That little speech about focus 4 minutes in is so relatable hah.
I recently became the full-time archivist for a small private organization's archives, after interning there off and on while in college. My experience working there was always me being on my own a lot, with a boss occassionally checking in/nearby to keep me somewhat focused. Except, now my boss has retired and I'm the only one down here at all! Which, as a novice archivist and somebody who has always had projects and someone around to keep me responsible, has made the last month very interesting lol.
I'm alone 90% of the day with no one on-sight to check in on what I'm doing and how much I'm doing, plus I also am just pretty inexperienced overall with managing an Archive and there hasn't been anyone really formally trained in this position for this organization in the last like 12 years.
Hopefully going to be taking some Archives courses soon though. Thank you for the video, it was really informative :D
Your experience sounds pretty similar to mine lol! Ive done a lot of learning and figuring things out on my own through the years. Fortunately we’ve hired more people / more are coming into the office these days so I am less alone now which I enjoy.
I'm considering getting my master's in history because I was thinking about becoming an archivist or working for a museum. Thank you so much for making this! It really has been helpful for making decisions and considering what it takes. This is definitely something I never considered in high school but I'm so glad I found this video!
This was brilliant video! Love how you unlock daily tasks and how it gives a much better view of work than descriptions told in school
thanks for stopping by!! i agree that seeing things in action is more helpful than what we're taught :)
love day/week in my life videos! always interested in seeing other full-time careers and how it's balanced with content creation
This is so cool to see! I’m working on my masters in Archives Management currently, it’s my first semester! 😊
Ty for making these videos! Im a high school student trying to figure out if being an Archivist is right for me. I like knowing what Im getting into before I do it, and your channel always motivates me to stick with this choice :D
hey!! loved your video. actually wanted to ask you something. I'm currently doing my bachelors in English and I heard if I follow up with a masters in history I can get to be an archivist. is that true ?
thank you for stopping by! a masters in history would be a good route. If you can get archives experience whilst studying that would be ideal. I have a master's degree in "applied history" which is also known as public history and worked in the university archives while studying!
As a beginning librarian, i love this!
I also love the Land Acknowledgement and support for Pacific Islanders Communities resources you include in the description
hi :) I was wondering what your education was like or what you'd recommend for majors if you want to become an archivist. is it possible to become an archivist with just a bachelor's or do you need a masters? tysm!!
I believe you can become an archivist with just a bachelor's degree! My biggest tip is to gain hands-on experience at an archives as having experience will set you apart from other job applicants. of course, having a master's degree and learning the theory and all that will beef up your resume, but I believe that experience is what matters most!
Is librarian and archivist same?
If not, What's difference ??
Plz reply Sheila ❣
Do you have to do social media work as an archivist? I find social media to be horrible for my mental health.
Yes and I agree on the mental health aspect. I’ve stopped doing any social media stuff since my workload got busier (which means our socials are pretty quiet). Thankfully my boss is now going to outsource social media to an assistant who specializes in websites/social media management 🙏🏼

Love it! Thanks for sharing! I find it so interesting to hear about the day to day of other careers. I wish I had seen more of that in high school so I could make more informed decisions about where I was heading.
Good for you with motivation on self-run projects. I get so demotivated working alone, and realize I thrive best when I'm working with people as much as possible. Education is a good fit for me in that respect.
Never thought about what it could have been like to have access to this type of content when I was choosing careers, would have certainly been helpful! And seeing your perspective about work environment is really eye-opening for me as someone who works alone most of the time!
