Me neither… I don’t get it either… it somehow feels personal. I bet AOC didn’t treat Whoopi like an icon or something, probably just treated her like a normal person and Whoopi immediately got the idea that AOC hated women who came before her.

Naw, Whoopi is wrong on this one. AOC literally praised and defended Pelosi while at the table on The View a couple years ago. She said even though they disagree, Pelosi was a great mentor. And this was at a time when Pelosi was buying into the media pitting them against each other.
I think once Whoopi has an opinion of you, it’s game over. Every time they talk about the progressive wing or AOC she ALWAYS makes the same point. It doesn’t matter how many times it’s been disproven.
AOC, when speaking publicly, bashes the US and anything she can because it gets the headlines. Remember, she is a 21st century politician. Praising all the women that came before her will not get her headlines on social media or MSM. She is smart in that sense, but why she will never win a major election across the country, only in hardcore blue areas.
Regardless if it’s a positive or negative opinion. Just think of the people Whoopi’s defended over the years, personal “friends” of hers, who came under scrutiny for having done something really bad. And yet they’re automatically immune from criticism in Whoopi’s eyes…
Pelosi wasn’t “buying” into the media. That doesn’t even make sense and the media is who was reporting on her what would she have to buy into?

I disagree. Whoopi is accurate. AOC stated that older generations didn't protect our environment and therefore our country. She targeted my generation (gen-x) and older generations. Then, when got backlash, she redirected the convo to what she appreciated about others that came before her. What BOTH Whoopi and Sunny are saying is true, but she did blame older generations for some things.

The defense budget isn't just for the defense of America it's for the defense of our allies and weaker nations around the world. We scream to protect Ukraine, Haiti, Iran and the list goes on and there's a price associated with it. We protect a lot of countries and we don't leave when we're done we keep a presence there.
As far as taxes go the more you make the more they tax the top 10% of earners pay 61% of federal taxes. And that's not including state, county and local taxes. I wouldn't want nobody squeezing more money out of me just because I make more.
As a Latin American, I would like to remember you that in the beginning of the last decade, Brazil, Argentina and Chile all had a woman president SIMULTANEOUSLY. And the three of them were progressive. Take that.

Ok I 100% agree with Sonnie and Joy in terms of what she said regarding AOC's policies, BUT we are not going to sit here and pretend that back in 2016 EVERYONE AT THAT TABLE (including Sonnie and Joy) didn't villify AOC and Bernie and all the other progressives who were fighting for those policy issues, calling them radical, extreme, to far left, divisive etc. and are STILL villifying her (whoope, Sarah, Alyssa). So no I'm not going to give any one of these women at this table any sort of credit for acknowledging progressive policy is incredibly popular and very much so needed when they worked just as hard to tear down those policies.

She is a visionary and incredibly smart of course she realizes women came before her but she’s moving us FORWARD, and part of that is not conforming to the status quo just because she’s a woman and WOC. I love Sara's points, but she always brings up how 40% of the country are "independents" so leaders need to appeal to moderates. I would just like to point out that there are many independents who are not moderate. For example, Bernie Sanders is technically an independent from Vermont, but I don't think anyone would describe him as a moderate in the U.S. I am technically an independent, but I wouldn't consider myself or my views as moderate. I think we should stop equating independent with moderate.

Whoopie's criticism about AOC is something that's been prevalent throughout the civil rights movements as well. You hear the elder statesmen and women say, to this new BLM leaders, " Hey you haven't invented the wheel. We've been doing this longer than you've been alive and you need to give us our props."

I don't think anyone of this generation believes that enough wasn't done in the past that _could_ have been achieved back then. That isn't the point. The point is that, despite the progression, there is still work to be done. The point is not to sit back and applaud ourselves for what came before if there's still so much left to do. This idea that AOC doesn't revere the women who came before her is a lie. They broke boundaries in their heyday yet they're still in power and aren't doing what they can to make the change they started years before. _That_ is the point.
But Whoopi is wrong - AOC regularly says she is standing on the shoulders of those that came before her. She does acknowledge them.

Hillary Clinton was picked to head the Presidentital run of a major political party while AOC was in college.
Women are attending college at higher rates then men. Have large representation in roles in the military. Have wide support in sports, and even have their own professional leagues.
All this time with proud dad's, brothers, and male friends cheering them on, and supporting them.
We need to stop and recognize this, and just smile at how far we have come.

I’m not trying to discriminate against anyone here, but the problem is that she needs to be more realistic about her plans. Yes, AOC has valid points on a number of things, but with the 50-50 senate along with the filibuster, the things that she wants to pass in the senate are extremely hard. If I were AOC, I would use my voice to campaign for Biden to boost his approval rating, which will help Democrats in the long run. She doesn’t seem to fully support Biden when it comes to his presidency. I’m very worried about the midterm election and I want AOC and Bernie to use their voice to campaign for Biden and critical candidates who are in swing states. I’m sure a lot of young people will turn out if both of them come to their states.
Biden's approval rating is at an all-time low. And it is there because he would rather have the good old boys happy by his side than the black organizers who literally raise his campaign from the dead. Black people and the middle class are struggling and he can't think of a way to give them a tangible break after they put him there because it would cross his good old boy friends. Biden is the only one standing in the way of filibuster he could been made changes. The thought process that the Republicans we won't get rid of it when they get the chance is so dumb I don't know what to call it. If Aoc or Bernie stepped it here and started defending his lack of action for people suffering the only thing that would happen is their approval ratings would go down. They are doing their best by not formally calling him out but the only thing standing in the way of progress is the filibusters. Meanwhile, women's rights are being stripped, gay rights threatened, and interracial marriages have even come up, when do you believe is the time to pull the trigger? After midterms, and why should Bernie and AOC praise him when he is not aligned with the people that is what he is supposed to do.

Very much agree with what the conservative lady said. I am tired of the extremes on both sides. Most Americans are independent and see good and bad points on each side. I would like a president who reflects the ideologies/beliefs of most Americans. I also agree with what Sarah said. I am tired of hearing what needs to happen without first listing out established (data driven) and feasible strategies. It is fine to say that we must have x, y, and z. However, without a pathway that benefits most Americans, it is just words. Talk is cheap. If the current elected officials are unable to do the above, then maybe it is time to elect different individuals.

Because men have always had access. Women have had to fight for access/ representation. Pelosi is one of those women who made it possible for AOC to have access. AOC used that access to PROTEST Pelosi in her own office. Because she's an ungrateful child who never learned how to have an adult conversation. She could have had a respectful interaction with Pelosi. AOC made a terrible decision. It fed into the democratic circular firing squad that makes Republicans feel all warm inside. She made a display out of infighting. She went straight to protest instead of exhausting every other avenue first. That's what kids do. She had a temper tantrum.

I agree with Whoopi. AOC does acknowledges her peers and the women trailblazers that came before, but not enough in public. That is with the public microphone, such as campaigning, TV interviews, etc. Andrew Yang was very progressive with UBI (Universal Basic Income) and AOC was not 100% on board with that. AOC did not endorse Andrew Yang for NY Mayor or when Yang dropped out, the candidate that Yang endorsed.
