- Here's a video combining a film I took in 1975 with a video I took in 2016. Both pieces drive the exact same route through the Whalley area of Surrey, BC. I've merged both videos side-by-side so the viewer can see the exact same place 40 years apart. Enjoy

I remember in Surrey riding my mini bike around on the 70s. Even king George and Fraser hiway were only 1 lane each way. Bush areas to ride in were everywhere from Whalley to Newton and Guildford. The good times. It's sad people came. Canada allowed in too many people.
In case anyone wonders, back in the 1970's our cars rode as smoothly as those we have now. None of the herky jerky starting and stopping as seen in the 1975 film!
Love this video. Thanks
There were a lot of Datsun 510s in that Aqua colour (or mustard also) and many Ford Granadas back then. I only moved to this region with my family in '79 and I think a lot had changed by then
My friends had several Datsun 510's back then too.
That's great, thanks for doing that. A lot of big cars back then and no SUVs, seems like more trees in today's version.
Me seeing Quatro Buildings and remembering my childhood living there
Wowwww....was taken back by how many more trees on KG now and how Fraser Hwy has changed location, lol. Great vids and cool to see them side by side like this :)
wow! very cool thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much for doing this! Very interesting / amusing!
You're very welcome! I enjoyed it very much.
amazing you thought of doing that...i grew up in royal heights (townline and scott) got married and lived just off the king george at 113 and roebuck...hometown used to be where canadian tire is and k-mart same spot...good years !!! thanks
My old house is in this video
Oh wow super cool
Very cool upload 💥 I enjoyed it.
This is really really cool, thanks so much for sharing! Gotta say, Vancouver in 1975 seems like a nicer place than Vancouver in 2016. But that's just my personal preference for smaller towns, less people etc.
The burbs were nice but the entire downtown/false creek area was a mess until Expo 86. And everything closed at 7, nothing was open on Sunday, there was no craft beer available and things weren't quite so much fun for minorities.
Also it was pretty much an ironclad requirement to have a car in the 1970s. Still the case in Surrey now but the skytrain really helped make Vancouver a decent place to live.
I wasn’t born yet , and I wasn’t in Canada yet and I also didn’t know anything about surrey . Interesting
Nice vid. Funny how the roads are the same but just repaved...
Soon they’ll have to do a video to compare 2016 surrey to 2026 Surrey! Once all transforms into a downtown
I plan on it.
Good job, wow what a change. I have been trying to find the exact location of the Bar X Motel, on the King George Highway near the Patullo Bridge. Could anyone please help me to locate it?
