The Daiwa Saltist 20 HC made me pay closer attention to Daiwa. And now, I have become a genuine fan. It's as if they heard me ask for a reel like this!!

I love this reel. I magged it and it casts like a dream. Diawa says they updated the saltist line with the 20H-B. However they discontinued this 20H-C reel. The only thing they can improve is to add a centrifigul cast control. I don't buy the "oh the level wind acts as a cast control" it dont. You can still get a good birs nest with it.

Ive been using the same pair of Daiwa reels for 28 years and both are still in great working order/condition. Although I must admit mine probably don't get as smashed about as yours do. Nice Vid Dave

Using a 20H-C and two 30H-C for gator hunting. They're great reels.

Great video Capt.! I'm a Quantum guy at heart...Love my Cabos and Bocas, but like you said and if I remember correctly, we spoke about this in your earlier video, that Daiwa is a true work horse...I love it. Slowly becoming a Daiwa guy..lol

Ok Captain Dave...been contemplating buying this reel for close to 2 years now to replace my old penn 940. You pushed me over the edge and I finally took the plunge. Can't wait to bottom fish with it. I really like the high retrieve and that you can take it out of free spool by turning the handle. I hope I am not disappointed but after watching your follow up vid I am confident that I won't be. Do you use mono on any of your saltist h-c's or strictly braid. I prefer bottom fishing with mono on my conventional setups.

Thanks Capt. Dave. for the compliment with my dog. It's my first GS...He's a handful, but there's nothing like coming home from a midnight shift getting greeted at the door from a raving lunatic...lol. Yeah, so far the Daiwa HC has been the bomb! Love it. Gonna have to pick me up a few more to upgrade my conventional reels.

      *****
I got all modern gear in the arsenal Dave...the only old school reel I still owned and used was the Penn 940 (sold it on eBay to help pay for the saltist h-c) I bought the 940 a few years back off ebay more for nostalgia because that is what I used growing up to snapper fish with out of port of Palm Beach. Tried drift fishing with it a few weeks ago and the gear ratio is just abysmal compared to my spinning gear. Doesn't matter much if your anchored up but if I'm drifting over reef with a bait on the bottom, a high gear ratio makes a big difference...can get more drops before I drift off the spot with a high speed retrieve...and get the fish up faster before the tax man gets 'em!

Something I have always meant to ask you, Do you hose your reels down with fresh water after each time out? Glad to see a follow up on the reels. I've been a Diawa guy for a long time also!!

+MrOnegesius Don't know. Never owned one. I believe a SALTIGA is a trolling reel. Want a surf caster get the Daiwa Millionaire surf fishing Mah Reel

I just bought a 7' Tiger Medium conventional rod rated 20-50 lbs test and can throw 3/4-6 oz for light/medium saltwater and medium/heavy freshwater (big Striper in Lake Murray, SC). I want to get the Daiwa Saltist but am not sure if I should get the 20 series or the 30 series. Which do you think I should get?

    • @suferwill808

If I can't land a fish with the line the 20HC holds, we don't need to catch it....and its happened. I have VIDEO of it on my channel!!!!!!!!

Try the Tatula 100hs and compare to your Curado. The TWS makes the difference :)

The Zillions with the TWS would be a top pick also...maybe even a JDM model with BLING!
