Engine is sure out in the open and easy to get at. Anymore the new combines have the engine really closed in, but I guess that makes them safer from fires.

I grew up on a family farm in S.W. North Dakota during the 60's and 70 's . During the 60's, we had a IH 151 , later a 403 .Neither looked as BAD ASS as this 503. Hydo. I can't stop watching the video of it going down the field. Thank you so much for bringing back fond memories of great way to grow up!

Nice looking old iron. I'll be looking for a 7-915 next year to run.

Biggest problem I could see with this old girl is part availability. Still pretty cool to still see it in the field.

Not had any issues so far. Plenty of other donor combines and can make alot of parts work from different models

My dad built the engine years ago, put a combine oil pan on it. But would be the same thing as 915. Separator is 915

Did it come from the factory with the DT414?

@@kurtlikesoldmilwaukee9087 No, I believe he has cannibalised a late 915 to get the engine, hydro and feeder house, to create this improved version. The DT414 wasn't avilable till after the 503 was out of production. We had both a 403 and later a 915, the 915 was a poor design as it always had cleaning fan and cylinder variable speed issues. His improvements gives him the advantages of both machines. I had similar thoughts to do likewise when I finally got fed up with the 915. But a 503 wasn't to be had so we went with a late 1660 and spent a bunch of money, instead.
