Took some time to actually play the AV-8B Plus on War Thunder right after launch... I gotta say it's pretty fun. It lacks in a few areas, but it is not slouch at all. Having the AMRAAMS make the biggest difference for this plane. While sitting at 12.3 BR it makes it especially interesting.

Update: checked the update notes and in game no data link on the AN/APG-68(V)7 radar (the radar in the AV-8B Plus)… so use TWS and Hard Lock for FOX 3’s on the AV-8B... use that info accordingly lol cause I'm braindead
Fun fact- hoving in place in the AV-8B will auto-notch missiles
My dad actually flew the AV-8B+ in Iraq, Afghanistan, and some countries in Africa during the 2000's and 2010's. He provided CAS for the friendly troops that he was covering. He had 5 confirmed kills and even still has a video of one of his AGM-65L mavericks hitting a dude standing by a truck in Iraq. He also had to help track a sidewinder that accidently went off the rails of one of his wingmen, long story short they never found it.

As I don’t play War Thunder, the extent of my knowledge of this stuff is Plane shoot missile from far away. (Also, what is multi pathing)
Multipathing is a side-effect of radars where the radar locks onto the reflection of a target off the ground.... meaning basically if u fly close enough to the ground missile wont hit u cause radar is gonna pick up the reflection instead of you basically

Theoretically av8b+ can just climb to alt, ,turn on vtol and be basically invulnerable to fox 1 and fox 3 missiles
Need a solid backdrop like terrain though or normal radar still picks you out

TWS still pings the enemy RWR but it does not tell the RWR that it is being tracked (There are limits on the angle RWR can detect radar pings). The enemy knows you are there but not that you are locking him.

Hey man, love the content as an enlisted aviator in the Air Force, me and my boom operator buddies love seeing another service member playing this game like us. Can't wait for more content big dawg.
I'm late, but this is mainly a tip for anyone using the AV8 (or harrier if you're british).
In order to effectively flare later ir missiles (aim 9e and beyond), drop engine power, as the AV8 at full engine power remains a stronger heat signature than your flares. Radar guided missiles are still a simple turn away from the aircraft and drop chaff, as in my experience, the radar can lock the chaff, but as long as you're the closer thing, the missile will keep going for you.
getting to the amraams is a nightmare though the stock grind is insane.
Aim 120 at 12.3 is devious man, in a down tear these things are terrifying, most people aren't even expecting you.

I don't understand people saying fox 3s make the game skill-less. Before yea sure you could run radar missiles out of energy by cranking but now you actually have to defend missiles and you can't just be kind of close to the ground and be immune to any radar missile in game. Now more realistic tactics like flying high, cranking, notching are far more important so you actually have to learn to be good instead of just fly lower than the other guy and win.

Further education provided here: The 77 is bugged and getting a fix. Burn time is wrong and targeting is malfunctioning. Doesn't mean the 120 isn't better overall, but we have yet to get everything balanced right. A hopeful Russian main.

Playing against this with my mig 23 is terrifying. Unless I’m next to it it’s tough notching an AMRAAM.
I just finished spading the harrier even though I did put a talisman on it. The early grind on a down tier I would recommend taking rocket pods and ground pounding.. it’s not as bad stock grinding this compared to a 13.0 with two 9m and not chaff like the F15C.
even with the rocket pods the 9m’s and aim120’s being tier 4 mods really made the stock grind twice as long as i would have liked it

I urge you to reevaluate, there is a funny little thing you have to do to dodge amraams and fox 3 missiles, but this little harrier has the ability to insta notch all missiles by hovering, meaning you can just sit there and launch amraams at enemies while their missiles instantly lose lock

Fun fact if you hovered no one could hit you with Fox3
This thing is immune to fox 3’s.
If in a hover you’re essentially notching them, so you can fire at the enemy and as long as they’re not using fox 1 or 2’s you should be fine.

@@KilaWestGamingthe multipathing rework applies to phoenixes as well though. Problem is that a shit ton of planes get like 4 or even 6 fox3's which just uhh arent fun at all
duh multipathing affects them too but u cant just launch a phoenix point blank at 3KM's which makes AMRAAM's much scarier

To defeat amraam just turn 90 degrees and keep moving perpendicular against the missile and go down while dumping chaff, idk about warthunder amraam but you should NOT turn 180 against the missile
