  • Manpower Minister Tan See Leng has cautioned the opposition against asking for data in Parliament that could be used to stoke vitriol and harm Singapore's social compact. He was responding to the Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh, who claimed that it's difficult to come up with alternative policies without access to official information. For instance, he said data was not shared during the 2021 debate on CECA, a free trade deal between India and Singapore.

So long as you r members of the Parliament ~ you should have equal access to data n information, irregardless of PAP or Opposition. This is ensure the rightful correctness role of the Opposition in our governmental system. (If PAP believes the role of Opposition in Singapore).
The security of these data n information can be applied equally n effectively amongst our elected officials irregardless of PAP or Opposition.
U r a elected servant of the people, equally as the Opposition. Your hinderance is against the wishes/rights of your people - Singaporeans.

For years, the PAP has been changing the goal posts in order to distract people and avoid providing critical data. It is evident that Mr. Tan is quite adept at talking down to others and claiming superior intellectual abilities in understanding matters. This is reminiscent of what LKY did, suggesting that Singaporeans were not capable of independent thinking and should simply follow the government's lead. It is surprising that people still fall for this type of democracy and continue to be misled.

Perhaps Tan See Ling should have spent time working in many MNCs where Singaporeans are marginalized for senior roles by the very people locals are being accused of being xenophobic against and by many of the PR's that are lumped in as 'locals'. What is the level of the 'jobs created'? Surely locals are educated, experienced and worldly enough now to reject all these low-level scraps that are being 'created'

As a member of parliament, you bear the responsibility of upholding democratic values and ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their political affiliation, have equal access to information and data. This is essential to maintain a proper balance of power between the ruling party and other elected representatives within our governmental system. It is imperative that the People's Action Party demonstrates a genuine commitment to respecting all voters and minority parties in Singapore by upholding fair elections and governance principles.
Furthermore, the security of information and data must be applied equally and effectively among all elected officials, without discrimination based on party affiliation. As an elected servant of the people, the government has a duty to ensure that representatives can access this information and must uphold the wishes and rights of all Singaporeans. Any hindrance to this principle is a disservice to the people and suggests a fear of revealing wrongdoing or mismanagement of power.
Therefore, it is crucial that you act with integrity and responsibility in carrying out your duties as a member of parliament. The PAP must demonstrate that it has nothing to hide and is willing to share data with all elected members of parliament in accordance with constitutional provisions. By doing so, you would demonstrate a commitment to democratic values and transparency, which would serve to enhance public trust in the government and the electoral process.

A reason why Singapore's state reserve is secret is because some of the money is being used by some high ranking government officials for their own private use. When PAP is at risk of losing their simple majority in Parliament to form a government, they'll quickly pass tax hike to recoup any deficit stolen by those corrupt officials. This is the real reason why the GST is increasing at a much faster pace. Singaporeans must demand more transparency and accountability.

In light of the challenges at hand and with a commitment to preserving their honourable legacy as the "Men in White," the following proposal outlines a framework that the PAP can embrace openly. By doing so, they can reaffirm their dedication to ethics and establish themselves as a trustworthy political party responsible for governing Singapore for years to come.
Introduction to The Merits of Asset Disclosure by Members of Parliament:
Asset disclosure plays a crucial role in fostering transparency, accountability, and public trust in the democratic process. Members of Parliament (MPs) hold positions of public responsibility and have a significant impact on policy-making and governance. As such, MPS need to disclose their assets to ensure the integrity of their actions and to mitigate conflicts of interest. So here outlines the clear merits of asset disclosure by MPs and emphasizes the benefits it brings to the legislative process and public perception.
    Promoting Transparency:
Asset disclosure by MPs enhances transparency by allowing the public to gain insight into the financial interests and potential conflicts of interest of their elected representatives. It provides a clear picture of an MP's financial position and any potential financial relationships that may influence their decision-making process. Transparency strengthens public trust and confidence in the legislative process, fostering a healthier democratic environment.
Preventing and Addressing Conflicts of Interest:
Asset disclosure enables the identification and prevention of conflicts of interest. By openly disclosing their assets, MPs can identify situations where their personal financial interests may clash with their public duties. This disclosure mechanism empowers MPs to take proactive steps to mitigate any conflicts, such as recusing themselves from relevant discussions or decisions. Ultimately, this practice helps ensure that the decision-making process is fair, impartial, and in the best interest of the public.
    Enhancing Accountability:
Asset disclosure acts as a powerful tool for holding MPs accountable. By making their financial interests public, MPs are subject to scrutiny from the media, civil society, and their constituents. This transparency serves as a deterrent to unethical or corrupt behaviour, as it creates an environment where MPs are more likely to act in the best interest of the public. Additionally, public disclosure of assets allows for effective monitoring and investigation of potential misconduct, ensuring that appropriate actions can be taken if necessary.
    Strengthening Public Confidence:
Asset disclosure by MPs helps to build and maintain public confidence in the political system. When MPs voluntarily disclose their assets, it demonstrates their commitment to openness and ethical behaviour. Such transparency dispels suspicions of hidden agendas or undue influence, reassuring the public that their representatives are acting in their best interest. By proactively engaging in asset disclosure, MPs can bridge the trust deficit between the people and their elected officials, fostering a positive relationship and reinforcing democratic values.
    Serving as a Role Model:
Asset disclosure sets an important example for other public officials, encouraging them to follow suit. When MPs lead by example and embrace asset disclosure as a fundamental principle of public service, it creates a domino effect that extends beyond the legislative sphere. This practice can inspire transparency reforms in other branches of government, further promoting integrity and accountability in public administration.
    Conclusion:
Asset disclosure by MPs is essential for maintaining the integrity of the legislative process and ensuring public trust in democratic institutions. The merits of asset disclosure, including transparency, conflict prevention, enhanced accountability, strengthened public confidence, and setting a positive example, cannot be overstated. By implementing and enforcing robust asset disclosure policies, we can foster a political environment that upholds ethical standards, promotes good governance, and serves the public's best interests.
I have full confidence in the PAP and its capacity to demonstrate courage by effectively addressing the doubts of sceptics. I am a staunch supporter of the party and firmly believe that they have the potential to accomplish this by wholeheartedly committing to transparency and fully embracing their responsibilities as public servants devoted to serving the nation and its people with utmost openness. It is high time to move away from the strategy of relying on political supremacy and instead prioritize sincerity, honesty, and genuine dedication to serving the public with full disclosure.

One way that Leong could have phrased his question is to ask how many of the jobs created for SG Citizens + PR is from the Foreigners changing to PR? This can change the scope of the debate to not breaking down based on SG Citizen + Naturalised + PR, but instead the amount of new jobs being given to Locals. Aside from that, I do think that another way the Opposition can look into the issue is asking based on the duration of Unemployment of locals. If the increase in employment is due to the newly naturalised Citizens and PR, this means that the local born Singaporeans is stuck in Unemployment for a longer period of time. Given such a sensitive topic where PSP could easily be mistaken as xenophobic and racist, NCMP Leong can learn to be more tactical in questioning to elicit the truth.

      @kengleetan63 Před rokem

Leong can even further questioned how many jobs goes to what NATIONALITIES, if they are foreigners and PR!

Pap gov is all about protecting bosses, especially SME bosses which are staunch PAP supporters. Why do we need workfare if not for SME bosses to underpay workers? PAP gov is in effect subsidizing SME bosses to make money on the backs of Sg low wage workers. FT and FW are brought in depress Sg workers’ wages and keep us hungry so we can’t challenge the PAP. Whose policies weaken our social compact?? Whose policies are attracting hot monies to our shores, making Sg the Asian laundromat for all shades of monies?? Whose policies is driving up inflation, driving up already sky high property and COE prices??

as a supporter of the govt, i don't see anything wrong with oppo MPs asking for the jobs data. you can refuse the request to disclose the data, but to anyhow suggest that there's malicious intent to undermine social compact or whatever just doesn't feel right. just tell it like it is: it is not to undermine social compact, why would oppos want to do that, but to make the govt look bad. that's what the govt thinks. these ppl always want to show that they're the good guys and the oppos are the bad guys. and i don't think singaporeans believe that.

Is he, similar to a certain scoundrel in a neighborly society, seeking to stroke racial narrative and seek war or conflict, just to achieve a little political gain?
