6 years sober. Life is great, it's not been a easy road but a rewarding one.
That's awesome :)
Yes,keep on keepin on, last one 4/21/91
@@tonyc223 That is awesome Tony.
Congrats to you! 8yrs this August for me. Life is good but I never forget where I was, as I am sure you don't either. The struggle is real and its sad it is still taboo- to either admit or talk about it. Too bad more people cant fully grasp how hard it really is to quit and change your life completely. The Universe will give us everything, as long as we put in the effort.
@@CaitlinWM Congratulations Caitlin you are an inspiration and thank you for your kindness 🙏. Keep up the incredible journey there is so much more to life still to be discovered.
I am 60 years old, I have been fighting alcoholism for 50 years! I have been sober for 6 months!
Wow....Incredible
62 days sober for me. Had the bottle in my hand but put it back last night. This episode is good timing for me.
I intend to go dry on May 1st myself. God help me lol
Good job
@@useresu301 I wish you the best. Do it today

Wow, congrats on the willpower to stay strong!
The problem is we encourage drinking too much in society. Downplay the negative consequences and bully and exclude those who don’t drink.
Yeah so true also psychologically too people don’t feel easy to talk to each other honestly until alcohol comes look at what we have become so if you don’t want to drink they regard you as kind of dishonesty and less social and less open
And this is why we convert to islam. No more alcohol, you drink, we cut your head. Simple.
Yes.. It's considered a social status
it is glamorized by society. Every celebration revolved around alcohol same with mourning.
July 10th will be two years sober. Never in a million years would I have imagined my life could get this good in two years. I got out of rehab with 1200$ to my name. I have saved 80k in 19 months as a locksmith. God is good. AA saved my life.
Congrats. That is awesome
The program is so special- worked for me and my husband, whom I met at a meeting. The Promises are real and continue everyday after 7+yrs for me. Good for you Kory! Keep coming back- the meetings and the fellowship there will always accept you, no matter what. You got this fam.
My brother took himself to rehab. After being dry for 2 years he also gave up the cigarettes. Has not drunk alcohol for over 10 years now. We are all so proud of him.
Your brother is a champion among men then so it's wonderful to see you've obviously become comfortable with singing his praises. Kudos to you as you come across as a great sibling! 🙌
But yeah, your brother has the willpower of mythic proportion 💯
@@avercher it was a hard journey. Especially for our mother.
I left a Teen Challenge rehab around 1980. I have never wanted even a cigarette since. It's just great to have a warm place to live with food and a bathroom. Addiction takes people to places they want to go, even living on the streets at times. Thank God for deliverance, amen.
How do you let him know that without putting a potential jinx in him / you know like putting a highlight on success can also seem like pointing out how much of a loser he use to be , has he accomplished more with his life than juts that now ans is able to fully enjoy moments of noticing and acknowledging him and giving that love and respect with no worry of him taking it wrong like a alcoholic and sabotage himself.
Any tips… or advice… ?
Congrats and good luck with life and new beginnings and progression with more levels of fun, health and opportunity for you and your family.

8 years sober. Mentally and emotionally the hardest thing I've ever done is put my life back together and gain trust from those I hurt around me for my actions. I will never be the same but at least now I can be productive again
5 months sober the only thing I like more than wine and scotch is success so I have to quit for good
Good on you and hold on to that feeling brother it keeps getting better! Stay focused on you. I've been sober over 2 years now and life is unbelievable

Congratulations maria. It's been a few years since my last drink. I don't miss it one bit
Lol
It's awesome to see all the comments about people getting sober and people staying sober. One day at a time.
As somebody who has lost a parent to alcoholism, I'd like to say well done and congratulations to all of you powerful savages that have or are still trying to ditch the drink, keep it up!
Alcohol has forsure been my kryptonite. As a European, it is so normalized in my family and friend circles to drink it on the daily and when you try to break free from this paradigm everyone else has a hard time accepting it. It's so normalized, that YOU seem like the crazy one trying to break free from the habit. Got drunk for the first time when I was 13 and only now at 29 have I been able to break out of that programming. I think I'll upload a vid on the topic
Subscribed to your channel, bro. I am from Europe (Lithuania), too. I perfectly understand everything you wrote here. I am on TSM now 4 days. Have ambiguous experience, but I MUST get through.
@@prehistoricboar4620 your message made my day! Thank you. I would love to talk more on the topic and share our experiences...will be making more videos on the topic. As irgi Lietuvis. Born in Canada tho!
I'm an american. There is not so much of a drinking culture for the entire society. But in certain age groups and demographics it's really bad. College and high school it's a huge problem too. It's a binge drinking culture. We drink to get drunk. That's the aim.
@@col.cottonhill6655 yea man I'm European but grew up in Toronto just north of you...and the culture is the same. It always fascinated me how we would drink to get drunk....not just a couple to celebrate, to be social, but to get pissed drunk
It is the same in my family the whole “irish” thing.
Also my kids lost there father at 45 to alcoholism. I quit drinking shortly after because it quickly could go wrong fast.
A little thing that can help a lot is to start recognising the differences between urges and needs. Your brain will tell you that you need to drink, but if you can identify that thought as an urge not a need, it gives you more power to fight it.
Been sober for 4 months

Thanks for talking about this terrible disease Pat. Very important work.
It is not a disease it is behavior. Try cancer. that's a real disease. Put a cancer patient & an alcoholic on a desert island & see which one is cured after 6 months.

@@JorgeGarciaAFI My husband has been sober going on 4 years. It was a process for him one day and one week and one month and one year are milestones. At the beginning of his journey is was hard cause it was social everyone drank around him and he hated being made fun of. I remember a friend said something to him and he started drinking in front of that friend just so shut him up. Then, little by little he did it. He was embarrassed to tell people he wasn't drinking anymore. So he would lie and say he was trying to lose weight. Then, one day can't remember when exactly he said "oh I don't drink". He no longer cares to drink. Then, there are some people who ask him "how did you stop drinking I could never do that" and he explains how he did and how better his life is cause of it. We are Hispanic and our culture loves to drink. When he sees people drunk or acting crazy he just shakes his head. I know you didn't ask me, but I felt I thought I would share a little bit. So if you have a rough day remember you can do it one day at a time.
@@truthwithes6690 thank you for sharing. It helps. Good for him. Let's stay strong 💪
Congratulations 👏
I've always had a beer problem. One of the ways I've dealt with it is to limit the amount of beer that's in my house. I no longer buy 12, 18 or 30 packs of beer because it'll be gone in one night. I can't stop drinking the moment I get that buzz. Depending on how strong the beer is, I even stay away from 6 packs. Part of it is just knowing yourself and not lying to yourself. I know for a fact I can't have large amounts of beer in my house because I'll drink it no matter what I tell myself.

I, like millions, owe my life to AA. Thank God & AA. (Anon)
I have over fifteen and a half years sober today. I was a blackout drinker every day for over twenty years. AA is the only thing that ever helped me stop and stay stopped.
She's 100% correct that you are unable to see the problem fully when you're in it, and you rationalize away the little parts that you can see as 'not a big deal' and that you have control. That's part of addiction's insidious nature. It's only after that you can look back and fully recognize the troubling behavior for what it was and how much it engulfed your life and controlled you.
TRUTH!
Beautifully stated! So sad to watch somebody binge drink alone outside and pretend because they want to make a fire and binge watch stupid CZcams 30 second clips or random music. It doesn’t matter because you don’t remember what you watched anyways.. annoying to watch somebody do that to themselves on purpose.. I sort of hope they have a major stomach ache and suffer some withdrawal consequences but that’s mean and won’t solve their problem. The Sinclair Method TSL is a good idea and it’s use should be encouraged.
Going back to Enquirer days...shame on the shamers and bullies. Late night mouthpieces have no class anymore. Thank you Patrick and Claudia. Our beautiful daughter/ wonderful loving mother of three lost her children and has been struggling for 10 years. I pray she finds her way. She is LOVED by so many.
Get her to call Teen Challenge if she doesn't try Claudia's method. They have great results with many, who live without cravings anymore.
Hit home! Dealing with a significant amount of over drinking family members. It’s ruined most of my family.

Claudia literally saved my life!
Aye this is perfect I'm actually 45 days sober off heavy drinking
I just started Naltrexone 3 weeks ago . I saw your Ted Talk and never thought it was available in TN . I not only found it available but at a clinic within 15 miles from my home. I’m just getting started but I know I will be sober at the end of this and am so grateful.
How is going?
I never knew who she was as I’m not much of a Hollywood follower. But one day I came across her Ted Talk and it changed my life. 14 months sober. Grateful for her!
Drinking is just not fun anymore. Hangovers are terrible. I am lucky in that I just don’t enjoy it. I feel bad for anyone who struggles to stop. Hope this video helps.
And the worst part is the police and legal battles
Being handcuffed and next paying thousands of dollars trying to avoid legal punishment !
@@MrMaziar58 I cannot imagine. That has to be really bad and beyond my understanding how anyone can get multiple DUI’s. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy!

Year after year I just watch them pass by like minutes. Time is so precious and I hope this helps me on my journey. Thank you sir for what you do. Helped me in business and in my personal life. You are amazing brotha
Almost 2 years sober thanks to 12 step program and AA meetings. Some cases clinical attention needed sure, but not all. 12 steps not outdated, still working daily with thousands of addicts worldwide. The difference here is that the program works for whoever WANTS IT ,not for everyone that need it.
Pat,I love how you listen people so intensely.........caring manner and are so open about talking different subjects.i love your channel
I believe the person must come to terms with whatever the pain is that has created the need ‘to escape’- forgive and move on - and accepting self and having forward vision❤️- prayer always
Finally an answer to the methods that were tried before, many many times but with no success. Missing key ingredient-the medication for the cravings! My question is why wasn’t this medicine info out there, offered as help for the alcoholic. It’s been used since the 90s?!! Is it because the people making the big bucks, 30-50 thousand a pop, with their failed programs won’t make their money?
Thank you for getting this info out. God bless you!
Love the content, this hits close to home. Losing a family member to cirrhosis as we speak. It's a sad way to live and die, I hope those that seek help receive it.

This video will help a ton of people.
For those of you that are saying it's "a choice" and it's no big deal I would like to tell you the story of my friend. She would get calls to her school from her mother and have to go home and take care of her mother when she was only in the second grade. She would go home and find her mother on the floor passed out. She would take care of her mother until she was a teenager and eventually her mother died. Whether it's a "choice" or not it devastates families and I am so glad that there is help for it other than just AA meetings. (which do help many people)
My mother also had a father who was an alcoholic and quit drinking when she was 16. By then it did cause problems within the family of course. It devastates the alcoholic and the family. Unless you have lived this first-hand you do not get it. I am appalled that people are responding to this video and saying it's just "a choice" and you can decide whether to drink or not. I am happy that your life is so perfect and you don't have anyone in your life that is addicted. I hope that your children don't grow up or any of your family members ever have to struggle with alcohol addiction. I truly mean that.

Years ago, when my brother was going into treatment for the 8th or 9th time, he was really down on himself. I told him that I knew it was harder for him than it was for other people but, that I thought he was very brave because even though he kept falling back into the mud, every time he fought like hell to pull himself out of it. Every time he made a sincere effort to pull himself out of it.

NIACIN THE REAL STORY is a book I recently purchased on audible simply wanting to learn about B vitamins. What I found reading/listening to this book is that niacin was used in the 1940s for alcoholics, in mental institutions and for anxiety and depression. If used in high doses, patients actually stopped craving alcohol and fully recovered. Patients walked out of mental institutions after weeks of niacin. This information of course has been suppressed. The guy who formed AA struggled for many years after giving up alcohol. He had severe depression, migraines, anxiety. He was willing to meet the doctor who was promoting niacin and sure enough after several weeks, the founder of AA was " cured". He no longer struggled and began implementing niacin and saw patients recover. Of course the government shut this down and that was the end of that. So sad that there is actual help yet it's being suppressed. Check out the book! Very fascinating and niacin is so inexpensive. I take 500 to 1,000 MG a day for circulation. Even though I don't drink or have that addiction I still wanted to share
What is the book? I have recently bought some Niacin and its kind of elusive. I am worried about liver damage, which I hear can happen.
@@ed8329 it's on audible. The book is titled 'Niacin the real story' . I take one or two Niacin daily if I can. Sometimes I simply don't make time to take it. But we definitely need b vitamins for our brain health
I take 500 MG once or twice a day after a meal.then i walk and enjoy the Niacin flush and walking assists in digestion as well

This could prolong my life by a lot. I will look into it more. I'm not a person who has incredible urges to drink but I love beer and if I drink one, whatever is left will be drank be it a 12 pack or a 15 pack or more. It would be nice to drink socially with friends and not have to leave early because I don't want to make an ass of myself.
I feel like drinking after watching this video and its 11 AM!
Pat there is a chapter in AA's big book called To Employers which looks at alcohol addiction from the perspective of employer/employee who is actively suffering, great read - I would love your thoughts on that subject.
This was excellent. Those of us that live with someone addicted have no clue how to help them.
You can't help someone who doesn't want to help themself.
True, but they can't help themselves if they don't know about this science-based method. AA is not the only way nor the most effective way in 2021. IMO, TSM is.
It does work and gives one time to work or the spiritual and psychological aspects. Also , gives you time to get your health back as that is of primary importance. Body...mind then spirit...
