    Can't believe that he didn't won an Oscar for Heat and at least didn't get nominated for Collateral and The Insider... he is an outstanding Director.

      +Neil Tomlinson he puts quality and style in every proyect he's in, unfortunately the last years he's criminally underrated by the people. My favorite director ever, by far.

      I think it’s because (as I learned years later) Heat is a remake of an earlier film. Similarly Beyoncé’s video clip was a remake so didn’t get the award (sorry Kanye). Even further, Mann seems to return to similar settings - see the diner scene in Thief. It’s strange.

    • @angriff69
      @angriff69 Před 4 lety +2

      @@mrdavidurquhart Hi David, yes it is a remake of a 1989 or 90 TV movie (check "L.A. Takedown" on web), BUT that doesn't count as that movie was also directed and made by Mann himself. He just re-elaborated the project and moved it from TV to Cinema

    this is my favorite movie and I've seen it too many times to count. I have two questions about it: When Eady is with Neil at the car rental thing (when she wants nothing to do with him) she says: when will you let me leave? Neil says: You want out there's the door. and she says: WILL YOU LET ME LEAVE LATER? What?! that makes no sense.
    Two. When Chris is after Charlene at Drucker's house, how can he escape the police car? They don't have a fuckin picture of the guy so they know what he looks like? That's ridiculous! If anyone can help me with one of these or both PLEASE DO

    • @The4LA2Baker0
      @The4LA2Baker0 Před 10 lety +3

      1) She was asking if she went with him, if she could still leave him later if she decided to. He said something along the lines of it would be different or harder, meaning he would have to make sure she didn't divulge his location to the authorities(what exactly that implies, who knows).
      2) I too think it is unlikely, but it is also possible. Just like the cop that was looking for a prison escapee, found him, but the escapee convinced the cop he was just a jogger, and the cop let him go(www.military.com/video/law-enforcement/police/escaped-prisoner-fools-police-officer/1778597648001/).
      You are right. They SHOULD have had a picture to ID Chris, but I guess they didn't.

    • @PetieZe

    • @JimmyJam1125

      The Brennan character is basically asking him that if I do go with you away and I'm unhappy with the relationship or situation you will allow me to leave in peace and in health. As far as that picture goes, the Kilmer character is a high-level criminal who doesn't have a lot of photos of him out there besides mugshots and their looks change a lot. This was a constantly changing and flowing investigation where is sergeant Rucker may not have just had a couple photos of the Kilmer character in his glove compartment. Cut his hair at legitimate ID and plates. Not completely unfeasible

  • @Penfish2k
    @Penfish2k Před 11 lety

    Moby is incorrect at 9:00. Al Pacino and Robert de Niro's character actually meet up 3 times, the first is in a cafe where they meet eachother face to face, talking about their similarities in life but draw out their differences as well, especially because their characters are on the both side of the law. The score in that scene was very minimal.

    Didn't he try the different look of Los Angels in "To Live and Die in LA"? Micheal Mann should have stuck to TV. I love these sycophants describing Mann....amazing..incredible...genius...inspirational...innovative. They make him sound like Cecil B. DeMille. Even Fallini wasn't Fallini. Of course they say this if the want to continue to work. They say this about every Film (insert name and title here) Mogul in Hollywood. This was a terrible dragged out film that glorify the violence the Hollywood loves to distance itself from. Except the loot. I looked forward to seeing DeNiro and Pacino on screen together for the first time.....but it was a complete letdown. A much better vehicle could of been found for these acting heavyweights
    Too bad because they have become caricatures of themselves. That ship sailed over 10 years ago. They couldn't do it today with them both old grumpy men. My opinion of course.
