- In the 1960s, the US government built secret missile silos across the country to protect citizens against nuclear attack. They now serve as homes to the reclusive and gathering places to the adventurous. We put our boots on and went exploring.

My future wife and I spent several weekends going through the one near Moses Lake 30+ years ago. It looked just like the one in this video especially the hole in the dome roof. There was active farming around that one though.
It was facinating! I wish this video showed the floor of the dome room. It was made up of concrete blocks that I susepct held up a false floor and facilitated wiring, etc, below.
We could see things above ground that indicate there were other "rooms" but we couldn't find a way to get to them. The generator room was one of them.
Some coridors were filled with dirt blocking the way to other areas.

Somebody get Mike Rowe to tour these facilities. This girl should be doing "famous beaches" or "most expensive yachts". She seriously doesn't care one bit about these facilities, their history, or how they work.
On a sidenote, I find it ironic that an original 1960s hippie now owns a nuclear missile facility. Ha ha!

Whoa...full circle: I just did a dive inside a partially submerged nuclear missile silo, using a pair of Palladium Pampa Hi Originale boots for my drysuit (which work awesome, btw). I realize this video was posted 9 years ago, but it was still strange to run across it right after doing the dive.

Is it just me, or does the use of the past tense version of "would" annoy others? It must have been used for dramatic effect, as no missiles were launched from these silos. ."Would have " would be more appropriate. Otherwise, an interesting and informative piece.

Anyone else think it's a bad idea to live in a nuclear missile silo during a nuclear war. Most likely the Russian s or Chinese don't have up to date knowledge of which silos have been deactivated. They may send a nuke straight down the chimney if one of these places just to be safe
