  • A jugalbandi of Hindustani raga Ahir Bhairav and Carnatic raga Chakravakam, the poignant tones of both styles convey beseeching devotion, separation, dejection.
This is part of a series of three Carnatic-Hindustani jugalbandi performances. “Dark clouds please bring down rains so heavy the Yamuna River gets flooded and Lord Krishna is unable to go away leaving his devotees feeling bereft”. The rendition in Hindustani raga Ahir Bhairav and Carnatic raga Chakravakam, set to Drut Teental, alternates between Hindi lyrics “Barso Meha Re Ghanghor” and its Kannada translation “Maleraya Baro Krupe Toro”.
This is a composition of the Late Prof. Dr. Veena Vishwaroop; the improvisations are done by vocalists Manas Vishwaroop, Hindustani, and Udaya Kiran, Carnatic, with Bol-Aalap, Bol-Baant, Laykari, Boltaan, Sargam and Taan. Translation into Kannada, of the original Hindi lyrics, was done extempore by Udaya Kiran. Percussion support on the Mridangam is by Swaminath Jayaraman and Anirudh Sharma on the Tabla, with Kartik Raman providing the base note on the Tanpura.
