In grounded, you feel small, and that you shrunk but not the world around you. But Smallland feels like a new dimension with bugs larger than normal, and the environment being random sizes at times. Some plants in Smalland are what they would appear like at normal hight to the player, while everything in grounded is still as big as it would normally be. Grounded is if you want to experience being shrunk and having to survive, Smalland is if you want to explore a new world of insects and plants.
In smallands its like you a sprite or gnome. In grounded your character feels small because they were once Big, but in smallands your character still feel small but you always been small so its nothing new.

I feel like Grounded is closer to Subnautica and Smalland is closer to Ark. Smalland needs a lot more development time before a full comparison can be made, though, imo.

The mutations in grounded make a HUGE difference. I hope small land gets lots of love
Smalland is not 75% complete. You can only get 1 of the 4 Clover Keys currently. Which says to me there is much more to come. Grounded is more Sci-Fi. Smalland is a grander fantasy adventure. The games, outside of being a tiny person, are two different games. Both are great in their own right. This comparison people keep making is a moot point really.
The map is mostly populated. They will either add a few more bosses that drop keys or could also have existing bosses drop them. Only time will tell but right now I believe we've seen the majority of what Smalland has to offer.
@@MediocreMilton I'm not sure, there are areas like the swimming pool that are clearly being developed but are totally inaccessible at this time. There's also the potential to add watercraft or flying craft and allowing players to travel to the islands you can see off the coast.
It'll be fun to watch it develop though.

@@asmongoldsmouth9839 Nostalgia doesn’t require a long time to go by in order to experience it. Just the absence of a fond event being reintroduced or recalled by memory at a later time could trigger nostalgia. Which can occur the next day, a month or a few years later.
Grounded had been in early access from 2020 and fully released in 2022. Depending when he or she had played it, then yeah viewing Grounded as a nostalgic game can be legitimate. Of course what you listed could be true as well.

First time viewer for your channel, Milton. This was an excellent and very informative video, well done. I did however wish to point out, that I had difficulty figuring out most of what you were saying at first, and it required lots of concentration and focus on my part to understand you. Thank God I remembered that CZcams provides us with the ability to slow down video speeds. You were much easier to understand when I put you at 75% speed. I still found some of your words would run into the next one without a pause or break, but changing the video speed definitely helped.

I think Smalland is a lot cooler with taming and riding plus the tree claiming. But Grounded has so many different weapons and cool mutations. If I had to choose I’d choose Smalland because I’ve played so much Grounded and I love Ark so I wanna take some bugs.
When you have played as much Grounded as you have, sure the combat is probably boring but for someone new? The combat is way better than you made it out to be. Having to learn timings on the bugs and the actual difficulty is so much fun and also extremely rewarding when you get the parries down. Small land combat feels like a slog and so far I haven't found it rewarding. One thing I noticed as well is Grounded actually makes you feel small, the ambiance just makes the game much scarier than it might look. Smalland lacks this in every way for me and it's nothing to do with early access, Grounded felt like this on day one. I do like the mounts in Smalland though and the ability to play with more friends is nice, it's just very far off right now. Different games imo, I get more og rpg vibes from Smalland and when I am done and dusted with Grounded I will still play it with friends.
W opinion but after mastering blocking in grounded every fight is boring

Grounded combat is horrible tf
Grounded combat is horrible, 0 skill expression you either play like the game horseshoes you to play or you cheese, there's 0 dodging involved, if you don't block you get hit no matter if the insect is 10 feet away as long as it has aggro on you they become heat seeking missiles, I haven't played small land but I've played plenty of survival games and grounded combat is one of THE worst I've ever experienced it honestly doesn't entice me to play the game more as I progress, I did 2 labs so far and I'm already thinking about quitting because combat just becomes a juggling act of attack block and die in one hit, It's one of the most on-rails survival game out there if can even be called survival, it has cool things like the scanner stuff and it has a pretty aesthetic going for it but there's not even any shortage whatsoever of food or water ever in the game so that goes out the window too, it's more of an annoyance than anything the hunger/thirst system on this game lol
The Coaltana is also a third type of tower defense in grounded now. It used to let you just collect the sword like a blueprint but now you must defend in an area you cannot build in with just yourself and what you know about sizzle to win. It also counts for unlocking the mutation Guard Dog, I did that mission first and unlocked it there before doing any of the mixers.

Smalland is closely resemblance Valheim in ways like building base, it's so satisfying. Combat can be challenging

Looking forward to getting Grounded in the future (Out of context that would sound a bit odd to say). I have Smalland, and I love it so much. Even thought it's early access I feel like there is so much to do. Lot's of weapons to get, armor to make, and materials to find to construct a base with. Building is so enjoyable, and upgrading to wood from leaves, and then to stone from wood feels so rewarding. It's a great game to play with friends as quite a few people can join at once. Really a gem of a game, I highly recommend Smalland. If Grounded is as fun as Smalland I will not be disappointed.
Grounded is probably the best experience I have ever had exploring in a game before. The genuine fear my boyfriend and I have had as we learn the terrain and explore new areas is terrifying. We have barely explored a fifth of the yard and im already sold on the exploration. You need to get it and try it once you get a chance. I've had for little over a week and its already one of my favorite games
you wrong about the underground exploration in small land, I found it by accident an entrance of a cave that leads you into a cluster of caves and the entire game map is a cave!!! It is the biggest cave I ve ever been in a game it is big as the entire game map!
Smalland is the basically the Euro jank version of Grounded. At least for me, it reminds me more of Euro RPGs like Outward than a typical survival game. Smalland is inherrently going to be forever less polished, but I imagine it'll make up for that with unique, fun new ideas. Basically, both, both are good.

Maybe it's the music but Smalland gives me very nostalgic vibes. Sort of reminds me of games like Kameo.
Honestly I feel lots of the developers always try to figure out the best ways to keep people playing their games but when they finally give us an update it’s either something we don’t need or want or it’s just nerfs that everyone gets mad at

@mamabudgieclipper2735 I agree. I find it annoying how all people do is complain just because things didn't go the way they want but the game isn't just for you. Your not entitled to make every decision with a game just because you want it to be a certain way. Things in grounded obviously got nerfed because the game creators did not intend to make certain things the way they were in the first place. People always make excuses when it's a pve game so it doesn't matter if things are overpowered. But honestly it does matter. It's basically like trying to say balancing doesn't matter. Just throw it all out the window. As it is most fights in grounded is trivia as it is and most people get upset about nerfing something that made fighting a joke. Like dang you can tell all these people just want the game to be very very easy.

They do listen. To the loudest set of players. Usually, the loudest are the minority. Players who are happy and content don't tend to comment or say "hey, I like your game." Instead, they are just playing it.
That's why you find this happening. You need to be sure to provide that feedback, so that the loudest group isn't the vocal minority.
It's the same reason so many things have tons of negative reviews, few positives. You sold a million units and have 5000 bad reviews. That seems like a lot when there are only a few hundred good ones. Until you consider the percentage of owners vs reviews.
90% of your playerbase hasn't complained. That's a good indication the game is good to me.
I remember beating the early version of the broodmother with my brother, the broodmother looked exactly like a normal wolf spider, but it was a little bit stronger. It was accompanied by two orb weavers and when it died instead of wolf spider chunks it turned into orb weaver chunks (im not talking about the items, but the legs and butt that rips off and you cant interact with it)

I prefer Small Land I just feel like you get more freedom to potter about setting your own goals doing what you want to. Grounded kind of has a path you have to follow to unlock things so although I thought it was a very impressive game it did make me feel a bit restricted compared.
Just here to say that there is a parry mechanic in smalland or is just me that was curious and found out by try to block perfect 😅.

There isn’t a lot about this video that’s actually correct about Small Lands and idk if it’s because the research wasn’t done or if there were a lot of changes made but it might be good to go back and add cliff notes to everything you criticized since not a lot of it is correct. Different foods give special bonuses, the game is available on all platforms, the story will take more than 30 hrs to complete guaranteed. Those are just a few things that were wrong at 5 minutes in.
You should see how much he hated on grounded over the years.
He let's his bias show way too much in his videos part of the reason why a lot of people prefer Jade.
Grounded doesn't really speak to me personally. I've watched Honey I Shrunk the Kids on VHS a lot as a kid, but Smalland is more up my alley (I really dug the setting of the movie "Epic"). I have played Smalland a lot on Steam Deck since it launched and really like it. Swimming /diving would be neat though 😄
Yes you should be able to swim, but only for a short time as you would be fishfood, if you stayed in the water too long.

I get why ppl want to compare Smalland to Grounded and that's fair, but almost isn't. Smalland is more like Valheim than Grounded, but it is it's own game. The great tree mechanic is like ziplines in Grounded and portals in Valheim. Can't wait to see where they take it.
What i do not like in smalland is there is no pause feature. I also think the nourishment meter drains way too fast. I am only in the starter zone, but my nourishment is at 10. As soon as I eat a mushroom, it barely does anything.

Yep, the pause came in today's update.
You need better food. You can get food that literally stops the meter from depleting for 15 minutes. That's half a default day cycle.
If you don't use the food more, you actually have very little to do in the game.
smalland is on ps5 ($26) on sale at launch. its got some bugs but its fun.
Smallland full release in December and is said it gots many plans for the future after its full release
“Likely experience a bad storm”…. It storms every 5-6 mins when I play, I can barely leave my base to explore because as soon as I do it starts to storm and I either have to turn back or quit to menu to “fast travel”.
Do we always need to think that competitive?? I look at both games separately and play both, enjoy both.
Many people watching this are doing so because they know they only have the time or money right now for one game of this type. "Play both" is not helpful.
This is my first time hearing of this game and it looks great. I’m currently playing grounded and absolutely loving it. I hope the scaling in this game is as good as grounded so that you’ll actually feel like you’re a tiny person in normal word

I'll say it. They are literally 2 different games only deemed similar by the "small or shrunk" appearance.
Grounded is an individual "survival game with mostly survival aspects such as hunger, thirst, & stamina with a very light temperature condition in two areas. Co-op is a pain even still. Mutations barely improved but were a cool concept. Building is frustrating yet possible. Combat is somewhat better with perfect blocking. Water is not an instant death. The story is decent and reminiscent of a popular movie. Upper yard and late game is severely rushed and just loaded with parkour and insects. There are many more but that's the idea.
Smalland with only being in EA for a week has many different positives and negatives. Character customization, mounts, weather, more insects, more bosses, and better co-op with up to 10 total players. Base building is much better, and your bases can be moved seamlessly on the great trees. Most buildings on the ground are used for just spawn points. Combat is better but needs improvement. There are foods and potions that add certain buffs. Also, there are many more, but that's the jist.
It all depends on whether you want a fully released (yet unpolished game) that has better backing and is more in line with survival OR a survival game that is less polished but has potential which is more akin to an MMO or Valheim style.

I've played both Grounded and Smalland and hands down - I LOVE smalland - but am not wild about grounded - they are two very different games. I think it really comes right down to what kind of game you enjoy and that will depend on the individual.
I am toward the start of Grounded, but I can see myself buying smalland after I do my first run through. One factor that would keep me going in these games is basebuilding and both games are pretty limited.

I certainly agree that need to add more to character stats and so on. While to maintain itself as different it should be more stats on armor pieces to give each one its own use. to make all craft able armors more usable. It does feel like the comfort system isn't really half complete. The hunger bar gives you a buff when its over a certain amount. Comfort should do the same.
I'd like to see armor balances better, Ironwing is awesome, but shouldn't give so much cold protection, Regal armor should have a better glide for distance, because the Ironwing suit is metal.
I'd also like to see a reason to use different sets, I went from padded straight to regal then to Ironwing, I had zero interest or use for any of the other armors.
Despite the appearance they are different enough to where they both feel unique, play both.
With the mount problem, i think they're combating the mount problem with adding them to grounded. I think you'll need to use them as a pet though. But you should be able to do it, with flying mounts like bees and maybe a ladybug mount.
The Grounded devs have repeatedly said there are no plans for mounts. Please link me clip or post from Obsidian mentioning mounts.

The only thing they've shown is the Gnat that helps build. I've not seen or heard anything about bees being a pet.

Grounded 2 should be like small lands.. have it take place in like a 2- acre forest.. we have one in our backyard it’s the shape of a rectangle and surrounded by fields on 3 sides.. idk why but I can see it being a grounded map. It’s has jungle theme with a bamboo forest. We got a lake, swamps, pine groves, a flower strip and everything back there !

I thought you wouldn't be playing any more early access games? I definitely still like grounded but think I burned myself out during early access. Smallland is amazing I wish it had voice acting though. I definitely like the ability to dodge and the more tactical combat system
Only played Smalland because the devs sent me a Steam Key.
Can tell you right now small land needs character stats…move it to more of an rpg…it’s big world and feels touch empty. Taming bugs is great deff keep moving down that route. Perhaps a water bug too at some point.

This has nothing to do with either game but honestly my favorite game for base building is Raft. Building your raft and expanding it actually has a purpose and is made possible as you progress and can make more items. When your raft is finally fully tricked-out with engines, fuel delivery lines, water pumps, reservoirs, auto sprinklers, farms and a full kitchen you feel good. It's not required that you fully trick everything out with all the different paints and stuff but the option is there if you want it.
I like first person more then third person, so I go for grounded.
While I dont like the comparison it was fair. Grounded only wins at this point for me because its a complete game. But if these games both released at the same time and you asked me I would say Smalland.
Yet because Grounded is complete, Smalland has the advantage of time for better development to possibly surpass Grounded in the long run.

One of the BEST building systems is Enshrouded. Not just the detail and control of building but also the benefits of building well and decorating heavily.
I prefer the fantasy setting of smalland to the sci fi setting of grounded. I also prefer the big focus on parkour and traversal with the wings, mounts and grappling hook... Considering its not been out nearly as long I'm excited to see what it does. So glad it's come to console too.
Grounded to me gives more thrill, it’s a survival game I like that. I have played both playing grounded on the hardest difficulty and alrdy finished smalland, I like grounded so much more.
So I've watched the video, and I knew Smalllands exist but never played, yet. It does look really good ngl. And I'd check it out for sure and perhaps do a play-through.
But I don't get alot of people here flaming one of these two games. Sure people have different opinions but just make it fair and compare both games with what you could get. Makes it much easier and enjoyable to read and also helps people alot better to decide.
Grounded and Smallland is the exact as Minecraft and Terraria. Both great games. And the community shouldn't compare but work as a big one
I prefer smallands, but I have a feeling that it's a case of oranges versus apples.
Something I haven't seen commented on is the sound, music, environmental noises. Grounded does well with sound and environmental stuff, Smalland also performs well there, but in terms of music Smalland absolutely crushes. The soundtrack is legitimately good and really adds to the immersion.
Grounded also has an amazing soundtrack…that also adds to the immersion

@@joganaround7630 Yeah but to be fair Smalland has a fully orchestrated ost, which I find surprising. Also, I can't remember if Grounded has this but little sounds like rocks crumbling when you go in caves.
I just start to play smallands, and i have complete grounded. I can't tell which one is better yet, but in my opinion i like grounded graphics cause smallands graphics look old it look like the elder scrolls oblivion character menu, ui, health bar look old.
Imagine being such a moron where low-poly graphics are an ungodly sight compared to a comparably more ugly game like Grounded.

They are both fun, Grounded is way larger as its a full game now. Smalland is amazing and the world is in many respects more interesting.. Buy both.
When most people are watching this video because they only have the intention or time or money to buy one of them, "buy both" isn't a very useful suggestion.
Of course falling is floaty, that's simple realistic at your small scale.

Is the Multiplayer for Smalllands better? (Drop-In / Drop-Out?). In my experience so far Grounded's Multiplayer is sadly hot garbage ... you cannot join a running game, there's alot of desyncs even in LAN that throws all players out of the game -_- that's really my only major gripe (and the last mission which is just ridicilous).
I’ve never had this problem. Plus grounded you can share the game with your friends and anyone can access it anytime
i can say for absolute certainty Smalland has better Multiplayer, me and my frends have over 16 hours of multiplayer play time and the only thing that weve ever noticed was the chests desyncing items being put into it there were no crashes or Ping Lag or other types of random desync like in Grounded, while Smalland does have ping to host i never noticed it actually causing any issues in the way Grounded you could get phantom hit by the bugs or buildings placing wrong or anything of that nature
0:20 It doesn't follow that because development of one game started before the other, that game didn't rip off any ideas. It looks to me like a lot of specific models e.g. turrets and bug species e.g. stinkbug were first added to Grounded and then Smalland ripped them off.
Grounded is now getting updates, so its getting even better

o ya in my oppinion smalland is allot better although some of my friends like grounded more because of the disney feel.
grounded is a good game its just not realy in my lane,what makes smalland so good is the wings on youre gear and the animals you can tame + i think the gear looks better aswel.
thing is whats in one game you dont have to add to the other because you dont want to make the games copys of eachother.

I like both games but I heavily disagree about grounded mutations. They make a huge difference to your builds and the biomes with environmental hazards. The mounts in small lands are present sure, but they don’t handle well and die super-quickly if you leave them alone for even a few minutes. It’s a good game, though they’re apples and oranges
