Having been off the air since 1972 and just recently started again on CW only, I can appreciate the skill of both ops

My first QSO was on a Century 21. It was in a class for prospective Novices and I was 13 years old, so around 1988. My instructor sat next to me in the hallway outside of the classroom in the church basement where they had set it up. My hands were so sweaty I was slipping of the key and my pencil. The Century 21 was even in our textbook from ARRL "Now You're Talking," and I wanted one badly, but my Elmer and best friend's dad drove me to the Dayton Hamvention and bought me a FT-101ZD which I had for years before it broke down that I loved. Tnx for the walk through the memory. 73, Bill W8PEF

Slow is good. At my very best I passed the extra code exam in 2000 but I have never been comfortable at speeds above 10-15 wpm in real world QSOs. These days I almost never hear “slow code” and find it difficult to have CW contacts. Still I think CW is ham radio at its purest. I noticed an Elecraft KX3 in the upper right corner of the video. To me Elecraft is the Ten Tec of the 21st century ..... Expensive, classy and slightly ahead of the times. MikeinMinnesota N0WDM.

My code speed has crept up slowly over the years. I was a pirate in 1979 and only licensed in 1986. It takes a big push and a release of anxiety to send fast

Haven't used CW for quite some time being off air for many reasons. Thanks for sharing this perfect speed for me to work with. I'll definitely save and come back to it for more practice.

    Excellent.
Can all CW QSO’s on CZcams have this kind of audio quality, relaxed pace, and perfect match of speeds between operators, with all essential (and only essential) information exchanged, along with nice pleasantries?
Or is that too much to expect? So many others keep screaming through at 30 plus wpm. I wonder why they upload those here.
Sorry to ramble, but thanks Rich, for this as well as many other wonderful videos of yours here on HamRadioQRP channel.

BTW, made me look up the interesting history about how Fuquay Varina NC got its rather unique and distinctive name.
And St Martin and Sin Maarten always reminded me of the Caribbean. Nice to know we have one here in Louisiana USA.

Also interesting that it was your 50 watts against his 500 (!), same or similar equipment, same propagation conditions. Guess it all depends on the antenna and its location.

Test it in a known working dummy load and see if you still have high SWR, if not, it's your feedline and/or antenna.
