    HOLY COW how the hell does this video not have millions of views?! absolutely top notch in detailed production, hats off to you.
    1 thing that would have made this better would be if you added a little extra detail with the set up (what kinda size tubing and connecters the lead from the fuel sources and maybe what kind of fan and how you set that up) i know im sounding greedy after getting to see that entire build.

    Quick TIP: When drilling pipe after the initial centering hole, clamp down the vice with the bit still keying the work's position, because as you increase the size of the drill bit you are only contacting the work at the two highest points until the work moves a little and then it's only ONE. It WILL walk laterally at that point!
    I really appreciate your sharing! Your videos are extremely helpful resources! THANK YOU!

    Great series of videos! I just purchased the furnace plans this past week. The detail is impressive, lists every list piece with name and part number (HD/Lowes etc). Its a no-brainer, the time I saved with these plans more than makes up for the nominal cost. Thanks Brian, awesome furnace. I will be upgrading from my propane tank based furnace shortly.

    Beautiful video! The burner is great, very well thought out. I really liked how you did that slow pan shot with all the parts annotated. Good stuff. It's amazing how you can command the viewers attention by not saying a word. Your videos have a great style, similar to Diresta but your methods seem cleaner and much more planned out. I've been looking to upgrade my setup to oil. I'm on straight propane now. I want to try cast iron in the future and then on to my holy grail of cast steel. Once again, beautiful video. Thank you for the time and care you put into your channel. I'm sure this project took months of your time. Your work is greatly appreciated.

I feel that this version is waaaaay more controllable than most you see online, and I am thankful for Brian’s video and plans! The kind of people that thumbs down this expect this to be a $25-50 build, but it’s not. This is a professional burner that doesn’t take shortcuts, and that costs a little money.

    I really enjoyed watching your build.I built a foundry a few years ago. 8" x 1/4" wall steel pipe for bore with about 4" thick walls and floor. Portland and perlite. I started it up with propane to get it hot then switched over to a drip oil system. in the air inlet pipe. I controlled the oil feed with a simple 1/4" ball valve. air via a leaf blower. In short what I learned was you can drip oil in and it will burn clean and hot. but the more air you can push the hotter it will get. when done. there sometimes was a bit of oil in the bottom. Just cut the oil flow ,but not the air and it will burn out in a min or two. it melted alum and brass with no problem.

    Hello.
    Nice oil burner.
    Where can i found, please, the design for the turbulator?

  • @Demothesses
    @Demothesses Před 8 lety

    First, excellent build. I'm working on one of these for myself. Your turbulator is far easier than mine. I hope mine does half as well.
    Second, it looks to me a lot like you're mixing propane/air in a pressure line (just before nozzle). You'll likely get away with this for a while, but if that ever gets hot you could have a (small) bomb on your hands. If the nozzle ever gets clogged (I know that's not likely) you could find yourself pushing air into the propane tank or vice versa (big bomb). I'd recommend dumping the propane into the blower tube instead. You can get flashback that way, and you'll ALWAYS want that blower running, but the explosion wont be pressurized and the flame will cut out when it reaches the end of the propane line. One way or another I suspect you're safe with that steal housing around it, provided no clog. Hate to see all that work self destruct though.

    • @Grunblau
      @Grunblau Před 8 lety

      Good points. There are a couple things that make me like this design over dumping into the burner tube. Let's go from most dramatic to least... Tank explosion- The tank is designed to detect an increase in pressure and vent this to the outside. Also, if there is a sudden depressurization, the flow will be almost completely stopped. You would have to figure out a way to defeat this if you wanted to blow up a propane tank. Not to mention that the regulator is also in the way and has its own safety features. If I dumped propane into the tube, what keeps the same thing you fear from happening? If I dump into the tube, I have between 6 and 8 inches of mixed air and propane behind the turbulator that is ripe for ignition. I imagine backfires would be fairly common, not to mention igniting this column of gas every time you start the torch. Blah blah, blah.... Back to worrying about something else....

    Out of all the ones I've seen your is the most profession one I seen and I appreciate your precision. There is 1 other that I like just as much only because it looks easier to make and still looks pretty profession and cheap to build, but it don't look like it's built to last. How much would you say yours ran you in cost?

      +Gerardus Pino Good question, the cost of brass fasteners add up fast! Biggest single cost is the nozzle @ around $30 I think...

      Since I just bought a lot of this stuff, I'll chime in.
      Burner:
      Brass fittings: ~$80 at Lowes, not much better on Amazon.
      Iron nipples, tees, plugs & gauges, ball valve, needle valves: ~$140 on Amazon.
      Nozzle & fitting: $59.03 shipped from Patriot Supply
      Propane reg & hose: $20-30 anywhere
      fans/pumps/compressor/heaters: Whatever you can find on Craigslist or Walmart
      +stuff you forgot.
      Furnace:
      The trick is finding a place to personally pick up refractory. It's usually sold at about $1.10/lb, so 60 bucks a bag. If you ship it, it's like $50 each to ship. I welded up a steel "shell" from an old water heater. A lot of work, but it was free. You should start with a crucible size, then figure your refractory thickness, then find a container to accommodate that. The rest is up to you on if you want to build a cart or dolly or whatever and what kind of opening system you want to use. You'll need some tools - many can be handmade, but you'll want a shank at least - and you'll want to get some firebricks for general use. Don't forget your safety gear.
