I transcribed "Atlantis", and did arrangements for several of my bands. It's such an exciting piece with a form that resembles ragtime pieces, with its multiple strains. From the recording, I indicated "metal percussion" in the introduction - and for the first time, I'm able to see what Antonio Guilherme de Souza Franco was using. "Atlantis" is a landmark composition from the 1970s.
Another fantastic video. Mccoy Tyner and this group put out so much energy without sacrificing musicality. It's also instructive to look back at this video, and to think of how McCoy's playing evolved over the years since then. Thanks for making this available.

When people say McCoy played piano I clear my throat because more accurately he inhabited the piano. I feel the same way about Art Tatum, Bud Powell, Oscar Peterson, and Monk. It’s a deep spiritual vibe that goes beyond musical excellence. English vocabulary can’t adequately convey.
