work out, there's always a job for him in tourism!

This is the most I've ever heard Canelo speak English. I've always been a huge fan. Many people say that he doesn't need to speak English to appeal to people but I now feel I know more about Canelo than I ever did before. I can now feel and understand his personality. I know he isn't confident to speak English too much but he sounds great, and a lot better than if I tried to speak Spanish!
This is the 1st time I've seen Canelo doing an interview in English. Never been a fan, because somehow his statements changes when translated in English. Now I am a fan, this guy is really humble and sincere. True warriors do all the talking inside the ring. Filipino fan here who loves MEXICAN STYLE OF BOXING!

He feels comfortable.. most of the time ppl have time speaking a second language in front of other ppl specially crowds.
